HOSPITABLE OLDER STYLE HOTEL IN GREAT SETTING Guest Rating: 7

Great service & very lush, green rainforest surrounding. Very large hotel, spacious.. Extremely comfy beds. Love the smell of their sheets. Their room service pasta with zucchini & mozzarella could make me travel to Bali again... it was a real hit! So were the lamb chops.

Room was a bit run down, however they are renovating the hotel so chances are if you stay there the hotel will be newly done up. Cleaners did a less than fabulous job. Breakfast didn't amaze. Didn't really feel the value for money was great. The so called pool bar was absolutely 'dead', nobody there and didn't seem equipped & ready for guests... The whole place was a bit 'dead' when we were there, in fact. No minibar in room. No TV/DVD in room but there is a 'movie room' (also pretty 'dead' though).

All in all, I am really glad we stayed at this 'classic', older style hotel. It is piece of history and a lovely setting and that basically why you come to this hotel. It's location perhaps 500m from the shopping in Ubud, which I think was great. It was a bit 'pricy' considering they 'failed to deliver' on many occasions. The staff were very friendly. You get the service of a 3-4 star hotel.

Shopping Tip : Some shops off monkey forest road are really 'western' and you can find some great clothes that you haven't seen on anyone at home. Also try the fish spa on the same street - its a good fun 15 minutes.

We love the peaceful forest setting, the staff are always friendly and helpful, the swimming pools are a delight.

very few rooms have refridgerators, some furniture needs updating.

Tjampuhan is the perfect place to chill out away from the ratrace. Shuttle bus service makes it easy to get into the centre of Ubud for great resturants and shopping.Ther are lots of great walks in this area where you can meet friendly locals. This hotel has always had our rooms ready on arrival, and give you a cool towel a welcome drink and a comfortable seat to fill out check in details. We look forward to staying again.

Restaurant Tip : Indus Resturant for happy hour great views,up the hill from Tjampuhan.

An absolutely stunning location, terracing and gardening phenomenal.

Rooms minimally appointed, furnishings old and outdated. Fan speed on my a/c limited to one speed. I had to ask for the hot water heater to be turned on. During heavy morning rain, the hotel refused to supply umbrellas so that guests could access the dining room and breakfast.

I like this hotel very much, but it comes with caveats. First of all, it is expensive for what you get--and direct e-mail or fax receives no response whatever. I booked through Agoda at what I thought was an excessive price. Secondly, I suggest looking carefully before accepting any room. Mine was huge--but only partially furnished. Also, for the lame and the halt, climbs can be daunting. Located on one side of a river gorge, paths are steep and very dimly lit at night. Thirdly, this is a hotel that does things its own way. Although polite, staff are well entrenched and not particularly concerned about customer service. All that said, it is hard to imagine coming to Ubud and not staying at the Tjampuhan!

Nightlife Tip : The hotel is some distance from "city center." There is hourly shuttle service to the palace area; the downhill walk back to the hotel probably takes 20 minutes.
