Jimbaran

Jimbaran occupies the southern peninsula of Bali, and it’s a popular first stop for tourists due to its proximity to the airport. Accommodation in Jimbaran includes a few phenomenal luxury resorts that are overflowing with posh amenities. Tourists enjoy ample facilities without giving up the seclusion that makes Bali such a popular holiday escape.

Daily life centers on crescent-shaped Jimbaran Beach, where the best resorts are found. Guest spend most of the day sunbathing, swimming, or playing 18 holes at Pecatu golf course. Meanwhile, the water sports are farther south down the Bukit Peninsula. Surfing and paragliding are particularly popular along this stretch of coastline.

Bali’s biggest traditional fish market is north of the main beach area. Jimbaran has a reputation for seafood, and dozens of cafés and restaurants serve up the day’s fresh catch on the outskirts of Jimbaran market. Of all the seafood restaurants in Jimbaran, Dava enjoys the most critical acclaim.

The main off-beach attraction in Jimbaran is Garuda Wisnu Kencana, a cultural park dominated by a 23-meter limestone carving of the deity Vishnu. Garuda, the mythical bird that he rides, was also carved from a limestone cliff here. The complex includes restaurants and an amphitheater that hosts cultural exhibitions.

Jimbaran doesn’t have as much for shoppers as other resorts on Bali, but it is well-known for ceramics. Jenggala Gallery (on Jalan Uluwatu) displays high-quality ceramics that can be admired or taken home as gifts. Surf shops and a few other boutiques are in the same area.

While most of the hotels in Jimbaran are exclusive and expensive, it’s still possible to find mid-range accommodation. Some of these still offer excellent amenities, but they sacrifice location to keep prices down. The best selection of mid-range accommodation is along Jalan Uluwatu or near the Honorary Consulate of Italy.
