Have read on the net about this place after I have paid for the room. Most of the reviews were negative, complaining about staff and noise, so I went in without too much expectation. My own experience turned out to be quite the opposite---a welcome surprise. I found the staff very attentive. Upon my arrival, the bell boy insisted on carrying my not-so-heavy duffle bag and diligently (if not a bit unnecessarily) explained all the workings of the furnishings. Next, another attendant came to deliver the bath robe and I thought to ask him about ironing. He took my suit away and 30 minutes later, they were all straightened out; all for a modest 35 rupees. The hotel has an interesting colonial heritage. The restaurant serves decent breakfast and meals. Waiters are helpful. The only dinner I had was tasty but pricy and the portion was small for the price. Now to the negatives. All minor ones but sufficiently annoying as to warrant mentioning. The phone by my bedside wasn't working initially. After the line was repaired, I found out the hardware was defective---it rings if there's an incoming call but when you lift the cradle, there's no sound. So I had to talk to my wife using the spare handset in the bathroom. She had to call three times. First time because the front desk gave me the hotel fax number instead of the phone number! And a second time so I can discover the problem with the handset. I had to make one phone call to a Mysore number where my friend stayed. A 8 min chat amounted to some 350 rupees, about 8 USD! So be careful.
Very friendly staff eager to please
Good restaurant/courtyard
Colonial architecture
Somewhat incompetent front desk
Comparatively pricey restaurant
A really pricey local phone call
A broken telephone
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Mysore Palace is a must see if one's in town. From the train station to Metropole, expect to pay 50 rupees for a taxi and around 15-20 rupees for an auto rickshaw.
