Great location, but no mobile coverage in room
Just across from Kuta beach

The location is great, just across Kuta beach. It is also walking distance to Legian beach, where lots of western dining are available. However, wifi signal was almost none in the room, as well as mobile phone network.
Service is ok, and the room is also comfortable.

This is now the second time i have stayed at the Istana Rama and it has been great both times. the people are very nice, helpful and welcoming. The bar out the front always has great music and vey yummy meals and specials.
Nightlife Tip:
reggae fans - go to Apache.

Worst Bali Accommodation I have encountered

I stayed 4 nights. On arrival I had a room with 2 single beds although I emailed (and received confirmation) requesting 1 double bed as I am on my own. The shower nozzle was broken and had to be fixed. The toilet did not flush properly the entire time. 2 of the 4 nights I had no running hot water and could not have a shower. I asked 3 times for a change of room - they said they were full. I had to ask twice to have the hot water fixed over 2 days. The toilet was never fixed. I requested a refund from hotel as I believe this is unacceptable when I paid as much as I would for another superior hotel - especially not having hot (or even warm water) for a shower. They denied this request saying I had to contact AGODA to request a refund. Can you please let me know how I go about getting a refund for this trip as it was well below standard and I believe I should at least receive what is advertised and expect to have functioning bathroom facilities.

We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights i have stayed many times in Bali. This hotel is excellent very clean, organised hotel the staff are the friendliest i have met yet always helpful. Room service is great on time and all food hot. the grounds and pool area are kept immaculate. Quiet hotel but close to beach and shopping areas many resturants to choose from in area. the pool is large with a swim up bar, there is meal and snack avaialable all day and

Great place to stay - would return there

Located opposite the beach and a short walk from Poppies Lanes 1 and 2, this hotel was a great place to stay. You could wonder and find great little places to eat and shop, enjoy strolls along the beach as well as venture further afield.
Its restaurant was also good and the pool was lovely.
They offered a free cooking class that started with a trip to the local market and then back to the hotel restaurant where the chef walked you through the preparations.
Highly recommend this hotel due to location and facilities. Only thing they could add would be a DVD player in the rooms (was cable tv).
Travel tip:
Walk a different direction each day to explore the local lanes and eateries.

Was a pleasent nights stay here, however be careful with your price, there are better (read: more modern/upmarket) options in the same price bracket unless you get a really good deal. However I cannot fault the hotel on service and I would stay here again.

Love the location but not the room

Me and my husband travelling to Bali for 5 days and we stayed in 3 different hotel to try...and our thought about Grand Istana Rama:
1. the room that we've got, the phone signal was really bad (actually can't get signal at all),and some random guest ring our doorbell at 4am in the morning :(. so we ask them to switch our room more to the front. The night Duty Manager were EXCELLENT!! , he listen to our concern and check on us make sure that we're good. BUT the Morning staff customer service (the girls) were poor, I was waiting in line for a while but she didn't acknowledge me, So I have to ask if there are another person can help me, so here comes the other girl with no smile and looks like she were upset to come out to the front and help the guests.
2. the good thing stayed in this hotel are: we got free 30 min massage, beer and pizza. The location just right in front of the beach. the room is pretty spacious.
3. the bell boy and all the male staff were so friendly and smile.
