24 hour pool, room service, restaurant and bar.
Proximity to night life.
Friendly
Lack of powerpoints in room.
Cracked toilet seat that would pinch when used.
The Barong Hotel is basic but comfortable accommodation. It is easy walking distance to Legion St. and the major night clubs, bars and shops of the area (5 mins +). It is a longer approximately 15 minute walk to beach. Great pool area with the front pool closing at 9pm and the back pool with the bar and restaurant open 24 hours. Thought this can have noise problems if you are a light sleeper.
The room has only one powerpoint that is available for charging cameras, phones etc(this was the square 'UK' type configuration) so i often unplugged the TV for this (standard Bali configuration).
The movie channel played a handfull of movies haphazardly and repetitively, all other channels were local, but you don't go to Bali to watch TV.
Over all an enjoyable trouble free stay and would stay there again.
Nightlife Tip : Expresso Bar about 8 min walk, good live bands and drinks price.

This is our third stay at the Barong and it has to be situated in one of the most convenient spots in kuta. a stroll to the beach, 1 minute to Legian street, and the best swim up bars for this category of hotel. Friendly helpful hotel staff! Such a cheap and value for money hotel!!
Rooms old and out dated, tv tiny, bathroom smells
As the Barong has grown in popularity it has attracted a much rowdier crowd and this time there was not a night that went by when we were not woken up from around 2am-6am with the 24hour pool bar full of drunks even a fight at 6am with glasses thrown and broken!!
The Barong over all is a brilliant value for money hotel, this is really the bottom line and any of the cons are out weighed heavily by the pros!
The lovely staff and swim up bars and location make it a cheap yet memorable holiday!!
Nightlife Tip : legian street and all the famous clubs at you door, Paddys, bounty, etc etc, great shopping along poppies II toward the beach aswell!

Good pool, nice ambiance, and lively atmosphere.
We had a pleasant stay. The hotel is located very close to legian street and 10 min walk to kuta beach. The hotel is ideally located and is value for money. Those who want to enjoy night life this is the hotel to stay. Room service is good. The breakfast provided was basic in nature. But what you get here is what you pay. Over all its a good hotel and value for money.

Great Service and Wonderful Staff, Good position in the centre of Kuta, 24 hour room service
Rundown rooms, Noise from other Guests that you can hear in your room, luandry service is really bad. Bad T.V
Ok i as much as i hate to say it but i wont be staying there again, as i found that this hotel was used as an overflow from the Bounty just down the street, so i was privy to being woken up at 4 am in the morning nearly every day from ppl screaming yelling and also the domestic fights from a few of the other guests were very loud and well to say the least entertaning ,i also had to repetedly ask them to swap my mattress as all i could feel were the springs poking in my body as i slept, but what they did was use the same old mattress and just keep flipping it over, it took about a week before they replaced it with a new one and only then did they ask if i wanted to move rooms. But i will say the staff were absalotly wonderful when you had to deal with them, so if you want a quiet relaxing rest dont stay here unless your a bogan or into desperate house wives oh and all 10 channels on the T.V are all indonisian so hire a DVD player and enjoy the copy movies, oh and they seemed to show Porn on the guest Movie channel at around 3 am.
Nightlife Tip : Great Pub just outside the entrence to your right heading into Kuta called Piggys great food best burgers in Bali and some Great live Music from Reme.

Yobbos thinking it's great to party in pool all night yelling, screaming and carrying on
Have stayed here before and loved it. Rooms are clean, shower is hot and the airconditioner works. Location is in the middle of everything. Security let some strange guy into our room at 6am because he said it was his room and management didn't give a hoot! Look elsewhere!Yobbos at the pool party all night with no consideration for anyone else!

Great swimming pool, they had 2 acoustic guitar afternoons at the main pool, the massages were AMAZING!! The staff were VERY friendly and helpful! It wasnt expensive at all and even the late check out was resonable. The hotel was in a great location - it was pretty much in the heart of Kuta, but once you get into the hotel you forget about the hustle and bustle outside! The staff were really efficient with room cleaning.
FANTASTIC
Linen wasnt the cleanest - it was stained not dirty - it didnt bother us.
The pool had a fair bit of chlorine - dont open your eyes in it!
Overall it was a fantastic experience. I was worried about the noise considering there was a 24 hour pool bar. We went when it was peak footy trip season and there were 3 football teams and they didnt bother us. We stayed out the back right on top of the 24 hour pool bar and the noise was not a problem. The staff are very resposive if you complain. The reception offer great advice on sight seeing tours and things to do! It was awesome fun. I went with my boyfriend for a holiday and we met heaps of other couples and had a great time!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We went to Jombarran Bay which was amazing. If you catch a taxi there make sure you choose the resteraunt you want to go to otherwise the driver will take you to the one where they get comission. Sharkies was where we went and it was brilliant!! We chose our seafood right out of the tank! Oh DONT EAT MCDONALDS. We got really sick for 24 hours due to Big Macs - i think it was the fact that the burgers had been sitting for ages. It was awful! But the rest of the food was great! If you have $2 coins, take them, the balinese love them!

Nice pool area with bar. Good location
We were upgraded to bigger room with separated entrance near the pool area. Rooms where simple but clean. Two nice pools with pool bar and restaurant. We only stayed one night so we never tried the food at the hotel. There where no road noise but it was very easy to hear other guests coming and going, very disturbing at night time. Altogether a nice place to stay, close to Kutas shopping and beach area.

Convenient location, short distance walk to legian shopping area and dhouple the distance walk to Kuta beach
Very old run down hotel with furniture that should have been changed many decades ago. Thier mattress, pillow, blanket, bedsheets and especially thier white towels which is now in greyish color are so worn out it looks more like dirty floor rugs. The shower cum toilet with its wah basin outside needs a ful facelift, lloks more like a hostel toilet. Don't even have basic things like kettle
It is a waste to see thsi hotel with a good locaiton and boastign 2 swiimign pools in this rotting situation. All it need is some renovations it its rooms, bath/toilet, restaurant and better up keep of the pool and greens. And a full change of furniture, fittings and including curtains, pillows, mattress, blanket, bedsheets, fllor towels, and bath towels
My advice for anyone considering this hotel is its only worth consider if you are only looking for a place to sleep which is located nearby Legian Shopping area and Kuta beach. Other then that thsi hotel can offer nothing at all.
Shopping Tip : Before you do any shopping, it is a must to go Sukawati Art Market first. You can find almost any thing sold at Legian/Kuta in this market. The choice and selections there are more and the price are cheaper too.

Pool, Clean Rooms, right in central Kuta - Poppies 2
Management have no control over Guest behaviour
Staff were friendly but showed no control over the behaviour of some of the guests. It would seem that wil the recent decsease in ticket prices to Bali the Barong is now catering towards Aussie cashed up Bogans. The rear pool is open for 24 hour use and I had the pleasure of having a poolside room and inturn witnessed a 24 hour pool party / binge drinking session by 20 odd yobs. Despite numerous complaints, management did nothing to intervene and it would appear that such behaviour is condoned. NOT THE PLACE TO TAKE THE FAMILY - however would be good if you were taking your end of season trip with the Gosnells Footy Club
Shopping Tip : Close to shopping and nightlife - Haggle Haggle Haggle!

great location for shopping and nightlife,
nice swimming pool,
clean rooms
swimming pool noisy at night
I had my first hotel night booked in another Legian hotel, on the cheap(ist) side. I wasn't too impressed so I checked in another one , which was worse! (dirty, coackroach in the bathroom and an unbearable smell). I then decided to spend a bit more to get a more decent accomodation. Coming from these 2 other hotels, I was extremely impressed by Barong! The room was really spacious and super clean. I had a room on the first floor with the balcony overlooking the pool which was lovely!
However I have one complaint about the swimming pool. It's open 24hours (or so it seems) and the 3 nights I was there I was awoken at 4a.m by drunken people coming back from the clubs and using the pool. I think the pool opening times need to be sorted out, especially since all apartments surround the pool, I should think it does disturb everyone.
Apart from that, I would definitely recommend the hotel, it is overall nice and friendly and the location is ace!

close to kuta night life , many restaraunt close by , hotel pool is great ,staff are excellent , very friendly .
breakfast was very poor , no selection like before especially considering price has gone up
we have stayed at barong hotel 4 times now this time we stayed the breakfast was very poor , only allowed 2 eggs each and when asked for extra bacon only recived less that 1/4 of a rasher bacon ,last time we had around 4-5 hot choices for buffet breakfast , now its only bacon and eggs or saussage and eggs . very dissapointing considering what we got before, the staff at this hotel are excellent , friendly and offer good service , next time we go to bali we will probably not stay at this hotel because of the poor selection for breakfast we recived this time , un fortunately it seems the owner is being greedy by putting the price of the hotel up , and only raising the salery of staff a small amount , and largely reducing the breakfast selection , but still advertising as buffet breakfast , unless this is changed im sure you will not only lose us as your regular customers , but many others , as everyone i spoke to complained about the same thing
Restaurant Tip : fajar restrant , TYAS TATOO STUDIO, gong corner restrant

Great swimming pools, friendly staff, central to beach and bars, great breakfast every morning
slightly old decor but it didn't bother us
Resonable priced hotel in the heart of Poppies II. We had the best 10 day holiday here. There was a real mixture of ppl and if anything we would have preferred partying around the pool! The staff were helpful, 24 room service/assistance, rooms serviced daily, air con. We were only in our rooms to sleep and really enjoyed it!!

Very close to some good tailors and clubs, reasonably clean, nice relaxing pool area, good air-con, pretty although simple grounds, good exchange rate
Haven for bogans, incredibly overpriced drinks and food, food much better presented by tasting much worse than competitors, don't have any turn down/cleaning service during your stay, shower had to be manually drained, service was between bad and mediocre (frequently ignored, dishes didn't get picked up for 1.5 days even though I called 3 times), etc.
The main thing the Barong has going for it is it's central location. If you're after a big party in Bali, the Barong is an easy place to stumble home to or catch a bike down to the beach. The reasonable exchange rate is a nice bonus. Janoko tailor is a nice short stroll, as is Rainbow Warung (opposite Bounty) and there's Lyrix up the road it T junctions on for a more chilled band atmosphere if you don't want to go clubbing.
But yeah, the staff are lazy, the food is terrible, the rooms are mediocre at best, the prices on food/drinks are high... but if you want the Kuta experience, this is a great kick-off point.
Hotel Feature Tip : When we got there, the shower didn't drain. You had to remove the little guard grill, and then remove a bit of plastic underneath that that was actually guarding the hole the water is meant to go down. The reason that cap is there? If it's not, the room starts to smell of Bali water/sewerage. So always replace it after you shower
