Dreadful, dirty hotel with terrible service
Leaving the hotel was a great relief it was BAD!

the staff are rude, they try hard to be as unhelpful as possible, the hotel is extremely dirty and infested with mosquitos, flies and bed bugs. the restaurant is particularly dirty, the breakfast is disgusting and made us both sick. my advice would be don't stay here!!!£
Travel tip:
There are other better hotels in Madurai, don't stay here!

the property is under major renovation. the noise is unbearable from 9am to 6pm.......food is edible...this is my 2nd stay here and it has a long long way to identify itself and match with the quality of itc group of hotels.

best part of madurai city

Located in the plush business, and residential area, of Madurai, this Ex-TAJ hotel still retains it's charms and standards. The size of the hotel is impressive and the total premises is large. I enjoyed the evening walks and the morning gym ( free and complimentary) in the same hotel premises.
You can hire ( negotiate fiercely) for a rickshaw to visit the old city and see the Meenakshi temples and also more fiercely with the same chap if you have to go to the railway station which is also in the old city.
However considering the levels of cleanliness and the type o crowd which you see in the old city, I would gladly stay here again.
Hotel food is exclusive and the prices are exorbitant even by Mumbai standards, however there is not much of a choice of food in Madurai so stick to the hotel menu.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Meenakshi temple premises are now cleaned of beggars and hawkers so you can enjoy the visit. Keep at least 4 hours to spare since the temple complex is massive and it takes time. Mornings are crowded so post lunch ( evening visit) is more leisurely.
BTW> temples closes at 12 sharp and re-opens at 4pm. We had to return back once.

i would definitely recommend this hotel for someone who is looking out for neat and clean rooms with good service and very affordable . the bathroom supplies was of very good quality and branded . our only concern was some part of the hotel floor and other areas were under still renovation .

good location slightly away from city croud yet not too far off.

first the hotel is currently under renovation & part of it is closed. so even corridors are narrowed with little movement space. the room was too small for comfort & even lcd tv was just 20". food & breakfast was not worth writing about. the tarrifs are way too high for the amenities they are offering. in all stay away from it if you can.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
only thing worth visiting in madurai is meenakshi temple. must get a guide if you really want to experience the temple.
