very pucker hotel,well turned out

Fine. As all Indian hotels the service is far too hands on... sometimes you just want to be given the key and offered help and not to have people jumping on you, carrying your bags shaking your hands, explaining how to open the fridge door etc. etc. etc.

THE BEST HOTEL EVEN IN THE WHOLE OF INDIA
the best, the Grand & best locations
10
It's on the edge of the town of Lynmouth, which is all thatch and rushing water, tea cakes, and postcards of Exmoor ponies. A water-powered funicular railway rocks up to Lynton, 150m above. Below, the sea roars in over spits of Bristol Channel pebbles.
The hotel has terraces, Alpine gables and the best view for miles, though it was a conservative old fuddy-duddy of a place before Martin Miller bought it and – at lightening speed – "Millerised" every surface.

I often stay at the Taj. It has a great 25m pool, one very good Italian restaurant, OK Chinese, South Indian, and Fusion restaurants. The rooms are not that good. Dark brown wood, eccentric electrics, small bathroom etc. However the staff are great, and very attentive. The Taj Coromandel has been the centre of Chennai society for a long time, but the baton is being passed now to more contemporary places, including the Hyatt, JW Marriott, and the opulent and somewhat over the top Sheraton. However, I put up with the eccentricities of the Taj because of the staff, who always look after me. Chennai is not a lovely city, it lacks any centre, just a conglomeration of various small hubs.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Marina, but frankly, not a lot.

Older hotel, once the best, but no longer.
7.3
Room was small for price and rather tired decor. Club lounge, high service levels but breakfast choice was limited. The hotel is a high charge (and given the staffing levels high cost) operation. Pool is great. New gym and steam room is also good. However, Hyatt and other international hotels are cheaper, have excellent service, and much newer in approach. Agoda is a good buy. Rack rates are ridiculous.
Restaurant Tip:
The Prego in the hotel is a good Italian restaurant. The Chinese and Indian equivalents are much less satisfactory.
