Great location
You are in Agra because you would like to see Taj Mahal. In the Oberoi Amarvilas you can see the monument fr.o.m. your room

We stayed only for one night. Everything was very good and our purpose with the stay was to see Taj Mahal. That was very good that it is possible to see Taj Mahal from the hotel.
The swimmingpool was very nice situated. The poolbar was also very good with fast service.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Very short distance to Taj Mahal.

Typical Oberoi Style, Class and Luxury
Great service above and beyond the call of duty
8
Typical Oberoi style and luxury. Our room had a view of the Taj Mahal alhtough the room overall was a little date. Renovation work to the some of the rooms on our floor was taking place during our stay but this was done dicreetly and without disturbance to us. As a frequent traveller I have become accustomed to internet being provided free of charge in most major hotels. The Oberoi still charges for internet access although it's not extortionate. In future it would be nice to see the Oberoi launch a loyalty programme.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Taj Mahal is right on the doorstep of the hotel and can be accessed via a 5 min walk (or a 2 min golf cart ride provided free of charge by the hotel). Watch out for the constant hassle and touts if you walk. Tickets (INR 750) can be bought from the hotel concierge which saves some of the hassle of queueing for them at the attraction.

The most beautiful hotel with the best service...
very near the Taj Mahal, service was beyond excellent, view of the Taj from the hotel was amazing
10
This was the best hotel experience my husband and i have had. It was near the Taj and the hotel was beautiful but what made our stay amazing was the excellent service we've received. We felt like royalty. Everything was done with no hassle, the tour guide for Taj, the tickets, our meals....everything. Everyone was very attentive. You go to the pool and they give you water, cold towels, lotion, towels...everything you will need without asking. I asked for masala chai and I was given a pot and some excellent pastries courtesy of the hotel. All the coffee and masala chai I ordered were all courtesy of the hotel. Our dinner at Esphahan was excellent! Our waiter gave the best recommendations and was always there to explain how the traditional indian meal was supposed to be eaten. He knew when to give us tidbits about india, the restaurants' name etc and when to leave us to enjoy our food. All this plus the beauty of the hotel and the Taj Mahal made our experience the best we've ever had. We will now always check for an Oberoi hotel when we travel overseas.

The hotel was wonderful. All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the room was gorgeous. The food in the hotel restaurant was delicious. The only downside was that the pool was closed and under construction. I would definitely stay there again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The hotel charges a lot for taxis and you are much better off getting an auto rickshaw to take you somewhere.
Also, India is famous for annoying men. Especially if you are traveling as a single female. They will do anything to sell you something or even try to take you out on a date, so be careful.

Nice Hotel can see the taj mahal from any room
8.7
they have nice pools and everything, but the pool was under maintenance! what a shame. but in general, it is a nice hotel. there is nothing much to see in agra, just taj mahal and agra fort really. so i wont blame the hotel itself. room service is not bad but the packed lunch is not as good as i thought. it is not cheap either. but anyway, it is a nice hotel and i do recommend you to stay if you want to stay in agra for a night to prepare for an early to the taj mahal the next day.
Hotel Feature Tip:
the pool should be quite nice, i didnt get to use it though...

Live in a palace in Agra~
beautiful & comfy hotels+ rooms, friendly staff
10
i didn't expect oberoi in taj to be this good!
why you should stay overnight in agra at oberoi:
- the room is simply amazing! we love the turqouise theme that donned most of the finishings (i am not sure if they change the color theme every now and then?) the bedding is very comfortable and the pillow menu is amazing~ the bathroom is clean and luxurious, though it could have been bigger. the toileteries are of high quality as well- organic forest essential brand- prob the l'ocitane of india!
- all the staff we encountered seemed sincerely helpful and friendly... i think they smiled from the bottom of their hearts, or maybe they hire really good actors? :p (from the front desk, to the waiters in restaurant). the butler service is great although we don't really use it. plus, the staff never asked for tips or hinted for it... trust me, staff in other hotels in india aren't like this! i stayed at taj mahal in mumbai and o boy, all the staff will hassle u for tips tips tips...
- the lobby design is pure grandeur... we get to drink this delicious welcome drinks at a lounge facing the beautiful taj mahal whilst checking in~
- amazing restaurants! too bad the buffet restaurant was being renovated when we're there (june 2012) but the restaurant next door called espahan offers delicious meals though at a slightly higher price.
- this hotel is walkable to taj mahal! this is great because taj mahal is most beautiful during sunrise~
*i will stay at oberoi agra again even if i have to pay an extra 100bucks... it's that good!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
If travelling during peak season in Agra (Sep-Dec), try to avoid visiting Taj Mahal during sunset. It will be packed with int'l and lots of local tourists!! Instead wake up early, enjoy the sunrise at 630am~ Then, have your brunch at the hotel before heading to Agra Fort. If u have additional time, you can swing by Baby Taj~~~ Other than these atrractions, there is nothing much to see in Agra because the city is very impoverished.
- Beware of hooligans & kids swarming around you for money (the best is to avoid eye contact and walk straight ahead... if you really want to help, save that money now; a decade later, go back to India when you're a billionaire, and build a school in Agra)
- Avoid locals who walk to you claiming they're free guides or college students learning English. Yes, they won't charge you but they'll pull you into their relatives' jewelleries' stores and "lock" you up in the stores until you buy something from them.

Amazing view of the Taj Mahal
Beautiful hotel, gorgeous views of the Taj, 10 mins walk/ 2 mins buggy ride away from the Taj entrance
9
The pool looked stunning on the pictures - unfortunately it was closed and the offer was to bus you to a nearby hotel, obviously this was no where near as nice as the pool at the Oberoi was meant to be. Really think that for the price of the hotel - even with Agoda's good prices - the pool should have been open or the price should have been less or a meal added to make up for this.
Also what is it with really expensive hotels charging for wifi when you can go to a 20 pound a night place and be given this service for free -you pay 5 star but then you have to pay for wifi?!

staying at the oberoi was a fantastic experience. waking up to the majestic taj was a treat, almost paralleled by the ease with which we could get there for our sunrise tour the next morning. the pool, food, staff, drink, decor was all top notch and i would highly recommend staying here. i already cant wait for my next visit.
