Beautiful Sarkies Brother Hotel
Historic, lovely and evocative of the 1930s
8.7
This is an amazing hotel -- built by the Sarkies brothers who also built Raffles in Singapore. It has gone through several owners, and while still lovely with impeccable service, is currently in the midst of a renovation. The only down side is that its cool, dark hallways and beautiful gardens often lead to a problem with mosquitoes in the rooms, so it's worth stopping off for a can of bug spray before you check in.
Hotel Feature Tip:
The spa is excellent and quite affordable -- much less expensive than other 5-star hotel options.

Lovely hotel, but construction was a problem
7.3
the hotel was great, very similar to raffles hotel in singapore. location is very convenient, near shopping complexes and other hotels. the staff was friendly, helping us with the sightseeing. we came late for breakfast twice and both times they let us eat in peace, waiting for at least 15-20 mins before even telling us that the buffet is closed. the ongoing renovation at the hotel and the ensuing noise and workers around did destroy the peace. also, they have different sizes for the same types of rooms and we were given a smaller one earlier. i just happened to notice some other rooms and enquired - they were the same type as ours. when we asked to be moved to the bigger one, they took a lot of time. but once we moved, everything was fine. overall, a good hotel.

Very charming hotel in a most convenient location
Ambiance of the hotel, the colonial feeling, friendly staff, generous rooms
7.7
after many times in surabaya in different hotels i finally stayed at majapahit and was really overwhelmed. the rooms are generously large, the staff have a high level of skills, the atmosphere was very nice, facilities just perfect.
location: shopping is just around the corner with numerous dining opportunities.
will definitely stay at majapahit again.

Great decoration, not too much or too less
5.7
i loved the decoration and colonial building. the room was spacey but no alarm clock in my room. the breakfast lines were very limited and tasted too plain. but over all i guess it's one of a few good hotels in surabaya.

Beautiful - One of the best hotels I have stayed
An oasis- a very beautiful, historic hotel. Good food, great coffee, great staff, not expensive, hotel food far better than most hotels.
10
the majapahit is an oasis in a hot humid busy city. the architecture and gardens are beautiful. the rooms are very large and in the old classic style with classic style furniture. the bathroom is beautiful with old tiles, beautiful fittings, just luxurious.
the staff were great. the coffee at the coffee shop is one of the best coffees i have had anywhere. the food in teh restaurant was reasonably priced and good quality - i rarely eat in hotels but i was happy to eat at majapahit restaurants. breakfast buffet was great. and prices for food etc and the room were not expensive.
in all this was one of the best hotels i have ever stayed in anywhere in the world for an overall experience.
Shopping Tip:
Tanjunang Plaza is nearby, and in the other direction to the right on a side street is a large local market.

Beautiful and historical hotel
Well preserved, beautiful colonial style architecture, strategic location and great service
9.7
we stayed couple of nights in this hotel and definitely will come back if we get chance.
this hotel is aged more than 100 years old and it is still amazingly well preserved. the external architecture is still as it is 'old colonial type' building. they even keep the historical flag pole from 1945. the lobby interior designed with indonesia's historical picture and art pieces. it is so classic and very much informative.
the room is spacious with classic interior designs which make it very unique. it is facing the garden and it has private balcony. the garden is beautiful and the spa is awesome.
it is just 100 m from surabaya's biggest shopping center and food court. you can easily go there by foot.
the concierge helps us a lot on our tour itinerary. we rent a hotel car with a very reasonable price/12 hrs including fuel and driver. we took a city tour and the driver is very much helpful and nice. they also provide a private tour if you want to go out of town to visit kawah ijen or bromo.
in short, this hotel is highly recommended.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Kawah Ijen, Bromo, House of Sampoerna are must see places if you visit East Java.

Comfortable room with great gardens.
Old but reasonably well maintained.
8.7
Other than the mosquitoes that flocked the lobby seating area and a few in the room, the rest were just great. We loved the breakfast which was a mix of west and east and great service too.
The Chinese Seafood restaurant needed renewal, redesign and renovation as there was no appeal. We got turned off with the appearance actually, and left to dine out.In all, we had a great 3 nights stay. We would return to this hotel again.
Hotel Feature Tip:
Great hotel for couples.

Charming hotel an oasis of tranquility
good location, charming colonial hotel with nice sized rooms and lovely swimming pool
9.3
Stayed at the Majapahit for 2 nights recently and had a lovely stay, Staff were charming and the spa /pool area was an oasis of tranquility. Food and restaurant should be upgraded as I did not think it was up to the same standard as the hotel. Have just booked to return end of November
