Pool & Location. We got an internet special rate NOT including breakfast (for another $12.50)
Room is quite decent, but the standard room is very plain. It is clean and does have a TV, and reasonable bathroom--ie good water pressure, big towels, etc. Not luxurious, but very decent.
The suites are quite wonderful with great views & very spacious--but this is not really a 5 star hotel, and for the same money you could have a much plainer room in a more fabulous hotel. It's a tradeoff.
Overall, the hotel, a Heritage Hotel, meaning a restored palace, has been kept up, but is not in glistening shape. It could be really fabulous if someone invested a lot of money--but that notwithstanding, for the price it is great value.
Very pleasant and in the category of eeking into 4 star, ie a luxurious 3 star, or 4 star-minus.
The food is in a very nice dining room, but generally mediocre quality. However, very nearby is the Sunset Terrace, overlooking the lake (& Lake Palace Hotel), and that had great food.
Breakfast buffet is very good.
For the right price I would highly recommend it.
I think it is nicer than the nearby Fateh Prakesh, which looked a bit dark and dreary for the part that we saw. But there are other parts to that hotel--which may be much nicer. The Shiv Niwas P. has a light feeling about the architecture, and they do have internet available, only much to my irritation, only in one hour intervals. Still, I would recommend this hotel--I think my expectations were too high, which is perhaps why I am not as enthusiastic. I was thinking this was more of a luxury hotel, this is just a very pleasing, nice, pretty, restored palace hotel, but no matter how luxurious your suite, this is not a luxury 5 star hotel in a town that has at least 3 of that caliber (and much more $$)--
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : go see the Crystal Gallery--part of the City Museum Palace.
Plus the shopping inside the City Museum Palace complex, especially Anoutki and the store next to it--are great.

Excellent service from the check in through to the check out. The room I had was well appointed with all modern amenities. The restaurant & the Lake side Sunset cafe are individually very good, with the former providing an experience of regal dining & the later affording a spectacular view of the lake & the palace.
No real complaints except that the extension to the room, which is designed for use as a work place, needs either a fan or an A/C.
A very nice place for a leisurely, romantic holiday. The Shiv Niwas Palace Hotel is part of the Udaipur City Palace. This makes the stay wonderful as it provides a close up of traditional Rajasthani hospitality & regal lifestyle. The rooms are very comfortable & well appointed & the staff are very helpful & accommodating. It is a must stay place for both leisure & business travelers.
Restaurant Tip : The Sunset Cafe is a wonderful open air restaurant. The menu is multi cuisine & the food is good. The USO is the spectacular view.
