Gardens, Smaller Indonesian style buildings, pool and sun deck right at the beach. Bar and restaurant with water views. Friendly staff. The special BBQ for two on the beach. Cooking class.

Room cleaners did not empty the bins on one occasion (minor issue). The basic rooms did not have an outdoor balcony or garden. There was not an outdoor area to hang swim suits, towels or wet clothes to dry. They did offer a small 'ladder' to put outside the front door for hanging clothes which was 'sufficient'. Snorkeling trips were over priced at the hotel - as part of the diving trips. Boat trips including a trip to the island with snorkeling on a casual time frame were not offered from the hotel. The resort is some distance from Manado and they need to give the taxi drivers a small map or leaflet showing the quickest way to get to the hotel from Manado or from surrounding areas such as Thalassa dive school. On one occasion a trip from a nearby location back to the hotel took an hour in heavy traffic - when there was a short cut which could have taken 20 minutes.

The Manado area is not overly affected by Western tourism and has a relaxing feel in addition to being known as a diving area. The Kima Baju Resort is located some distance from Manado and is a peaceful 'boutique' style garden resort without large concrete buildings. The resort is located on a steep slope down to the water's edge with excellent garden views in the accommodation area and water views from the restaurant area. There are larger more expensive cabins which appear to have most of the necessary features. The base level accommodation is attractive but not overly spacious and does not have an outdoor balcony or outdoor bathroom - so not great value for money based only on the room. By Indonesian standards, the Kima Baju Resort and one or two other resorts in the Manado area are not the best value for money and would be expensive for a longer stay. Acceptable lower cost Indonesian style accommodation is most likely available in the Manado area. The food at the restaurant was not overpriced for a resort and included the local dishes - although not a large selection. There is an option to pre-purchase 'full-board' which includes buffet meals but it appeared that it would be less expensive for most people to 'pay as they use'. The buffet meals appeared to be biased towards 'Western Style' food and not as attractive to some people as the Indonesian style dishes on offer from the A La Carte menue. On request, the resort offers a cooking class which results in very nice local food to eat afterwards. They also offer a personal seafood BBQ which can be served at a table on the beach and this is highly recommended. Overall, the Kima Baju is a very pleasant resort to spend relaxing days viewing the ocean and enjoying the tropical weather. The staff are friendly and it does not have the large 'concrete' resort feel that some resorts have.

Travel tip : Book ahead for dive classes. However, if the dive classes at Kima Baju are booked out then nearby is Santika Hotel with an independent dive school on location - called Thalassa Dive Centre. This dive school is good value, has good facilities and offers a pleasant overall experience.

The room, the restaurant at the beach, the pool; everything was very good. I especially like the beachside pool, which looks over the seneric view of the sea and islands.

None

The staff performance is excellent. The food at the restaurant is also very good. The room os clean and comfortable. Everything at the hotel is rather pricy, but it is worth visiting.
