Nice place with friendly staff
Very nice hotel, beautiful swimming pool

We arrived at night at this hotel and basically nobody welcomed us! There was no light and some workers and a cement mixer were still working at 10pm!! We learnt then that the neighbour was doing some works.
The owner was comprehensive, apologised and upgraded us to a Suite as a compensation.
The hotel is very nice, the swimming pool and the garden too. It's a bit far from Ubud city center.

Beautifully appointed but lacking final touches
Swimming pool, dining area, views from terrace, location, staff friendly and accommodating.
6.3
the indigo tree is situated outside of ubud which isn't a problem as the hotel provides transport to and from the centre. the hotel itself is furnished really nicely with the reception/dining area being the hub of the place with a good mix of international visitors. we visited in the wet season and suspect that they have a damp problem as the soft furnishings seemed to smell musty. they only allocate 1 towel per room which was inconvient for a family of four. we asked for extra and received one more but that was taken away again the next day. both towels had substantial holes in them. the pool is beautiful as are the grounds. the owner and staff are helpful. to sum up, lovely location, missing those touches that other hotels can offer... sort these out and all will be well.

Owner Steven is a gem
Beautiful setting and unique architecture of the villa
7
We arrived to find one of our rooms without AC and requested a change, and were switched to another villa, Indigo Villa, where we got a whole section to ourselves. We ended up finding that the AC did not make too much of a difference, but the presence of mosquito nets helped tremendously. Indigo Villa is beautifully designed and built, but the rustic life is not for us, as the roosters, cats, and dogs around are up early doing their usual morning symphony, making sleep difficult. The best part of our stay was the owners Steven and his partner Andre, who were both treasure troves of inside local information, and every single one of their recommendations and advice made our trip spectacular. The only down side was that the driver forgot to wake up to take us to the airport early last morning because of New Year's celebrations the night before, putting us into a panic. After some frantic calling and urgent pleas, a driver (not the original one) arrived just in time. With some fast driving, we narrowly made our plane back home just in the nick of time. That is an experience we don't care to repeat, so we advise that airport runs are confirmed and doubly re-confirmed.

Lovely small hotel if you're looking to stay away from the hustle bustle of Ubud but still near enough for day time activities in Ubud. The hotel is a little difficult to find as there wasn't any signage of the hotel. Ask your driver to call for directions ahead of time as there's limited mobile coverage in that area. Staffs are friendly and efficient.
Do not expect working hot water though they said it will take a while to work....it doesn't! We booked 2 standard rooms, but was given a small villa with 2 rooms. Bring your own slippers as they don't provide any and it's a little troublesome when you're taking a shower. Would be better if the pool is bigger! The padi field scenery advertised is much smaller than advertised!
Restaurant Tip:
If you like BBQ spare ribs, try Naughty Nuri whereby you'll need to pay 30,000 for the hotel shuffle to take you there. If you're yearning for Western Food, try Kue which is a short distance from Ubud Market...exit from Ubud Market heading towards Tegallalang direction. It's a small little shop on your right (opposite of BCA Bank).

A truly laid back hotel
Peaceful,remotely sombre and yes,perfectly restful
6
we weren't fully aware of the extremely remoteness of its location, hence its abit inconvenient to be not in the vicinity of shopping or eating around ubud centre. otharwise the place is great for seeking solitude like escaped or honeymooning.the service is very personalised but far from the abundance of the exagerated offer in the brochure.love the architecture though ,if not minding the lack of the sence of security.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The pool is not too well maintained, looks murky.

Very nice hotel in rice terraces near Ubud center
Very spacy (see comment), friendly staff, nice interior
9.7
We stayed at Villa Areklo for four nights in september 2012. We can strongly recommend Villa Areklo for a pleasant stay in Ubud.
Our villa was located about 3km north of Ubud center. Free transfer to the center was included, the use of a motor bikes or bikes too - no problem to get to Ubud centre and back. We had two rooms and such a lot of space (especially one room was so big), we could hardly believe in the beginning. Very good breakfast, freshly prepared by the staff (2 people cared for us 4) and really enough to have a comfortable start into the day. We could choose between two swimming pools. Nice rice terraces around the hotel. Quiet, except the chicken in the morning (which was not a real problem). A lot of things to see, good recommendations by the owners.

Enjoy living in the nature near Ubud
Beautiful site, quiet, personal & warm welcome,
8
For those who want to escape busy Ubud and to experience living in a beautifully arranged small hotel near the nature, will enjoy the stay at Villa Areklo. André has renovated the entire hotel only recently. He and his staff are very helpful for all kind of advice (not only on Ubud) and keep a "family-like atmosphere" at the Villa. In the evening you can have a dinner there (either cooked by the hotel or with a delivery service from an excellent restaurant). The small swimming pool gets its water from a nearby water source.
The strength of Villa Areklo is also its weakness: You will need to use the (free) pick-up service to get from/to Ubud; so, it is not practical to go several times per day to the town and back. If you accept this, you will enjoy the experience of living in the nature. Particularly beautiful is the "Jugle Suite" on the first floor.
The overall price-quality ratio is excellent!
P.S. Ignore the website www.villa-areklo.com; somebody tries to blackmail the hotel. The correct site is: www.green-hotel.org
