location near to sogo, a stone throw away. excellent room with good a/c. recommended without fail and gain a few weight pounds after few days of breakfast.
resident taxi charges always double the normal charges. recommended to use the metered blue taxi minimum only at bnd per trip.
go for it...!!!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
in the city, shopping mall like sogo, medan fair & china town basar. go to the mountain at brastagi, scenic and lots of interesting vegetable market. chinese restaurant name asia serving ordinary chinese food but nothing fantastic. tasty durian on the way to mountain and no regrets.

Old Hotel keeping up to date fascilities

this is a very big hotel with a convention center attached. it is very quiet and peaceful. it is close to all amenities and i did my last minute shopping only 2 km away.
international buffet dinner is excellent and the waiters and chefs are very friendly.
the only problem i had is the adaptor to recharge my notebooks and mobile phones. otherwise this is a very good hotel for its price

Restaurant Tip:
Try the local food at famous'Wong Solo'restaurant and shopping at Carrefore shopping centre for local products.

A more local hotel

i stayed there because i would arrive medan near midnight & it said it had airport transfer service. i requested for airport transfer before arrival by e-mail but did not get any reply. finally, i got a pick-up to the hotel by the relatives of the flight passenger sitting next to me because i could not speak indonesian. then, when i checked in, the hotel staff said they had sent someone to pick me up at the airport. during my two-night stay, more wrong arrangements ... i still enjoyed a short stay there to refresh myself before my long journey in indonesia, with minimal activities, due to communications problem.

A little worn down on the outside - but a true gem
Great level of service. Good for transfer or long time stay in Medan.

Nice and smiling staff. You feel welcome and cared for. The pool is located a little strange but its nice and quite there, and there was no people using it except for us. Generally the outside of the hotel building was a little worn down, but we noticed that they were actually freshing up the tennis-court while we were there - so a little paint here and there and the hotel would look as good on the outside as it truly is on the inside. Staff was sweet and very helpful in all matters.
Great breakfast - good variety.
Short distance to Polonia Airport.
Shopping Tip:
The best known shopping mall in Medan, Sun Plaza, is only a five minute walk from the hotel.

We love our stay at Tiara hotel..comfort and cozy, the staffs are very helpful also..
But, the room and building is rather old..perhaps they can do a little renovation :)

by western standards this is a 2 star hotel

This hotel is of a grade 2 star at the most. Needs a complete make over. I was not impressed, except by the staff who were excellent. As it seems to be serving the city for a long time
I have to say I found Medan a dirty uninviting city and would not be visiting again.
