the gran mahakam is like a european boutique hotel, but with good service and very friendly staff.
by indonesian standards, the staff speak very good english, and made my stay a pleasure.
i can not recommend this hotel more. i have stayed in many of the us style hotels in jakarta, but the mahakam provides all the services without the plastic.
spend a bit extra and get a bigger room, the place is good value.

Everything was smooth and service was courteous and friendly, compared to my last stay.
It would also be nice if the room key-card were not so sensitive, as I had to go to the Reception a number of times to re-configure it after it did not work.

This is the second time I stayed here. The first time I was blown away. Elegant lobby. Comfortable rooms. Excellent staff. Great location near Blok M so a short taxi ride to Senayan City, Ratu Plaza and walking distance to low-end Blok M mall and Plaza. I didn't eat at the hotel the first time, but this time we ate several meals and they were totally underwhelming and over-priced. Beware the mini-bar and other bar purchases. Three glasses of orange juice was over USD 25. They charged me USD 15 for 24 hour service and then the internet didn't work. So, if you stay here, eat outside, don't use internet or touch mini-bar and use the pool because that is probably the most unique feature of the hotel besides the location.

thoroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel. very conveniently located to shopping malls, and other appropriate attractions. rooms are very noce with very comfortable beds and good, clean bathroom facilities. swimming pool is very nice later in the afternoon and early morning.

Always a pleasure to stay at the Gran Mahakam. Great value and location. Relatively quite 5 star accomodation with friendly staff. All critical room amenities work everytime (A/C, Hot water, in room safe. Very consistent. Great 5 star Hotel selection at a three star price.
Shopping Tip:
Next to Pasaraya Shopping center and the best night life in Block M.
