Well situated within a 10 minute walk from Kyoto JR Station, plenty of nice restaurants located a few minutes walk away.

Basics only, small room size.

As a business man based in Japan, I stay in many " Business Hotels ". It does however offer renovated rooms so they were clean and new. Dont expect any luxuries at any Japanese business hotel. The APA Horikawadori hotel is no exception to this rule. Staff were friendly and helpful. Good value for the room rate.

Clean smart rooms

Could not get internet connection in the room. It is chrged in the lobby

Good hotel very close to Kyoto Station. The rooms are welmaintained by the house keeping people. I enjoyed the stay very much. Open bath fecility is execellent. They are very strict about chek in time. I arrived there at 10 AM but I have to be in the lobby till 3PM. They could adjust this.Could not get internet connection in the room. It is chrged in the lobby, it can be made free in the lobby for the occupants as done in Osaka Hotels . They can also include in the rent Breakfast. Over all I will rate this hotel ***. I will definitly recommend to my friends and I WILL STAY IN apa if I VISIT kyoto in the future. I had a wonderful stay in APA HOTEL. iF POSSIBLE THEY can implement some of my above suggestions.

Excellent location, very clean

Dark room with window facing nowhere

This hotel is located close to the Kyoto Station. It is convenient and clean. However, the rooms are small and the window faces to the middle of the building. Like most hotels in Japan they have very strict rules in terms of checking in/out times. It seems to me that this hotel is mostly for bussines travellers and not for tourists.

Restaurant Tip : A block and a half from the hotel you can get good coffee starting at 7 am at Cafe Veloce.

- the hotel is quite easy to find and locate - a huge public hot spring on the top of the hotel - apart from the chopstick, everything is clean and the temperature of shower water is easy to be control - the staff can communicate in fluent english

- oddly, we found a chopstick on the bed beside the pillows, but the staff helped us to change the bed sheets once we told them - the lobby has a strange smell

Overall, living in this hotel is good 'coz it is near Kyoto Train Station and is easy to find. (Though there are other APA hotels beside this one, it made us entered the wrong hotel in the night.) The room is small like the other hotel in Japan but it's clean and comfortable.

Shopping Tip : The hotel is 5 mins away from the Kyoto Train Station, there are underground shopping streets and shopping malls, full of shops and restaurants.

close to the station, public bath, nice restaurant

hard bed, directions to hotel not clear, space was a bit cramped

This was a good hotel close to the Kyoto station. We were lucky to get directions (through a back way) from some english speaking volunteers when we looked confused in the Kyoto Station on our arrival. the map printed from the hotel's website was very hard to follow. The hotel gives out a good english map of the area though, once you find it. The room was small, as we expected, but we didn't need much space. The bed was very hard, but the duvet was very plush and nice. The bathroom was very small and the tub leaked onto the floor when we had a shower. The public bath had many wash stations, so showering in the room wouldn't really be required. We had one dinner in the restaurant. It was very good and had an english menu and a very nice atmosphere.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Don't miss visiting the Arashiyama area of Kyoto!

Convenient traffic; quiet location; comfortable stay

Small room; restaurant also small, have to queue for breakfast

The hotel is close to Kyoto Station (about 5 minutes walk), but not as close as the other APA Hotel (Kyoto Ekimae) which is only 2 minutes walk from the station. The room is very small, yet clean and cozy. A comfortable place for rest after a long day's exhausting walking tour. The price is a bit expensive due to peak season. Overall a nice place to stay and definitely an awesome city to visit!

Location

Room size

This hotel location is walking distance from Kyoto Station and Tokyu Department Store which is considered very convenient. It was confusing to get to the hotel by map, so better to ask local people but later on it's easy. Clean room with a bit small bed. Public baht room is available on the top floor which is nice and relaxing. Outdoor bath is also available with half-panoramic view.

Clean and comfortable stay . But, small onsen. Guest Rating: 8

- very close to Kyoto station - reasonable price (mid-level) - clean newer-looking rooms - nice lobby and friendly service

- some communication problems may arrise if you don't speak Japanese - Onsen looks MUCH larger in hotel pictures. Was crowded with people and QUITE SMALL. - Room is quite compact, may have trouble if you have a lot of luggage

All in all I was satisfied with this hotel. It was a clean, newer-looking hotel at a reasonable price. Single room has a large bed (little room to move around it), small desk, and compact ensuite bathroom. Good place if you are traveling light and just want a clean, comfortable place to sleep. Bed was spacious and I had no trouble sleeping. Onsen on the top floor was disapointing though. In the hotel pictures, it looked large. However, when I went up there and peaked into the bathing room it was crowded with hotel guests and VERY small. I felt too embarassed to go in and have to sit naked in a tiny bath so close to those around me. Don't go for the onsen, but do go for a comfortable compact room.

Close to Kyoto Station and everything that comes with it, shops, restaurants that are affordable, Bic camera.

Not very friendly at the front desk, small rooms, hard to get a smoke free room, thin walls.

I tried to request a smoke free room at check in as I had requested it when I made my reservations through agoda. My reservations said I had to ask at the hotel. Of course they didn't have any. Fortunatly our room didn't smell at all and only for about an hour one evening did we smell anything. The rooms are crazy small but that's Japan. If you have a lot of luggage you may want to pay more for another hotel. The walls were very thin; we could hear regular conversations in the next room.

Shopping Tip : Bic camera is nearby as is a HUGE mall at the train station. Lots of restuants on the top two floors of the mall. Also a luggage storage room downstairs in the station. It was Y450 per bag. But our bags were too big for the lockers so it was great to bring them there.

Nice place in general, people attend you in a great way, no problems at all !!

would be nice if they get free public internet computers on the lobby, as many others hotels

Once we arrived to the Hotel, people in there were so kind, and we felt so comfortable. Rooms are clean and nice. The cleaning service is really good and the location of the hotel is something else that help to be happy with it. I recomend it as a good place to stay.

The hotel is very conveniently located which makes it an excellent launching point for sightseeing in Kyoto. Also, in keeping with reviews I had read, our room was very clean. The staff were very helpful and courteous. This a great deal and nice place to put your feet up at the end of a long day in Kyoto.

Some say the rooms are small and indeed they are correct but honestly this is the norm in Japan. I would encourage anyone not traveling in a private jet and with a limousine service to pack light when you come to Japan, not only for the room size but also to make your navigation of trains stations so much easier. One con was that the bed was a bit stiff. But the staff gave my husband and I each an extra pillow and that helped improve the bed situation.

Travel tip : Note that there are some inexpensive restaurants on the 9th through 11th floors of Kyoto Station and also on the first floor on the opposite side of the station. Also, don't forget to buy a bus pass for 500 yen each day. You can purchase them at the tourist information office in Kyoto Station. You will more than get your money's worth out of them!

- Great front desk that speaks some english - Computer for rent - Clean + comfortable

- Small single rooms - Hard to find + name a little misleading

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at APA Hotel. The service was great, laptop rental for just 1,000 yen a night was cheap and the single room I had was really nice, though REALLY small. I barely had enough hall way room to lay out my smallish suitcase. The one thing that was really confusing was trying to find the hotel. It took my half an hour to find it though the directions said just a 5 minute walk from Kyoto Station, and I never did find an APA Horikawadori Hotel - it's the same thing as APA Hotel, which the directions did not specify. After I did find the hotel, though, and figured out how quick it is to get to Kyoto Station from it (once you know the short cut), the stay was really good.

The hotel was very nice , clean with excellent service. The in room bathroom while being compact was very clean. The car park was at a reasonable cost.
