nice hotel n good location n will come again but the people start smoking on the front desk since it was inside the building. the staff should warn the people not to smoke inside the hotel. i guess it's ok to smoke inside the hotel

The Elmi hotel was confortable, though getting old. It is convenniently located close to the train station, which was good for us as we were only transiting in Surabaya.
The hotel is mainly dedicated to business trips and there is no shops or markets close by.

I only stayed there for two nights. The bad thing was that I couldn't check in at 5 am and had to sleep and wait in the lobby because the hotel was full. But they managed to arrange a room for me before the check in time. The room was nice and clean but smelly because of cigarette smoke. I had difficulties the first day to open the door with the card so I had to call the staff. They have a very nice pool and great breakfast buffet. Airport transfer is not included but they arrange cheap taxis for you and they are on time. There is a big street in front of the hotel which might be difficult for you to cross if you haven't been to Indonesia yet - no traffic lights, no cross walk.
Shopping Tip:
There is a shopping center close by. Just 5 minutes walk.

Nothing spectacular. Lousy key card.

Had trouble with the room key, which is a plastic card with holes. Location wise, there's nothing within walking distance. Stay elsewhere if this is a leisure trip. There's like 5 or 6 ash trays in the room, they must have got them really cheap. The food is quite atrocious. Nasi goreng (fried rice) was too oily and tasteless. Tempe penyet was cold, and the accompanying sambal (dipping sauce/condiment) was just sub par compared to what I had in Jogja.
