Location, pool, rooms (consistent with the same high standard found at other Oberoi hotels), staff The Oberoi Calcutta was both the starting and finishing location for our week long trip to India. The staff were both friendly and extremely helpful and on our arrival back in Calcutta from Varanasi (via Indian Railways), the knowledge that we would soon be back in the safe, serene oasis of calm was one of the few things that kept us going.
Shopping Tip : Very close to the Oxford Book store on Park St. One of the best in Calcutta - good value books and DVD's. Bought a great coffee table book on Calcutta.

LOcation is central and overall ambience is of a high standard There was a uniform failure of many of the staff to act on requests such as booking airport transfers, producing replacement keys (the system is overly sensitive), preparing bills etc I have stayed at this hotel many times in the past but on this occasion I was very disappointed with the failure of the hotel staff to act on guest requests. We almost missed out flight because the car we had requested 24 hours earlier had not been recored or booked by the front office staff - all very stressful and not what would be expected of this standard of hotel.
Hotel Feature Tip : Eat at the Baan Thai restaurant but ask for the table with the sunken floor!!!

Central, clean and quiet. A pleasant stay, hard to find any faults except it's mainly a business hotel rather than a tourist one which is not realy a fault.
Shopping Tip : Not far is Sudder Street which is handy for very cheap internet use.
