Silintong Hotel, Sumatra Selatan (South Sumatra)

My wife and I lived in the Lake Toba area for 3 years prior to this return visit to see old friends for 3 days in September 2008. We had stayed at the Silintong previously and had enjoyed it so booked for this visit as well. The hotel has a beautiful setting on Lake Toba with a lovingly tended garden between the hotel and the water. Previously we enjoyed swimming off the sandy beach but this time the bay was choked with lake plants that had floated in with the breeze. While the staff cleared out the bay we enjoyed our swim off the stone wall instead. Our room was not fancy but was large enough and comfortable with a small patio opening out to the garden. The walls were very thin and a few times we were startled at a voice, thinking our neighbors or the staff had entered our room!
