Lovely Hotel, Lovely Place

The mangrove suite was excellent, the facilities superb!

Great hotel. The rooms and facilities were excellent and well designed. The mangrove suite was spacious and the onset-type hot spring was a great treat. The hotel accommodates a limited number of guests and this adds to the exclusivity and tranquility of the place. If there was one thing they need to improve on, its the food selection. Limited and pricey. Overall, a great experience.

Exceeded our high expectations

Great for nature lovers who also like to have fun
9
We traveled as a group of 9 people, covering all ages ( 4, 6, 10, 15, 17 and 4 adults ) and interests. We had been traveling through Flores Lombok, Gili Islands and Bali for 3 weeks and this hotel pleased us most because of the great management and staff who really went out of their way to assist us. The dive shop next to the hotel is very professionally run and although the dives turned out slightly more expensive than the ones we experienced elsewhere during this trip, the equipment was all in excellent condition. The coral offers a huge amount of soft and hard and bolder shapes and a wide variety of colors. The fish are all small but is impressive quantities. Unfortunately, we ran out of time to use the spa but the other facilities of Naya Gawana were great. We loved to be able to have a game of pool and is was nice for the kids on one of the days to have 2 hours of TV on a great screen in the games room. The food was of a high standard. One of the many highlights for us was the bird/nature walk to the West Bali National Park. A slight misunderstanding caused us to visit the 'breeding area' of the rare Balinese Starling first but after we make if clear that we specially traveled to see them in the wild, they organised a 45 minutes (slow but pleasant ) boat trip to Brumbun Bay in the West Bali National Park. This allowed us to see the extremely rare Balinese startling in the wild ( we have traveled all over the world to see wildlife and this was a real highlight ). We also got to see the black monkey the Timor Deer and the Jungle fowl (male and female) combined with a huge amount of butterflies. We had a great New Year celebration and while the majority of the other guests left before midnight (we struggled at 10.30pm) it was a spectacular show and at midnight the whole staff came out and celebrated loudly and pleasantly at which point we all, guests and staff alike, jumped in the pool! If only the rest of 2013 is half as good as the start!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: The nature walk as described is not offered as standard so do ask for it explicitly. Hint to the management: please advertise this one. We made publicity for it and another family made the dame trip the next day and they even got to see a cobra.

amazing location but very secluded

relaxing, and the hot spring pool
9.3
This resort is quite off the beaten track. We drove there ourselves and had no trouble getting there.I will say that we paid a $75 transfer fee of which were not able to delete. Be prepared to go in to the resort and not leave until your booking is complete. There is very little outside of the grounds. Our lumbung suite was beautiful. The meals we had were lovely. The setting was amazing and the hot spring pool was our secret. We could not get enough of it. All in all it was very expensive, something you do only once but I am glad we did.
Hotel Feature Tip: take some snacks with you and even something for one or two light meals. Fruit too

Peaceful place to get away from the crowds

Friendly staff. Tranquil, it’s all about relaxing with the natural surroundings.

we really enjoyed our time here! when we first arrived from ubud (a long 4.5 hour drive in the rain through the mountains) we were a bit concerned about how isolated it really was. we stayed 3 nights and in that time never left the resort (except a boat trip to snorkel off menjagan island which was the highlight of our entire 2 week trip). our first thoughts were that we had locked ourselves into buying all our meals and activities from the hotel, which is never a nice thought when you’re trying to not go above your budget. however, we were pleasantly surprised by the value for money that we got at the restaurant. prices are a bit higher and the selection is not a wide as you would get if there was a little town nearby. in saying this we fully enjoyed all the meals and drinks from this restaurant and the setting on the jetty-like outdoor area certainly makes up for any deficiencies. we stayed mid-jan and found ourselves to have the resort mostly to ourselves which was wonderful. it is a peaceful place to relax. the pool is beautiful and the pictures from the hotel do not do it justice.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: snorkelling off menjangan island with the on-site guide is a must!!

Fantastic hotel in a quiet and natural environment

Beautiful scenery, friendly and helpful staff, perfect location to go on snorkelling trips

we stayed 4 nights in novus gawana and would definetly recommend it to anyone looking for a place away from noise and close to nature, from couples on honeymoonp to family with children.the location is quite unique, in the middle of the mangrove, the pool is fantastic. we lloved our lumbung bungalows, made of beautiful wood.the staff was absolutely adorable. it was the best hotel we stayed in bali!

Beautiful resort with traditional villa's

Quiet location nearby Menjangan Island, beautiful villa's in a nice garden
7.7
We choose this hotel for the location nearby Menjangan Island. We stayed at a Lumbung suite, which was so luxury and romantic. The location is a little bit remote, so we stayed at the hotel for our dinner. The food was good, but expensive for Bali (100.000 rupiah for an american breakfast). Afternoon tea with snacks was included. No ocean view from our suite, but we got birdsong instead.
Travel tip: There is a diving center on the hotel grounds : Top Dive.

Classy - An absolute delight

The wonderful service

We were delighted with our Lumbung, roomy and well decorated and the bathroom was large and very nice. Diving was the main reason we were there and although it was a little late when we arrived the friendly receptionist got in touch with the dive master for us to arrange a dive for my husband the next day and snorkelling for me. We were taken on two dives, one of 50 minutes at the back of Mejanan Island, then break for one hour lunch (lunch provided and rather delicious) then another dive of 50 minutes at the front of the island. The first dive was actually a bit boring and I was wondering why everyone raved about the snorkelling here. The second dive made up for it though – it was spectacular! The colours were amazing and the area just teemed with fish. It made me wonder why they bothered with the first dive at all. Once we returned we relaxed by the rather lovely infinity pool. The views from the reception/pool/restaurant area of the resort are stunning. The restaurant is very nice, we had breakfast both mornings out on the decking, which is also a good place to relax with a drink in the evening. While breakfast was a-la-carte and very nice, the dishes served at dinner were a bit hit and miss, some dishes being quite spectacular while others were completely boring. And yes, maybe a little bit pricey by Balinese standards. we found the staff in the restaurant were sensational! Completely professional yet so genuinely warm and friendly, I have never come across such amazing service ever anywhere before. We are grateful to them for making our stay just that extra bit special and memorable.

Restaurant very expensive

Close to menjangan island

Cost more to eat bad food at the restaurant than it does at a decent restaurant in Australia.
Restaurant Tip: Ask at the dive shop next door for advice on where to eat that isn't the restaurant.

Was a nice hotel yet we found a snake in the room on the last night. Rooms are a little walk from pool. Diving centre there was great, but not cheap. Not many other places to eat around the area.

Sleeping in a Lumbung

A lovely hotel at the end of a day of exploring Bali. Nice to get away from the busy tourist centers.

This is a charming boutique hotel. The exquisite two-story villas mimic the lumbungs in the rice patties. The infinity pool is fed by the hot springs and does seem to go on for infinity! Snorkeling near Menjangan Island was a terrific day trip, well worth the price.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip: We had a driver who took us through the picturesque rice terraces on the way.
