good situation in the city, very close to the metro station where we can take two lines of metro.
also good point a desk with 3 computers with free internet.
internet sometimes very low bandwith...
we had a nice stay in kyoto at this hotel, we did not try the restaurent but it seems to be good. the staff is very kind and helpfull and the rooms are quite good.
there are vending machine at each level, and also an ice dispenser. The hotel ahve a good situation in the city, you can reach every point of the city by metro, the station is very close to the hotel, but you can also go in town by foot in 10 min walk.
Hotel Feature Tip : haagen-daz vending machine at the 6th floor !

Excellent location, close to the station yet very quiet. Spacious rooms with soft matrasses
- You may need to wait to use free internet facilities
We stayed for five nights there (August 2009). Really enjoyed it.
- Modern facilities
- Very clean (as per Japanese standard)
- Good sized rooms (not quite Japanese standard)
- Soft matress and good pillows (again, not quite Japanese standard). I realised how comfortable the bed was after I stayed in other two hotels in Japan.
- Good breakfast with european and japanese food for 1,000 yen. They also offer japanese breakfast for 1,380 yen
- the hotel offers lunches as well (you need to pay for them)
- No smokers in the hotel (at least I didn't smell there had been any)
- Free internet facilities
- Laundrette at reasonable price
- Free blood pressure check point
- It's a very quiet place where you can have a good rest after visiting endless Kyoto shrines and other interesting places. I even slept through an earthquake and didn't feel a thing. :))) My husband told me about it next morning.
Restaurant Tip : Ootoya - very reasonable prices, no smokers, healthy modern Japanese quisine. Very popular place not too far from Pontocho.

Very well looked after by staff. Restaurant had a good breakfast offer.
Quite away from the station although once we'd worked the underground system the trains were good.
Really nice staff who couldn't do enough for you. Clean room and easy to find everything in hotel without having to bother staff
Travel tip : Get a taxi when you first arrive and then use public transport.

Free bicycle, free internet, location
We stayed 4 days in Hearton Hotel and we enjoyed our stay. The hotel's location is quite central and you can reach from Kyoto Train station by metro in 10 minutes. The closest metro station is Karasuma Oike. The rooms are clean and compact. You can find everything you need but it is not very spacious. The bicycle service is a great plus for a city like Kyoto where you can travel everywhere easily by bicycle. Just make sure that you book your bicycles as soon as you check in because there is huge demand. Free internet is another plus, but the comon PCs in Level 2 are very slow. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. I strongly suggest this hotel for your stay in Kyoto.

Location at intersection of two subway lines.
Free bicycle rental.
Clean/ well maintained.
Laundry machine on site.
No foreign currency exchange.
No complementary coffee.
Very nice hotel at convenient location.
The free bicycle rentals were great since it was a very good way to explore the city which is very bicycle friendly. The problem is that they run out quickly so you need to reserve them early.
There is no foreign currency exchange available at the hotel, and on the week ends when the banks are closed this could be a problem, since most places use cash.
Hotel Feature Tip : If you need to use bicycle remember to reserve them early the day before. Have much reserve in yen cash.

Convenient location. Laundry on site. Relatively large twin rooms.
Little English speaking staff.
The hotel is very nicely set up. The location is very convenient, just a block away from the subway station that serves the two major subway lines in Tokyo. It is just two stops up from the JR station. There is a 7-11 close by.
The rooms are small by American standards but fine by Japanese hotel standards, the twin rooms are larger than the double rooms. On site laundry very helpful. Good and reasonably priced lunch buffet.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : In many subway and train stations there are mainly stairs, very difficult to haul luggage over.
The hike over Fushimi-Inari is long and arduous but worthwhile at the end. The set up and architecture of the JR Kyoto Station is impressive, a must see.

Good location. Hotel is clean and staff mostly helpful
Staff, though try to be helpful, have rather limited English.
Hearton Hotel is located in the downtown area of Kyoto which we found to be desirable. Easy walking distance to Gion area, Nishi Markent etc which means lots of eating and shopping opportunities. Subway is conveniently nearby which can get you to Kyoto Station (and elsewhere) which is needed to get you to bus routes for most tourist sights (bus line 100 best for most sights).
Hearton's rooms are clean and adequate, though relatively small. Of course we didn't spend too much time in the room, with so much to see in Kyoto.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Walking towards Gion there is a great noodle shop called "new face" (unfortunately sign is not in English). Ask staff to give you directions. Also we liked a pastry shop on Oike (go East) for breakfast.

grand lobby, very clean, good bed, rather spacious room for a Japanese hotel, 24 hr front desk, excellent location near foreign ATM, subway, etc
big difference between the one front desk staff and the other in terms of knowledge and helpfullness. Some are straightout excellent, others are less knowledgable.
I had a good time in the Hearton hotel and would come back next time I'm in Kyoto
Travel tip : reserve one of their free bikes before hand if possible, there was not one available anymore when I wanted one.

- Location. It's right where the two subway lines intersect.
- Quiet.
- Clean.
- Empty Fridge.
- Room was a little small.
- they have a Do Not Disturb light, but our room got cleaned anyway.
Hearton is an excellent hotel. It is clean and very accessible, as it is right on the intersection of the main subway lines. It is also close to a number of great restaurants and is within easy walking distance of some great shops and the Daimaru department store. The rooms are on the small side, but the loaction makes this place a great value.

We were charged 5 times (3 times in a single day and 2 times in another single day) watching the "pay for view" TV that we for sure did not activate. We were out sightseeing every day. We have no way to dispute the charges.
The hotel is tucked in a side street and it was a good 10 blocks or more from the open market and main business/food area. The staff can speak some English. The hotel restaurant was very expensive. The lobby was clean and nice and has free internet access (slow). Just beware of the TV (pay for view) button.
Restaurant Tip : Skip the expensive cafe at or near the hotel. The nearby Seven-Eleven provides satisfactory hot coffee as well as small snacks and cheap sodas.

excellent value for the money
clean, friendly staff
vending machines and washer/dryer very handy
The rooms were small, the furniture a bit chipped, the color scheme a little drab, but we lived with that.
The Hearton Hotel is clean and the staff are friendly and make a game effort to speak English. While we didn't book breakfast with our room, the dining room serves a very reasonable "set" lunch buffet that attracts lots of local dinners and that was fun—and filling for we late risers. Easy to walk to lots of interesting neighborhoods and attractions, including the excellent and historic Omiriya (sp) soba noodle restaurant around the corner. The kids loved the vending machines, including ones that sold Haagen-Dazs, and the laundry facilities were a big plus. If we were on a serious budget and in Kyoto, we'd definitely stay here again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We walked in one direction to the Nijo castle and in the other direction to a wonderful neighborhood, north of city hall, that had lots of small craft shops.

Location. Modern amenities.
Staff mistakenly entered room while Do not Disturb light illuminated. I believe it was just a mistake.
Central location in Kyoto. Near train stop but off of main street, so very quiet (at least in my room). Staff very courteous. Easy access to historic sites and river through city. Many restaurants and convenience stores nearby. Internet is always a plus, and it was consistent.

The room was small but very well organised, so although we had to climb over our suitcases to get from one end to the other, we were generally comfortable. We were hardly in the hotel, so I can't comment much about it, but if we go back to Kyoto, we'd definitely stay there again. It's right in the centre of Kyoto, so really handy for shopping and dining.
