The front desk staff was not prepared when I was checking in. I have to call my staff in Jakarta to send them Agoda's email. The rests are average for a business hotel.

I have been using this hotel on and off for more than eight years now. It has been through its share of ups and downs but now is due to be taken over by the Accor group and there is a palpable excitement among the staff about what lies ahead. To improve on its present standard will make it one of the top hotels in Medan.
The hotel is well maintained, clean and well appointed.
As always staff were helpful, efficient and friendly. There is a new bar/nightclub and the Chinese restaurant has been recently refurbished. The health club/spa is well appointed and well aptronised by the locals (a good sign).
Tours can be arranged through the concierge desk but surprisingly tourism in Medan is still a growth industry so you will need to read up/research to know what to look for. Day trips to Berastagi and the orang utan sanctury are possible as well as other features in the city itself.
Main shopping areas including Sun Plaza are within Rp. 50,000 taxi ride, less if you are adventurous and take a becak (motorcyle taxi).
Central train station is close by and the airport (Polonia as I write) is also around 30 minutes away. Be aware that there is a new airport opening soon which will mean longer travel times between it and the city.
All in all, our stay was comfortable and we were well looked after as usual.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Choosing accommodation can be a personal thing but as a steady base over some the Grand Angkasa has remained a reliable option and continues to provide that.

While the room of the hotel is huge, the facilities were run down - e.g. the swimming pool. It appears that the place has not been upkept. The breakfast was good but there are plenty of smokers around and there is no restriction of smoking in the dining areas.

i love the room so much. it was very big and clean. the wifi connection is very good. the hotel security was very tight.which is good for those who are staying there. but the buffet breakfast was very normal only. the food are all those indonesia local food.the view of the hotel was very nice.

This hotel is used to be the best hotel in Medan, but that was decades ago. time has changed. I would not recommend to stay in this hotel. with the same amount of money, you can get a better hotel.
they really need to upgrade on the room & facilities.
Restaurant Tip:
try the crystal jade at the Ground Floor.
that's one of the best Chinese restaurant in Medan.

This was my first holiday on my own, and l feel safe as l was pick up from the bandara even though l was late due to immigration problem..arriving at the hotel being help with my voucher for my room by the receptionist..very helpful with my questions later.food are good for me..maintenance and housekeeping very helpful. Thank you for making me feeling at home.

LuckilyI have a friend to take me around Medan..and we do it on beca..trishaw and the bargaining was so simple, easy and cheap..all is about bargaining..nicely and l don't open my mouth

Beautiful but tired Grand Hotel

we stayed at the grand angkasa on 11th january through 13th january. the staff were so warm and courteous. my birthday was on 12th january. although we were out the whole day and came back at about 10pm, the staff waited and surprised me with a cake.it was a genuine gesture and i felt the sincere service from them. though the room fittings were old and the shower leaking, we actually dont mind at all. the bed were very comfortable and we slept well on both nights. would be great if this hotel refurbish as the only setback is a run down "hardware". the software, i.e. the beautiful staffs are definitely a great selling point.
Travel tip:
Its best to go out for cheap and good local food nearby.Minang Food.

Everything in room come with 1 pcs only, 1 slipper, 1 toothbath, after call housekeeping also need to wait n room not clean, table still got food stain!!!
