this is a small hotel in a good location, only a few minutes walk to bars etc. rooms are small but clean and the air conditioning was very good. the rooms probably were a bit dated but not bad in general for india. staff were helpful, although were really adamant about tips, and made no effort to tell us about breakfast arrangements.

The stay of this hotel was very bad. Rooms were very small. Waiters were cordial but in return always demand tips. Location was good if you are interested in shopping. Otherwise it can be a nightmare to stay in this hotel. Cleanliness was very poor. Toilet water was flowing towards the room. You might need to depend on your luck for hot water. They switched off the lift before 10 pm.

hotel is good for the people who wants to stay near Park Street & New market.Environment ,inside of the hotel is good but breakfast is very cheap and not for sufficient for an adult which is complementary with room service.Wifi ok.have some problems about gizzer.

The staff were helpful and booked a train ride to Varanasi. The room is small, but it was clean and had wifi and a fridge. It was also pretty quiet considering how busy the surroundings are.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Head up to the very impressive Hog Market near to the Sudder St. northwest of the hotel.

Great base in Kolkata

I stayed in the hotel for a week during the busy Durga Puja festival. The property is conveniently located to Sudder Street and Park Street (main Western traveller hang-outs) as well as the Park Street metro station. I had a problem with wifi on the first day. However the staff worked with me to successfully resolve that issue, and they also quickly handled all of my other requests for laundry, train tickets, etc. This is not the Four Seasons, but it is safe, clean and quiet for India.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:

Noisy and in need of repair

Hotel VIP Intercontinental is centrally located on Mirza Ghalib Rd. and close to both Sudder St. and Park St. which is great! However, Mirza Ghalib is not a pretty street and a very noisy and dirty one! Needless to say, it was hard to sleep at night with all the honking and people shouting on the streets. Then when all was calm in the middle of the night the stray dogs would start barking!
The hotel has the tiniest lobby but the attendants were friendly and quickly checked us in. The floors are arranged in a strange half floor configuration, so each floor actually has half a floor then you walk up a few flights of stairs to get to the second half of the floor. If you don't like walking they do have an ancient tiny elevator, but it does function. The bell boys were eager to help us with our luggage even though we told them we didn't need any help. Once in the room they stuck around for a while showing us how to use everything and just hung around until they finally asked for a tip!
Wifi is terrible, so don't expect it to work at all! Also, if you want your room cleaned you need to ask. We also had problems with the shower and toilet. Basically, you needed turn a combination of several knobs just to get the hot water to turn on, then the reverse to turn it off. This seemed perfectly ok to them and that it certainly did not need any fixing!
Also, the curtains are basically see through in the bathroom, so if you have a room facing the street everyone will see your silhouette!
