The hotel is in Canal City, so it's so convenient to find food, shopping, etc. Room is good

some staff cannot speak in English so we had problem to communicate. Access from the central station

We arrive In Fukuoka central station and then go to the hotel using Bus no 6.1 if I remember it correctly. But I need to walk about 300m to the hotel. The room is nice, we had problem with the internet connection in the room and asked for assistance, but since they don't have technician that can speak English so I think they asked someone else to help us to solve the problem through the telephone. We stayed there for 3 days and 2 nights, and the weather was not good, it was raining on the second day, but since the hotel located in Canal City shopping center, we still do some stuff like shopping and find some food without getting wet. The hotel is good, but the access from the central station is not too convenient for traveler with luggage. We went from the hotel to station by walking about 15 mins because there is no direct bus access to the station.

The hotel was clean and very conveniently located. For the price of the single room I was in, it was what I expected. You can walk pretty much anywhere and the train stations were a short walk away.

The single room was a bit small but it was clean and really for the price it was a good deal.

The hotel was clean and the staff was accommodating. The front desk knew enough English to get me checked in and checked out :) I didn't have a chance to look at the double or triple rooms, which had a better view. The singles all face the center of Canal City and the Hyatt hotel. The positives were vicinity to the mall and to the city. We easily walked to Tenjin and there were several local shrines and temples in the vicinity that made a nice day of roaming around the city. Cabs are plentiful in Fukuoka and you can easily catch one right outside of the Hotel. I didn't try the restaurants in the hotel, but they looked good.

Restaurant Tip : Definitely try the Yattai located along the river. I had dinner with a friend and found the experience to be very cool. The food was pretty decent. Also, some restaurants might be difficult to find ... we went to dinner one night and we walked around for a while before we found the place ... and we had a map and address :)

Provided us with 3 single beds when we hadn't requested anything specific, we were on the smoking floor but didn't really care. Bathroom also has a heated mirror! Internet is free and decently quick (by japanese standards).

The pillows. To put it simply they aren't your regular fluffy pillows they are filled with what seems like uncooked rice. While we all still slept like a log any person who sleeps lightly will probably wake up each time they move their head.

After a bit of a struggle to find the hotel (we followed the first location shown on google maps, bad idea) we eventually found it where you would expect it, right on top of the Canal City Shopping complex. The position makes it a perfect vantage point into the more traditional side of Fukuoka which was exactly what we were after. Staff were friendly and while there was little english there was plenty to get checked in and and out again 2 days later, what more do you need?

Restaurant Tip : On the lowest floor of the shopping complex near the fountains there is a little black Ramen place. It's noticable as the vending machine (and ramen ordering sheet) is in english and Japanese. Through our travels we found no other ramen place which could match. It is simply devine. Also for beer drinkers while there make sure to get a beer with the Ramen, its the Suntory Malt from tap, its fantastic.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and quiet.

No breakfast provided with my room - although it was fun having breakfast out on the street

I stayed at the Canal City for 3 nights. The location is excellent with easy access to ATM's, resaurants and buses. There is a looping bus which travels into Tenjin every 10 minutes - (will stop in front of the train station). It will cost 100 YEN - it was quite easy. Cross the road from the train station to catch it back to Canal City. It won't take you to where you originally got on but it is still very close - stop number 4. The room was a little small but no complaints from me. The bed was comfortable and the showers hot. I would recommend staying here whithout hesitation. I found there wasn't a great deal of english spoken around Fukuoka so bring your hand book - most are willing to help - it's a good adventure

Nightlife Tip : As you exit the hotel, turn left and then left again. You will see, on the opposite side of the street a cool little english pub. A good heart starter. Check it out.

location, cleanliness

None

The location of this hotel is great! Right next to Canal City. The price is also great for what you get. Overall the hotel was very clean, though even on the nonsmoking floors the scent still lingered a bit. We stayed on the 12th floor in a two-bed room and had an amazing view of the city. The staff was friendly and helpful and their English was very good.

Great location close to every major attraction and transportation. Friendly staff, clean rooms. LAN access in the room.

It is impossible to open the windows in the room and the Japanese air condition is not easily operated (nor understood).

The hotel seems as a very good value for money. A good starting point in traveling out from the city, 8 min from Hakata JR station and 5 min from Gion subway, 10 min walking and you get to Tengin the main hangout area. The canal city shopping center is right next to the entrance of the hotel. The rooms are quiet, clean but a bit small.

Right beside mall

reception had little english.

We wanted a double non smoking but got a twin bed smoking room. So we had to switch rooms but there were no more double beds. be sure to make your request prior. the twin rooms were quite spacious. this is the first hotel i stayed in japan so i was surprised at how roomy this room was based on reviews and what i heard about small rooms. however we did peak in the single bed room and that was quite tight for space. i thought it was convenient to have the mall right next to the hotel. there are also some restaurants around the area. easy access to the yatai's in the evenings.i thought it was a bit expensive but then again all the hotels in japan seem to be more pricey.

Travel tip : in the evenings they set up the food booths (yatai's) along the river. you can try a whole variety of food and get a good japanese experience.

Receptionist language problem,

The hotel is located perfectly in the canal city. However they have language problem for non-japanese guests although they are very friendly and trying to help hotel guests. .

The Washington Hotel is located right inside the Canal City shopping mall. This is really handy because there are lots of shops, restaurants and theatres literally right outside of the hotel doors.

The one con about staying in this hotel was that the staff didn't speak English well at all. It was very hard to make special requests because of this. Also, the rooms are really small.

The Washington Hotel is a really good value for the money that I spent to stay there. The price was about $50 per night which is a really good price for Japan. The hotel staff was friendly although they did not speak English very well. It was a bit difficult to navigate the city based on the information they provided. There is really great shooping and dining within the Canal City shopping center.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There are a lot of temples and historical sites in the area. If you go to the tourist information center you can get a walking map of the city.

Spacious room, clean, I had 4 beds in a twin room, quiet, comfortable and good location. Near Hakata station.

Expensive

A good clean hotel with spacious rooms and friendly staff. Includes breakfast, but you will be eating the same breakfast over and over again. The area have much entertainment options. The hotel is attached to a large shopping centre and there are plenty of food places and a garden with beautiful fountains.
