Firstly we are a pretty easygoing couple. We are not the type to expect the world from hotels we stay in so given that, I hope you take note of the below. We stayed at the Bali Rani for our honeymoon. Just a few of the many problems we had were as follows:
1) They have pool rules when you get your towel. The first rule states you are not allowed to reserve the daybeds by the pool. People would put their towels on the day beds in the morning and go out all day shopping. After talking with the staff and watching the day beds for one hour they advised me to remove the towels, which I did, then it started. I had atleast eight people around me abusing me. As an Aussie I like a bit of biffo but to see the staff sit back and watch was terrible. Why have rules when they aren't enforced? 2) They have a sign up at reception stating DVD player to rent for IDR 50,000 per night. When I asked for one they didnt have any. Wouldn't it be logical to take the sign down? 3) We had arranged late check out of an extra three hours due to a late departure of our flight. When they requested USD 30 I grabbed my luggage and checked into another hotel for three hours. Total cost IDR 70,000.
My advise to anyone is do not stay here. I would suggest Ramayana or Bali Garden. This was my 10th time to Bali so I know the place well. I found the staff very bad and an embarrassment to my wife on her first trip to Bali. As mentioned there were plenty of other problems such as dodgy air-conditioner, etc.

To me Kuta area is not an ideal place for holiday. Only good for shopping of fake goods such as Versace, D&G (but with good quality). If you are interested in culture or handicraft, it's better to stay in Ubud. Or Nusa Dua for sea sport. Jimbaya is a great place for romantic dinner by the beach and watching sunset. Bali generally is rather expensive. Despite of the threat of terrorism, Bali is still a very safe place. You need not to be worried about pick pocket or robbers. However, you will need to bargain well in order to get good price (Sellers could offer 3 times of the original price)
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There is a short cut to the beach from the hotel by going through Discovery Plaza (which is just a cross the road from the hotel). From here, you could watch pretty nice sun set view. Even though Kuta is not a famous place to watch Sun set in Bali, but the sight is just as romantic.
