All good except the bathroom!
Location, Food, Bar & Restaurant view
6.7
before checking in, we were seated at the beautiful lounge overlooking the bay. the view is breathtaking and makes one look forward to the stay.
we had booked 2 rooms. for check-in, all our ids were photocopied.(senior citizens & kid included!) the receptionist told us this is standard procedure for andamans. strangely, we did not come across this "standard procedure" at any other hotel in havelock or port blair.
at agoda.com, the room info shows "view: ocean". i had called up prior to arrival and had confirmed the details. however, on arrival, we were told that for an ocean view room we had to shell out additional rs.750 per room, per night. but despite telling the resv desk about agoda and my phone call, they simply said that they do not put ocean view rooms for sale on agoda or any other website. if that were the case, we asked them to check and rectify the description on agoda. but even now agoda room info shows ocean view, even though the hotel does not honor it.
we were given two interconnected rooms side rooms at one end of the property - a long walk from the reception area...but it was overall so beautiful that we did not mind. the rooms were nice, spacious, slanting roofs and wooden floors. one had a little side view of the ocean the other overlooked some hill greenery.
the biggest disappointment was the bathroom. it is extremely small with old fittings, no health faucet and very old fashioned blue tiles - like a hostel bathroom. the linen was clean and they provide beautiful biotique toileteries - perhaps to lessen the shock of seeing the bathroom.
the travel desk is not reliable and charges outrageously. if possible, try alternate travel arrangements.
the breakfast was good, f&b service is good. restaurant has a nice ambience.
the hotel is on a hill overlooking the bay. it is very close to the airport, the main museums & cellular jail.
overall, if you have a really short stay and can ignore the bathroom, fortune is a decent pla

Old and Dated
Location is great. Service is excellent.

The rooms in this hotel are old and dirty. The price we paid is ridiculous for what we got. Breakfast was a joke. Internet was down during our whole stay. I can't say if any other place is better, but I wouldnt stay here again.

Good location & views but basic room
Nice outdoor bar overlooking the sea, helpful reception staff
5.7
i had a standard room which was quite basic but ok for just the 1 night. air con and ceiling fan worked well and the turndown service included a free anti-mozzie tablet for the electrical device to ensure an undisturbed sleep. the ensuite bathroom was well below expectations with cracked tiles and broken fittings, but the shower had hot water which was good.
reception staff were helpful with taxis, and while no free wifi in the room, it was available at reception.

Good hotel but slightly expensive
nice rooms, good breakfast
6.3
The hotel is clean, well maintained, service is quite decent & the breakfast is good. However, as is the case with all resorts in the Andamans, it's a good idea to go there only as part of a holiday package. Since we were short of time we just decided to stay there a couple nights & booked rooms & sightseeing trips individually & that turned out to be an expensive deal. When negotiating with Xavier, the travel desk guy at the Fortune, be very careful as he's a very smart businessman. Use your bargaining skills to the best of your abilities.
In any case it was a good experience - the hotel was nice & was conveniently located.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Unless you have at least 6-7 days to spend, don't go to the Andamans. Since it's so much to the east, the sun sets by 4 PM. And all attractions are an island to 2 away, so it takes time to travel. So you can only cover 1 attraction a day.

Great location but run down hotel
Fabulous lay out and great view
6.7
Well we loved the hotel itself and the staff was amazing. The breakfast buffet lacked personality as did the dinner spread. We should have gotten a lot more value for the price. Also our room was not what we booked and we got a twin vs. a standard double as we asked. Though they pushed the beds together for us.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Ask for a sea facing room

A Well Maintained Resort With A Spectacular View
Very clean, Extremely Helpful and friendly staff, great resort amenities
8.7
I only stayed at the resort for one night but was very impressed. The hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Five star amenities including a salt water swimming pool. The view of the Bay is spectacular with a dock just below that kids were fishing from in the morning. The restaurant was okay, nothing special. Breakfast buffet was pretty good, mainly Indian food but some western features as well. The hotel is very clean and in fact when I arrived I had a shower and went down to the restaurant for dinner, when I returned to my room it had been cleaned, the bathroom wiped down with fresh towels already there. It's beautifully furnished and the bed was extremely comfortable (not always the case in other Indian hotels as I have discovered). There is wi-fi available but you are charged extra for it at the rate of 90rs (about $2usd) per hour.
