while others have spoken about the shady surroundings, it proved pretty negligible in our experience as couples are not approached and the crowds are not overly boisterous. the hotel staff were very quick to respond to requests/concerns. in one instance where we pointed out that there was the smell of smoke on our floor, the staff very quickly found out the source of the smell (which came from a customer in a room) and informed us that it had been resolved. the hotel is also located very conveniently near wan chai mtr station, and there are supermarkets and eateries nearby. the offer for free wi-fi (via agoda) was also honoured by the hotel.

This hotel is quite decent for it's price in HK.
The room has reasonable decor- not the modern boutique style, more the neat, comfortable and adequately equipped type. The rooms are surprisingly decently sized (some rooms in HK are tiny- only just big enough for a double bed and only a foot around the sides)and appointed for the location, right in the middle of the HK Island city area.
They included 2 x 380ml bottles of water each day, there was no newspaper, they asked for a HKD$500, or was it 1000, deposit at check in, either via cash or credit card.
Staff rarely smiled, but they did their jobs.
I have no hesitation recommending it to any non family guests.
You might not like it if you're a family though, due to the half dozen or so strip clubs with mini skirted ladies of the night outside, and the numerous noisy bars and pubs which cater to tourists and expats.
I also don't recommend the buffet breakfast, due to the price. It's not too bad, with so so selection and nice comfortable dining in their Japanese hotel restauarant, but as a traveller, I've had better buffet breakfast for cheaper prices. I'd suggest skipping the higher "breakfast included" hotel price, and buy some 7-11 sandwiches or takeaway from a Subway around the corner.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
There's a hidden Subway restaurant around the corner from the Hotel. The hotel is only 150-200m from Wan Chai MTR- train station, you can catch a tram (locally known as "ding ding" due to the sound of the tram bell) and have a cheap sightseeing tour of HK Island.

A very nice hotel that I would definitely recommend. Even though the location is close to the red light district, that did not disturb the stay. A lot of places to have breakfast and dinner very close by.
The Hotel had an outdoor pool easily accessible.
Very clean, nice lobby and the superior room was more than adequate.
Good value for the money in HK!
Restaurant Tip:
Foo Lum restaurant just across the street. Good Chinese food!

Traveling again through Hong Kong I stayed at this hotel and I couldn't imagine better. The rooms are reasonable, the staff are very friendly and efficient, amenities are available and internet was free. I have stayed uncountable times at Wharney hotel and was always happy. I would stay there anytime again because it's location is simply perfect and there are plenty of activities within walking distance.

Typical HK business hotel you can expect with small rooms but every necessary features inside the room.
Nothing to wow about the facilities as well. But for the price for dollar value, the worth will come from its location 5-10 mins walk to MTRs to expo and ferry terminals.

i took the superior room. the room is compact like most hotel rooms in hong kong but not too tiny. comfortable with clean bed and bedding. the bathroom has good shower and bath facilities. except the toilet bowl on one side was too close to the wall which required one to sit slanting to one side. if i'd wamt to stay in hong kong rather than the kowloon side, i would still come back here next time since the location is great, right in the centre of hong kong, on the restaurant and bar street, and close to the business and shopping district.
Nightlife Tip:
Lockhart Road, where the hotel is situated, has lots of bars and restaurants so it's easy to walk back to the hotel after a night out.
