Beautiful location, very restful, tastefully decorated. Nice pool and good food in poolside restaurant. My daughters aged 27 and 25 used the spa and massage facilities and were very pleased.
Very expensive - like the rest of Ubud. Glitz and kitsch ideal for starry-eyed Japanese and Australian honeymooners but not really a suitable place for anyone else. Far from Ubud, so you will spend a fortune on transport. My daughter was very disappointed that there was no gym or fitness centre - a real shocker for a luxury hotel. The hotel website boasts that it has a jogging track. However reception staff had no map and could give no directions. They suggested a 3km walk down busy main roads outside the hotel complex. Of course, the Balinese think all Westerners are complete idiots but I was surprised that even they would think that my 25 year old marathon running daughter would run unaccompanied in heat and humidity down streets jammed with motorbikes and touts without any directions!
At first I liked the appearance of the complex and the beautiful chalets. However, after a couple of days I tired of the artificial nature of the resort and frankly I was really glad to leave. For the seasoned traveller, there isn't much to do in the resort or in Ubud. Hotel staff didn't seem to know what was going on most of the time. The so-called cultural events were truly appalling - shows put together by Westerners for Westerners. There was only one pc for guest internet use in the lobby and I never managed to get to use it - so don't expect to keep in touch with the outside world. The bus service from the hotel to the centre of Ubud is so infrequent that it is of little use. Ubud has no taxi service so you will be forced to negotiate prices with awful touts who will take you in their private car or motorbike. The hotel has no gym or fitness centre and the jogging track advertized on the hotel website is a joke in extremely poor taste, as described earlier in this review. Food in the hotel was good but of course hopelessly overpriced. I certainly would not return.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : It is best to hire a driver with a car for the duration of your stay. We hired Wayan Raja who took us to some remote and less visited sites, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Don't hesitate to contact me if you want his contact details.
Personally, I was extremely disappointed with Ubud itself. I don't agree with Wikitravel which describes Ubud as the cultural capital of Bali. I saw nothing authentic about Ubud. It is a tourist rip-off. Most of the woodcarvers were trying to sell statues of giraffes - I cannot see any connection with local culture in that. Most of the Balinese dances were choreographed by Westerners, in particular Walter Spies. As for the other arts and crafts, you can buy them more cheaply in London or Paris.

Situated on a hillside, surrounded by rice paddies
Internet required a prepaid card
Kamandalu upgraded us to a bungalow with a private court yard and elevated private deck with a day bed, wonderful view and breeze. The mango smoothies at the pool were wonderful. We arrived early (10AM) and the room was ready. The hotel also accomodated our delayed departure (1PM) without any hassle.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Take an early morning walk through the rice paddies next to the hotel. The farmers are very friendly.

Nothing to complain about...
I really enjoyed my stay in Kamandalu. The hotel is not in Ubud town so is quiet and not too crowded, but it is close enough (10 minute car ride) to the town center for great restaurants and shopping. Food is reasonaly priced for a 5 star hotel and surprisingly delicious!
What impressed me the most was the friendly staff in the hotel. During my stay there everyone was sweet and helpful; you could feel it when you talked to them. I left my phone charger in the room and only found out on my departure day (I moved to another hotel for 2 days already). I called Kamandalu - they were nice enough to find the charger, and offered to deliver it to the airport for me. I was very grateful!! Thank you again!
