Very nice staff. Breakfast buffet was great.
Our room smelled very strongly of cigarettes.
The Hearton hotel is located in a very easy to get to location. It was very easy to see the sights of Kyoto with The Hearton as a base. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. The amenities were strictly Japanese. Our only complaint was that the room smelled very strongly of cigarettes so we had to keep the window open. They were great about letting us leave our luggage for the day since we had an evening train to Wakayama.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : you need at least 3 days to scratch the surface of all that Kyoto offers. The train station alone is a sight to see!

Under 5 min to underground.
friendly staff
Not closes to buses but at the underground you can buy a allday bus/undergroung pass for 1200yen and also receive a great map to help get about.
Hotel easy to find from undergroung if you get out the correct exit. 7/11 around corner for money machine. Room clean and serviced daily. Not large but OK. I recomend this hotel as is well priced and great position to get around.
Shopping Tip : Very large shopping mail - turn left on main street and go to town hall cross road and there you are. hours of shopping
you can go by undergroung
Try shopping at under the Kyto station and make sure to ride the elevators to the top (14 levels)

good location, friendly staff
small rooms with a bed against the wall, noisy
Our stay at the Hearton hotel was just average. The location was convenient to Gion and the temples and markets in Kyoto, however there was a very noisy school group staying that was not well controlled which made it difficult to sleep. Also the bed in the room was against the wall and the room was a little too small for our liking. However for the price is wasn't too bad compared to other hotels in the area
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : rafting in Arashiyama and the temple of Inari-Fushimi

Helpful staff, comfortable and clean room. Good location and quiet and peaceful experience at the Hearton. Free 24 hour internet access on the mezzanine level. Also free bike use.
The Hearton was an allround positive experience for me. The friendly staff were always helpful and my twin room was clean, comfortable and quiet.
The location was excellent with access to the main streets and the nearby markets. The free bike use was great as was the free internet access. Considering the competitive nature of hotels and other accomodation i would totally recommend the Hearton. Air con was also working fine and the room was modern and functional.
Travel tip : The under cover markets are only a 10 minute walk from the hotel door.
The back streets hold hidden gems such as bars and restaurants. A few minutes walk from the hotel is also a kaleidescope museum.

Good location, inexpensive
Internet is not really high speed as advirtised - it was barely working for me
Comparing to other hotels in Kyoto I was looking at when preparing to my trip in Japan, this hotel was fairly inexpensive and had decent reviews. I think this hotel is a very good choice for someone who want to save some money and doesn't need any special amenities. It is conveniently located, about 5 minutes walking from Karasuma-Oike subway station (take exit 1), which is 3 stops from Kyoto train station. There are two convenience stores nearby, 7-11 and Lawson. 7-11 has international ATM inside.
The room was overall clean, but seemed old, as well as all furniture and applianced. The fridge was noisy. The TV system was a little bit odd - it was way too easy to turn adult channels on, which may be not good for families with children. There is CAT5 wired network outlet for the complimentary internet and the cable is provided, but I found internet speeds to be very low at times making it almost unusable. There are also three free computers with printers on the second floor. Having coin laundromats on the hotel floors was convenient.
Overall I am satisfied with this hotel, considering what I paid.

great location down town and near subway
near many great sites.
have complimentary bicycle
very helpful staffs
Room small and a bit used
limited eatery
We decided to extend our stay at the Hearton because it is conveniently situated and has proximity to some sites we have not covered. Hearton has complimentary bicycle that we can use to go around the downtown area attractions like the imperial palaces and the fort. Kyoto is pleasant to go around in a bicycle. The staffs are very informative and helpful and made us decide to exend the stay another night in this hotel and go around by subways and bicycle and had a great time here in Kyoto. We will come back to Kyoto again and when we do we will consider Heaton Kyoto for sure, maybe this fall but definite next Sakura time.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Ride around Kyoto with the Hearton Hotel provided Bicycle. ANd when you need to go around, buy a day pass for both buses and subway. If you start early, it is a really great bargain. The buses in Kyoto are well run , clean, efficient. COmbining with the subway, you can really enjoy the town to the fullest. Have an early start.

great location, good hospitality and reception. free bycycle help tourist traveling on his own.
small room, breakfast limited.
All around stay has been pleasant and acceptable. The location is very convenient with easy access to subway , buses and walk to great spots. The neighborhood is friendly and easy to find other amenities like convenient stores and local restaurants. The reception personnel are very helpful and efficient. They have been very accommodating and made our stay a pleasant one. I will stay at hearton again if I travel to KYOTO on budget or a quick business trip with low budget. It is the best deal for this price range in Kyoto. Cheap , comfortable and convenient.
Restaurant Tip : There is a corner local japanese restuarant of three tables selling Nabe, local vetgetable soup.
Always ask for a bicycle and book it the night before. Touring in Kyoto with Bike is great.
If ou don't bike, try daypass with bus and underground. It is value for money.

central - 3 station by subway from central station, 15 minutes by foot
reliable size rooms for a couple
clean and quite
helpful staff
small bath but no smaller than similar hotels in japan
we used these accommodation for 6 nights. the rooms are relativily large, so we had enough place for our bagagges. the hotel is in downtown, one minute from metro station. the staff was friendly and helpfull. the internet was free for use. near the hotel are some stores usefull for people that were un able to accommodate to local food. a lot of high lights are close to the hotel.

The hotel is ok. Small, but comfortable and clean. My concern is when we arrived, around 10:00 am. The girl showed me the room for the case I want to change from double to twin, but she told us that check-in time was around 2:00 pm. I understand that the hotel has rules and when it is fully booked we should wait, but the room was empty, clean and ready to be used. After some minutes bagging and telling them that it doesn't make sense, they allowed us to go to the room. It could had been easier.
Restaurant Tip : the breakfast is cheap (considering Japan prices) and very nice (also for westerns)

Perfectly clean, reasonable price, quiet, good location close to subway, free internet
I spent 2 nights in May and was not disappointed in any way. Sure, like everywhere in Japan the rooms (and bathrooms) are rather small but I knew that before. The price was reasonable for the quality delivered and the location at the crossing of the two only subway lines in Kyoto is not bad at all. Everything was perfectly clean though the furniture was a little dated.

The hotel is in heart of Kyoto and accessible very easily by subway from Kyoto Station.
No bus pass the main street nearest to the hotel.
Have to walk 4-5 blocks to reach a bus stop.
Few restaurant on nearby area.
The hotel is located at a good location - close to subway and very easy to find. However, the most convenient way to explore Kyoto is the bus, and the hotel is quite far from bus stop. There are very few restaurant in that area, but Lawson and 7-11 can be found. The room is clean and quite spacious. Internet is provided on the second floor for free.

Good location. Well-maintained and clean rooms.
For this trip I stayed at three hotels and this one was by far the most enjoyable. The staff were always friendly and competent, and were able to accommodate my requests in English. I found the location was great as it was on the Karasuma subway line whilst also being within easy walking distance of the Downtown district (where the limited Kyoto nightlife is located). However that is subjective - some may prefer their hotels to be located near the main Kyoto station. Given the price bracket that it's in, I couldn't find any real downsides to my stay at the Hearton. The room and the desk inside were both a bit small, but this appears to be the case with other Japanese hotels in this bracket. I would love to stay here again next time I'm in Kyoto!

Good location and very close to the train station
The reception staff were fine, but could have been "warmer" when checking in - it was all a bit clinical. There was no extra assistance offered, ie. taking bags up to our room and they weren't able to suggest any nearby restaurants when we asked for a recommendation
Hearton Hotel is a reasonably priced hotel that is somewhat lacking in character. I had previously seen Hearton Hotel described as a "business hotel" and our experience of the hotel reinforced this view. The rooms are clean and fine for the price. Whilst there's nothing wrong with them in terms of what is provided, ie. comfortable bed, clean bathroom (arguably the most important factors!), they lack any charm. If you are just looking for somewhere to rest your head after being out all day, this would be fine, but if you want somewhere a little bit luxe, this is probably not the hotel for you
