Excellent service, great location.
Walls are a bit thin if neighbors are loud.
The Phoenix Hotel is a lovely place to stay in Yogyakarta. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel can arrange tours and drivers, which makes it easy to see the sights. Hotel is clean with a great restaurant and gift shop and the rooms are spacious. Getting into town is easy by foot and transport (bicycle tuk tuk) is right in front of the hotel.
Travel tip : The 4 a.m. trip to Borobudur is totally worth it.

Low inventory: Ran out of towels!
The Phoenix hotel is capable of enhancing the cultural feel of going to and staying in Jogjakarta. The hotel helps to give the emphasis or nuances of the mixed heritage colonial and javanese culture through elements of the exterior / building and the interior. I must say, it is a different feel of stay. Not only the look and feel, but also the staff and employees are showing the genuine hospitability that made me feel so much welcomed and also at home, away from home.

It is a very elegant colonial hotel which is well renovated. The staff provide wonderful service.
My room was just in front of the swimming pool and it was difficult to get sleep with kids screaming at 7 am in the morning.

Friendly staff, excellent atmosphere, beautiful
Although there are becaks and taxis outside the hotel, but there are not much things within 10mins walking distance
We were welcomed by friendly staff and greeted by them any time any where. The reception area is small however it is very beautiful. the restaurant is excellent, we were there for both breakfast and dinner, the atmosphere was excellent. with great pianist for the dinner and great traditional musical instrument for breakfast. Room was great with big balcony and looking over the Swimming pool. This is a great place especially for Honeymooner. Highly recommended
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Check out the shanty houses at the Code river bank, just 2 mins walk from the Hotel. It's very beautiful during sunset and its nice and peaceful to see children playing in the afternoon.

- Lovely rooms very well decorated and very clean
- Kind staff, very friendly
- Nice pool in the middle of the hotel
- Much better than all other hotels we have seen for the same price
- Situation a bit away from Malioboro and center but 5 min taxi makes it
- Food quite expensive compared to local prices
We enjoyed our stay at Phoenix very much. The rooms were very clean and nicely decorated. The staff was present, kind and useful. We loved the way the hotel was decorated. The breakfast was expensive for the quality we get although the choice is huge. Interior is stylish but stays in a Balinese style. Services proposed by the hotel are more expensive than what you could get from local services such as car rental or tour organisation. I would definitely recommand this hotel to a friend and would advise you go for holiday or business.

The hotel is beautiful, staff were all very pleasant, the food was great too and they even serve jamu during breakfast. We booked a full day tour from the hotel and the car and driver was excellent as one of my priority is safety. The spa within the hotel was really good too. value for money.Mac Donald is about less than 10 mins walk, pizza hut around 5 mins and there is a lovely peranakan cuisine reataurant opposite the hotel. To us...we had a good, non expensive but close to ulitmate luxury kinda of holiday there.
A bit further off from malioboro which we had to use wither a taxi or the beca... but then again we didnt really want to stay at malioboro...
We strongly recommend our other friens to book via agoda as it gives us a piece of mind as we know agoda is really reliable.we had a good, non expensive but close to ulitmate luxury kinda of holiday in yogyakarta and would not mind going there again...
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The hotel provides tours around yogyakarta main attractions and i would say they use good quality vehicles, competent n knowledgable drivers. This is very assuring for us. well done

Slow service in restaurant
The hotel is in a handy location, with bemos handy outside, and the attractions of Yogya close by. A nice modern hotel, though the pool was very busy - a bit small for the number of rooms. Only other down side was the exceptionally slow service for an evening meal - out of step with the other service that we received from the hotel staff

- Love the european style interiors
- huge spacious hotel
- great food in the bar & restaarant
- centrally located
-lovely staff
- maybe pool could be bigger
Fantastic stay overall; however always ask for a poolside room since the other side room is bad view overlooking slums . Otherwise great value for money & nice place to stay.
Restaurant Tip : Pizza hut located next doors. Very nice

Impressive architecture design with beautiful stain glass especially at night.
Interior decor with fine and artistic art piece at every corner. Hotel staffs are very friendly and helpful.
If standard room equip with super single bed size, it will be perfect.
We were having a pleasant and wonderful stay in this hotel even just for 2 days 1 night. Their service is excellent. Malioboro street is just 10 - 15 mins walk from hotel but alternatively you can choose to go by hotel taxi which is charge by meter. To reach Malioboro street will just cost you less than 10,000 rupiah. Hotel airport transfer charges is reasonable too. We love to come back again and for sure will recommend this hotel to our friends and relatives.

Nice, comfortable, clean, good location, good meals, not too big, nice staff
Every Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. a gym next door "bull horns" its program into your head for 30 minutes. It finally stops - but not very amusing.
The Phoenix was a very welcoming and easy place to stay with a lovely though relatively small room (and very small bathroom). Finishings were fine. The breakfast buffet was good. I found the buffet area (all open area) warmer than I would have preferred. There was a partly A/C area available but the staff kept all the doors open so any cooling effect was negated. The front staff were helpful at arranging tours. The pool seemed small but nice; I didn't use it.

Absolutely stunning hotel, with all interior decor done if a beautiful way and well coordinated, the room is lovely, jawanese marble floor all around the corridor and the room, the bathroom, lovely stained glass in the main area of the hotel, lovely breakfast area, its a wonderful hotel, you could feel in any country which recognize art and craft movement, one you inside the hotel, you think you are not in Yogya, but thepeople charm food absolutely indonesian, so you know you are in Indonesia.
There is not really cons for the hotel, it's just the city is very messy, other than the hotel is one of the best hotel in the world to stay for the price.
I love this hotel, I will come back with my husband and visit borobodur temple, dieng temple, prambanan temple, since this stay I was on business trip. Fantastic hotel to stay, its quite grand hotel with old romantic feeling of art and craft hotel movement interior.,
Travel tip : You could ride a becak first think in the morning, and enjoy the sunrise for short ride its quite pleasant....on the malioboro street.Where the old dutch building was nice view to see, make you think what if Indonesia was not this conjested and has better infrastructure, it could be one of the wonderful place to leave in the world.

Compared to other big hotels in Yogya, this one offer value for money. The decor is grand, food is good. I should have eat here instead of searching elsewhere and get ripped off. Unfortunately I only discovered this towards the end of my stay. Staff is helpful and friendly, although one of them did gave us the wrong direction.
Toilet glass partition is not very well built, I can't take a shower without wetting the floor outside.
Don't be turned away by the hefty taxi price they display over the counter. If you ask, you'll see that their price is not that costly (almost on par with what is quoted outside). However, taxis and becaks are readily available outside too. Pool is small though.
Travel tip : Taxis and becaks will tend to charge you more when they know that you are staying in this hotel. Do bargain. A 10 minutes becak ride to malioboro only cost about 10k, not 30k. If your taxi is using a meter, you should be fine.

Nicely decorated, warm and helpful reception, great location
My group of five really loved the hotel. It has beautiful decorations and the staff was really friendly and treated us like VIPs. It was also walking distance to Malioboro Street which made the location so convenient. We especially enjoyed the Bebek Goreng (fried duck) at Pak Selamat near the hotel and the Kepiting (crabs). The nasi padang across the street was also first class. Overall, thumbs up for Phoenix!!
