Acceptable Price, Good Location, Complete Room facilities. Nice service mind.
Located in the center of Kyoto.
Near Subway Station and Bus stop. You can go anywhere in Kyoto easily. Also, the hotel is located near mail JR Rail way station. Very easy and convenience to go to other cities.
Many price acceptable resturants near the hotel. Various kinds of food available. Also, near Kyoto shopping center area and fish market. All surrounding is nice, clean.

Rooms were dirty, smelled bad, and the staff were not particularly helpful, not at all up to the usual Japanese standard, which is stellar.
I would not stay there again, but the location is good, Alpha is within walking distance of many nice restaurants, shopping areas and cultural sites, including the Gion area, Yasaka Shrine, Nishiki Market, transportation, and about a 1,300 Yen taxi ride from Kyoto stn. There is free unsecured wireless and a guest-use computer in the lobby.
The staff were not very helpful, unlike the Japanese who usually give wonderful service. They were not unhelpful when pushed, however. The room was somewhat smelly, dirty, and quite noisy, and the beds were not very comfy. We were glad to move to another hotel just down the street that was cheaper, cleaner, and where the staff were awesome.
Hotel Feature Tip : Go to the Unizo Hotel, 1 block north. It is cheaper, nicer and the staff are super.

The hotel is located right at the boarder between fancy shopping area and the administration office area e.g. city government offices. Still, you have easy access to various famous places either on foot or by bus, for example, "Ponto-cho" where there are lots of restaurants at the river. The bus stops are near the hotel entrance. The rooms are large compared to Tokyo standard. The hotel reception was kind and mostly spoke good English.
It was in the middle of summer and for security reason the windows were not to open. The first 20 minutes, until the cool air comes back, you might have to pull yourself together. Only one PC at the entrance hall for the customers.
In spite of the heat of July I and my daughter were able to enjoy good jogging along side the river every morning. Underground is OK but in Kyoto local buses are more useful and reasonable. The hotel is located at the end of a shopping arcade and you will have no difficulty in finding good and reasonable restaurants. The area is a modern part of Kyoto but safe and healthy atmosphare that you can easily stroll arround with your children.
Restaurant Tip : Actually the location is so ideal that this hotel is good for shopping and good restaurants. For good restaurants, get to "ponto-cho" street and reserve a terrace seat looking down on the river. Mind you, there are good restaurants everywhere in this area near the river, also at the main street. After the meal, you can slowly walk back to your hotel easily.

The hotel was great. The thing that made this place outstanding was the staff. They were so friendly and helpful and went beyond what was required to help. For example, we wanted to find some rice paddies near the train station. The lady at front desk rang the train station and found out exactly where to go, how long it would take, and how much it cost. No request was ever a problem.
Another great point was the cleanliness of the rooms - they were spotless. And there is free internet downstairs at reception which was another bonus.
The location of this hotel is fantastic. Downstairs is a 7/11 and you're right in the middle of the shopping district. There are heaps of restaurants nearby too and the train station is a 2 min walk away.
The only thing one could possibly comment on is the age of some of the furnishings. However, in saying this they are clean and very well maintained. Make sure you ask for a room on the 9th floor if you want a non-smoking room as this is the only floor where there are non-smoking rooms.

Take a taxi to get to the hotel for the first time. As the taxi stand is right outside, the drivers know the hotel, but it might be difficult for you to spot the sign.
Restaurant Tip : Right across the road from the hotel is a street with good value restaurants of many different kinds.

Off the main shopping street in a side alley, so a little difficult to find at first.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Get the day pass from the subway station to get around Kyoto.

Overall FABULOUS hotel and I would definitely stay there again! Check out FENWAY PARK a RED SOX bar in Kyoto just around the corner!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There are tons of attractions, restaurants, and sight seeing nearby. Use the buses and subway. They are CHEAP and very easy to use! (Most guidebooks will give you the bus number for many major attractions.) Also the front desk at the hotel gives great info/directions. Tully's coffee, Inoda coffee, and Ogawa are all great for an inexpensive coffee or breakfast. Definitely check out the Philosophers walk and Kinkaku-ji/Ginkaku-ji!

Try some of the many small restaurants just west of the hotel. Amongst others the old Soba restaurant. Recommended guidebooks: "Old Kyoto" and "Eyewitness traveler Japan".
