Good location as the Hotel is situated just outside the busy and noisy shopping area.I was allocated rooms facing the North. Excellent view of Merapi Vocalno in the morning. Could see smoke coming out from its crater. Clean bed sheets and room. Breakfast spread reasonably good. Hotel staff were courteous and provide good service. Counter staff spoke good English and were helpful and friendly. I like the plentiful greenery.
Despite turning on the CLEAN THE ROOM lights, staff generally don't do it until you are in the room just that they could get some tips from you. How about a TIP BOX in the room so that we can be left alone?
The Hotel is sited in near proximity to two Mosques. Early morning prayer over the loud speakers is a very good "wake-up" calls for you if you plan to see the sunrise of Borobudur
Generally a well managed Hotel with friendly and courtous staff. One plus point is the counter staff able to speak fluent English.
The location is excellent, being not very far from the Airport (By Taxi 32000rp). Walking distance to the Town Centre. However, being situated beside two mosques, you have to be contented with the "Noise Pollution" if the daily early morning preaching is not music to your ears. Generally, good value for money if you are not too fussy.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Visits to their world renounced Temples are rather expensive. Entrance fees of $US11 to $US12 for foreigners for each Temples. Their locals only pay about 12,000rp(about $US1.5) not so fair. Do not visit the Temple during mid June to mid July as it is their School Holidays. Unless you want to experience the "SARDINE FISH IN THE CAN"

The hotel has an excellent location off busy Malioboro street and my request for a quiet rooom after a noisy two nights at the Grand Prehanger in Bandung was thankfully accomodated as was my request for the duvet to be replaced by sheets. I cannot sleeep beneath duvets. The room was large and pleasing as was the bathroom although the shower was in the bath. And there was plenty of storage space.
The swimming pool area was a tranquil spot although the pool itself is not desiged for serious swimming. After a busy day visting the temples or the Kraton area it would have been nice to relax for a while in the pool but that luxury was denied me because the pool closes at 6pm. Hotel pools should and generally do remain open far later than that. I only made it back to the pool before it closed on 3 out of my 4 days during my stay
The staff were very pleasant and helpful and none more so than manager Agung who was of great assistance helping me to negotiate a long distance taxi firstly to Bromo and then on to Surabaya.
Breafast was satisfactory as was the one evening meal I took there
Travel tip : If you are a golfer do play Merapi and best to go early to avoid the rain - even in the dry season

Fantastic location in central Jogyakarta, walking distance to many main attractions. Nice pool area and comfortable rooms, friendly staff.
No WIFI connection in rooms. If you travel without a computer and have a smart phone you can't access the internet.
Very nice, centrally located hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Overall the hotel was clean, the rooms comfortable but the tv channels were limited & rather lacking in variety. Gardens and pool area were well designed & maintained.
When the business center is closed there is a common room called The Level with only one computer at Rps 33,000 (about US$3.30) for half hour of internet access (very expensive when I've stayed at other lesser hotels offering 24 hours of WIFI for around Rps 60,000 0r $6 US). There is internet access in the rooms but no WIFI around the hotel, so if you have a smart phone and not a laptop with you, you have to leave your room and go either to the business center or The Level common room where there is no privacy and a TV is also on in the background.
Breakfast was abundant but the tea and coffee were not very nice and the fruit juices were not fresh (the orange juice was a chemical juice and not even made from concentrate).
All together it's a lovely hotel, but probably not geared toward families with young children as I don't think the TV had even one children's channel and I didn't notice a play area (apart from the pool) for children. Most of the guests were either Japanese tour group or business people.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Don't bother with the Tourist Information Office in Jalan Malioboro, because they didn't know anything. We got better information from friendly passersby in the street.
NOVI Arts Center is the best place to buy hand painted Batik wall art at reasonable prices, ask for Mas Topo and try for at least 20% discount if buying more than one piece.
Batik factories have good process display but often exorbitant prices on all their goods.
Ask any bicycle taxi to take you to the Archeological Museum's puppet maker's house, where you can see puppet made and buy them for less than at the museum (still not cheap!!). Bicycle taxi's cost about 3,000 rps for locals so if they ask for more just walk away.
If you go to see the Water Palace, expect a DIY guide (usually one of the people hanging around the bird market) who will stick to you until you give in and let them lead you through the labyrinth to the Water Palace but expect to pay a tip at the end of the "tour".
BEWARE!!! AVIAN FLU OUTBREAK AT BIRD MARKET APRIL 2009, 2 CASES. Also don't go there if you love animals; you'll be sick to the stomach seeing skinned rabbits, bats and baby owls, sad little monkeys with their claws torn off and live chickens sitting in terrariums waiting for snakes to eat them... to name a few.

Great location in city centre.
Very helpful and friendly staff.
Good facilities including travel agent in shopping area.
Great spa and massage options.
Room was fine but a little outdated and could have done with some minor redecoration.
The Melia Purosani was positioned as a 5* hotel and the public facilities are very good but the rooms are a little outdated, I would rate this as 3/4 *. No issues during our stay, the hotel is a good base for local attractions, was clean, staff were friendly and spa and hotel very good. Would recommend this hotel, the price was was very good value.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : This is a great place to use as a base for visiting the city centre and most importantly Prambanan (30 minutes away) and Borobudur (50 minutes away).

Located on the edge of Malioboro, it's situated perfectly. The room quality was quite good.
The staff...every interaction with the staff, from check in, to room service, to bell boys or even trying to get a password to use broadband was slow and painful.
Driving up to the hotel I was quite pleased ... right on the edge of Malioboro, and quite nice looking.
Check in ... there were 3 people working the desk, and maybe 5 parties checking in. It took almost 20 min.
The room itself is large and clean...the view is wonderful (of the garden). The bathroom is enormous with plenty of mirror space.
Trying to access broadband was a pain. I called downstairs to get a password ... it took forever for the front desk to answer and then I go disconnected. I tried calling again and no answer...I finally gave up. Later, when leaving the hotel for dinner I asked about an internet password and was told to ask the business center on the 1st floor. On my way back from dinner the business center was closed and nobody else knew where to get a broadband password.
A few other mixups with the staff, marred what was otherwise a very high quality establishment. I still highly recommend the Melia, but suggest you bring lots of patience with you.

Good location. Few minutes walk from main street, and not noisy.
Interior is a little old. Breakfast is average level.
For those who want to enjoy comfortable stay, this hotel is suitable.

breakfast (variety - quality)
room (space - comfort - TV channels)
swimming pool (beautiful - big)
staff (welcoming - smiling)
bath accessories (tooth brush & paste - soap...)
juices (not fresh juices)
It has been a great pleasure to stay at the Melia Purosani Hotel Yogyakarta. The (included) breakfast, a buffet, offers both quality and variety ; rooms are comfortable, wide, they offer a large choice of TV channels and many accessories are available and replaced everyday (especially tooth brush & paste).
The swimming pool is artistic and magnificent, with statues.
We also thank the staff for being smiling and welcoming.
Shopping Tip : You should negotiate for less than half the price people in the street want you to pay.

Location, inner garden and pool area
Rooms on street side are noisy
Melia Purosani in Yogjakarta is a very good hotel, in a winning location just minutes away from the central Malioboro. Rooms are big, and personnel is very nice and efficient. Just ask for a room facing the garden, to avoid the street noise.
The pool is very nice, and is located in a stunning garden - very relaxing. Breakfast is good.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Near Malioboro there are plenty of travel agencies organizing minivan trips, which are extremely good value for money. Try out the trips to Brobobudur and Prambanan temples (can be combined in an efficient, one-day trip). The trip to Bromo volcano is highly recommended for the truly stunning views, but it requires a 10-hour minivan trip - which is interesting but tiring. Otherwise you can go to Surabaya by train, and then have a 3-hour minivan trip to Bromo.

When you are checking in the hotel, make sure they do not allocate room 335 to you. It faces the major intersection, but more importantly, it has a suspect sofa which may need exorcising. We requested for a room change the very next morning.

The beautiful garden and swimming pool
The traffic noise, which unfortunately does not prevent, because we wanted a smoking room that is unfortunately only for the street is located.
Especially liked us very accurate accounting of the tour to Borobudur and other objectives that we in the course of the trip have changed. in the settlement were then actually only the places that we actually visited, what is actually a matter of course, but not always handled in this case, it was so and so was the bill much less than previously agreed. very pleasing and accurate.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Beautiful centrally located to visit the Sultan's Palace, good for trip to Borobudur
