Rooms need updating.
The location was very good for sightseeing. The view of the Victoria Memorial from the room was amazing and unexpected. Staff were very friendly and helppful.

location is very good near to commercial area and surrounded by many business area. hoel a bit old and small room for 2 person. shampoo used are herbs and not suitable for international travellers need. a 4 star hotel ut did not display basic amenities and have to call to obtain. service level very low especially the housekeeping. asking for slippers but took 8hrs from morning call evening send. 5 calls to get a pair of slippers. food in restaurant was very low and not much choices. taste also not good. presentation not attractive and waittress very slow.

Not bad, though way overpriced
quiet oasis in the middle of chaos

unfortunately we visited calcutta during a busy period and had to pay way too much for this hotel. too, agoda hadn't passed our booking onto the hotel, so we were roomless when we went to checkin. luckily this was rectified and the hotel even upgraded us. it was the cold season and the a/c in the room proved way too cold for us. there was no way to raise the temperature. the hotel didnt supply enough hot water either, so it was difficult to have a bath. another thing we didnt like was the constant harrassment by staff coming to our room to do all kinds of menial tasks and then putting their hands out for tips. we soon got around this by using the do not disturb sign on our door most of the time :) the breakfast was good though a little drab. the indian menu was esp good, as were the lassi milk items. the lobby is the nicest part of the hotel, the rooms tended a bit jaded. same room decor since the 1960s. nonetheless as an arrival hotel it did what we had required, gave us a slow introduction to the chaos of india. the area is very busy, and later we moved to the more traveller friendly area of sudder street, just a 10 minute walk away - though a walk through tens of thousands of people i might add.
