Phillip C. Couples Australia, February 20, 2013	Reliable and friendly Location (for this visit) 8.3 I have been using this hotel on and off for more than eight years now. It has been through its share of ups and downs but now is due to be taken over by the Accor group and there is a palpable excitement among the staff about what lies ahead. To improve on its present standard will make it one of the top hotels in Medan. The hotel is well maintained, clean and well appointed. As always staff were helpful, efficient and friendly. There is a new bar/nightclub and the Chinese restaurant has been recently refurbished. The health club/spa is well appointed and well aptronised by the locals (a good sign). Tours can be arranged through the concierge desk but surprisingly tourism in Medan is still a growth industry so you will need to read up/research to know what to look for. Day trips to Berastagi and the orang utan sanctury are possible as well as other features in the city itself. Main shopping areas including Sun Plaza are within Rp. 50,000 taxi ride, less if you are adventurous and take a becak (motorcyle taxi). Central train station is close by and the airport (Polonia as I write) is also around 30 minutes away. Be aware that there is a new airport opening soon which will mean longer travel times between it and the city. All in all, our stay was comfortable and we were well looked after as usual. Hotel Feature Tip: Choosing accommodation can be a personal thing but as a steady base over some the Grand Angkasa has remained a reliable option and continues to provide that.
