It is very colonial style, very beautiful, the staff are helpful.

No bathtub in the deluxe room I stayed.

I booked for 3 nights, for a standard room but was upgraded to deluxe room. The room was facing swimming pool at the highest floor. It was very very beautiful. In the room, there are some salak fruits and some sweets, which is a nice gesture. The channels available on TV, i remembered was close to 20 channels, quite a variety. This hotel is located abt few blocks away from the main street of Malioboro. We usually take the becak (trishaw) from the junction opposite the hotel, for abt 5000 rupiah. You could bargain for less. There are also hotel's becak which cost more which we took once for 20000 rupiah for a round trip. If you enjoy walking, it will take about 10 to 15 min walk. There are some stalls which sell very good seafood on the way, you should really give it a try. In fact, we went twice for seafood dinner, and the crabs, fish and prawns are really nice. The price are very reasonable. Choose one that has many customers, the food are usually nicer. I had a great time in Yogya.

Shopping Tip : Bargain for all items, be it clothing, or becak, transport to sightseeing.. must bargain

Really an excellent colonial hotel! Warm hospitality and staffs are well-trained & customer-focused. Nice decoration; Best location and only walking distance to Malioboro area! Unbeatable price for tourists - super-valued!

Location in city centre, Homely feel inspite of 68 rooms, History, contemporary interiors, Great Food, Free wi-fi.

Noisy Poolside late parties, Noisy corridors because they are uncarpeted, Lack of options in dining AMBIENCE.

Phoenix makes you feel like you own the place. Completely the opposite of a big-chain property but with all the amenities located within in an informal layout, almost personalised art and design features like the crooked staircase in the pool-side block. A super start every morning with a breakfast spread so lavish it made you wish you could have it all day. But then how would you come back for the exquisite friday seafood bar-be-que in the courtyard! And the staff have been imported from Paradise.

Restaurant Tip : Though food at the Phoenix is invariably good, you get tired of sitting in the same place everyday for breakfast and dinner. So just step out for a host of options from fine dining to Pizza to robust street food within a 5 minute walk.

good rates, beautiful, comfortable

a bit far from main attraction

The rate i booked was without breakfast. But it is always safe to book ahead in agoda. The hotel is very colonial style, very nicely decorated. I took a lot of pictures of the hotel, by the pool, garden, fountain etc.. You will simply love it. The hotel is not very near to Malioboro, but it is within walking distance. We walk once coming back from Malioboro, after being frustated by the becak people, who are always wanted to con you to pay more. They usually say it is only 3000 rupiah, but once you are on it, they will say it is very far and need 20000 rupiah instead. So becareful. bargain and try to find a genuine becak guy.

Restaurant Tip : Lesehan dining is nice, give it a try.

Nice Room & Toilet Excellent Staff Beautiful boutique style hotel . . . with excellent architectural features dating back to the Dutch colonial era Good gym

Parking space is limited Check-in is a little slow

A nice hotel to stay in while in Yogya. Centrally located, it is a short drive away from the malls in Yogya - Ambarukmo & Galleria; Malioboro & the Kraton. Rooms are well appointed & the bathroom is excellent. Nice balcony & view ( pool facing ). The gym was great & not too busy. Pool was a bit small but understandable as it is a boutique hotel. Staff was friendly & service is good. Enjoyed our stay there & will definitely return. I recommend anyone to stay at the Phoenix Hotel . . . excellent value for money.

The old world feel, helpful staff, the nice balcony overlooking the pool

the dining is overpriced

We had a comfortable stay and were well looked after, the housekeeping is prompt and responsive. The sauna is nice, the pool though is a bit small and supposedly closes at 1800 Hrs, the time we would be getting back after our daily wanderings. The food and transport provided at the hotel are exorbitantly priced. The balcony overlooking the pool is a nice touch, though for some reason only a single chair is provided which is a bit inconvenient. Overall a great place to stay especially for the rates on offer.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : In Jogja don't miss the excellent Ramayna ballet, the frontdesk can have seats blocked for you...

beautiful poolside scenary, romantic setting, and old world charm of old dutch mansion, food quality and service is ok, but not great- probably not hotel's fault, that could be just cultural difference. indonesia food is just not to our taste.

poor bathroom inside. the sink counter top is too tiny to put any personal ammenity on. the toilet and shower room are too old and run down. the lighting in the room is not sufficient, if i try to do a little reading but i can't end up falling aleep quickly, because it is so dim. hotel should also ban people smoking indoors.

the concierge and reception are nice. service are nice, although the restaurant people could be more pro-active, like cleaning up the table after dishes are finished, not waiting until guest leaves. the outdoor setting of the hotel is great, it earns brownie points for the hotel. and i hope people don't smoke in lobby, restaurant, and all indoor areas.

beautiful architecture and rooms, comfortable, very clean rooms, staff very friendly and nice, restaurant is excellent

not enough chairs by the pool, bfast not included, no free internet

This hotel was absolutely wonderful. The staff greeted us with a welcome drink and a cold refreshing towel. We got a free upgrade which was nice. The hotel itself is really beautiful and if you've been to the Raffles in Singapore it's very similar but Hotel Phoenix's price is amazing! The hotel restaurant is excellent but definitely expect to pay for it. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Staff is very friendly. We took a room with balcony in the inside pool area and that was great. The breakfast spread was good. The hotel spa was lovely and masseur well trained.

Hotel is a bit jaded and old. Its not too near to shopping district and we missed out Rumah Mode and Donnatello and I heard Vincci furniture. Hotel pool also small.

For the money spent we cannot complain about the holiday. Altho not an exceptional stay, it was good as the hotel was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. The restaurant 3 Nyonya across the road from the hotel was good for lunch and dinners. Very cheap and good food. I would try another hotel if I go back again as I like modern hotels. Overall a pleasant and restful holiday. The people in Jogya are friendly and are very happy especially if you speak Bahasa Indonesia. Must try the lunch at the padi fields, Honey grilled shrimps and fish. Wonderful.

Restaurant Tip : Try the Lunch in the padi fields. At night there is the Ramayana Dance, seafood. Restaurant across the road, Tiga Nyonya is good for chinese food and cheap.

Hotel room has a balcony with table and chairs.

Toothbrush was really bad because its hair came out and mouth became full of hair of the toothbrush.

My mom reached her birthday during the stay and I found a birthday cake in the room when we came back, though we did not tell staffs her birthday. She was very happy. Every time I saw a staff on the hallway, he or she smiled. Food is expensive, but dinner buffet is good.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You can book Dinner & Ramayana Ballet Performance with transportation service at the hotel. You can also book half day or one day tour to Borobudur or Prambanan, but they are a little expensive.

Newly renovated colonial style hotel. A miniature version of Raffels Hotel in Singapore. The staff is extremely helpful and attentive. Very clean and charming.

The pool is a bit small and is crowded at peak time.

I highly recommend this hotel for its value, charm and the professional staff. The hotel definitely has character with an interesting history. There is an inner courtyard with fountain, beautiful corriders, poi pond and antique furniture throughout the hotel. Absolutely charming decor!

Shopping Tip : Hire a tut tut and go shopping at the Marlioboro Mall.

Location is good, design and cleanliness of surroundings, as well as the facilities are nice. Staff is very friendly... but! Oh yeah, the manager did send me a fruit basket for my "troubles", which was nice.

If the cook is going to offer food from other countries, then he should find out how "that" food should be prepared, or not "call it" the same thing... ie: Quesadilla is Mexican, and has the lettuce and salsa "outside", not inside, making it sloppy and runny. The rest of the food, was good.

If you are going to be a five star hotel, then you need to come up to the standards of a five star hotel. When a guest asks for a "second key", because there are two people, it should not take two requests, and two days, plus a talk with the manager, to get it taken care of. When you ask to have the complimentary "tea bags" refilled, you shouldn't have to get them yourself, off the cart because no one responds. When they clean the room, it should be "fully" refreshed, like the bathroom mirror cleaned, or the dirty dishes taken away. Speaking of dirty dishes, I called at 11:00 pm to have my tray removed, and then went out, and when I returned at 2 am, it was still there?! A five star hotel should also offer five star Internet service. I was unable to use my computer for much of my stay, with little to no connection or speed, and even the ones in the business center were very slow. While sitting with the manager in the lobby, I also pointed out that a 5 Star Hotel also does not have dirty ashtrays, or ashes/dirt on the lobby glass table and floors.
