Great views over the countryside from the roof, lovely pool (but murky water), helpful staff.
Problems with hot water, overpriced.
Karni Fort is about 45km from Udaipur airport but, even with a good driver, the journey took 1.5 hours because of the condition of some of the roads and the overloaded sand lorries. The fort is deep in the countryside and you really see rural India getting there. If you want to relax in peace and quiet, this is ideal. There's little else to do. The grounds are well maintained and the view of the fort from the pool is impressive. We were the only guests and were upgraded to the honeymoon suite (the room with the round red bed!) which was tacky but fun with window seats and mirror fragments stuck on pillars. The shower didn't work so we were given the key to the next room and offered buckets of hot water if we wanted baths. We had a few powercuts and dinner was a bit uncomfortable in the empty dining room (hovering waiters) but portions were generous. The staff were very efficient dealing with room problems and onward transport but we thought the price was relatively high compared to similar hotels.
Hotel Feature Tip : Go up to the roof at sunset to watch the changing scenery.
