Clean and large rooms in good location
convenient location, good service and clean rooms
7.7
It's in a semi-commercial and residential area. I enjoyed being right in the middle of where people lived and worked. The hot public bath within the hotel is interesting. It was my first experience.Would recommend this hotel anytime.

Beutiful hotel with the scent of japan
A Great place for a Real Japanese Experience
8.3
An amazing place to have your real japanese experience. The morning breakfast is not to be missed. If you are the adventurous type that doesn't mind getting a little lost but asking strangers for a little help then you'll love this place. If you would rather have it all laid out then go with western hotels. I had an amazing stay though at peak season pricing of $180 Per night it was a bit expensive. The location is key very central. Kyoto is a 2 night or more stay there are so many things to see and enjoy. You will take the bus everywhere so the location is very important. I also wanted to say that if you are on a tight time line then you want to stay Kyoto Station area where there are a few other hotels. The station makes moving about a little easier since the sites are on the 4 sides of town and getting to each takes a while so you can jet back to your hotel for your luggage before catching the bullet.

Superb Ryokan Japan Traditional House experience!
Enjoy ryokan with clean and great service from staff, had hot springs in modern public bath!
7.7
Love the ryokan, it's great experience in Japan to enjoy traditional house of Japan. The area also not far from Gion Shijo street that famous in Kyoto.
This hotel had public bath with mineral hot springs water, for free! Great experience for your fatigue and also to relaxing your body after travel for days
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Enjoy Gion SHijo to see Geisha comes along in the street. Otherwise you can enjoy the shops and food in Kyoto!

i stayed at this ryokan with my husband during our visit to kyoto. as we arrived in the evening we took a taxi from kyoto station to the ryokan. this worked out well as it may have been a little difficult to find in the dark, had we taken the bus or train. the staff were very helpful and provided us with maps and tips about travelling around kyoto. they were also able to recommend great cheap places to have dinner. the room had a nice view over the park and was cleaned daily. the breakfast provided by the ryokan was great (japanese style) and definitely worth the extra amount we paid. if you are looking for a ryokan experience in kyoto without wanting to pay alot - i recommend staying here.

Convenient location, neat set up and friendly/help
8.3
i was here for 3 nights. The hotel proved very convenient, within 5-10 mins to public transport esp as I wanted to see a lot of the sites within a relatively short space of time. Staff was friendly, and tried their best to help with any questions I had, one even hand drawn up a day itinerary listing out all the destinations i wanted to check out and methods of transports, and even what stops to get off at, in kanji.
Room was reasonably large, about 400 sq ft and quite neat.

Comfortable and affordable hotel
courteous staff, location, backpacker-friendly price
8.7
we had a very pleasant stay in hirashin. the reception staff were professional and friendly. the public bath on the basement was simple but retained minimum comfort. the room was twice as big as a hotel room of comparative price. we also liked the breakfast, which we tried little bit of many things in kyoto-style plate.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
It is located near Nishiki market, and it was a picturesque walking through Nishiki market to Yasaka shrine, Kodai temple then to Kiyomizu temple and back.

Near the main shops and Gion. A relaxed Japanese style hotel.

Although our stay was brief we were well looked after. We checked our bag in early and were given a tea and biscuit. Our room was a good size and very clean. The service was discrete and efficient. An extra futon was provided for our 11 month daughter. Maps of the district and city were also provided in English and Japanese.

Lovely Hotel and Amazing Hospitality
9
it was one of the best experience we had during the whole trip traveling in japan. first, when we checked in, they served some nice japanese tea and dessert. it was a little thing but it was just nice to be treated that way. of course, we were very excited to see the traditional japanese style hotel room when we opened the door. the small balcony space for drinking tea and chatting was so nice. the public bath was very clean. the service was the most amazing part. they basically offered all the help we asked for, including sightseeing sites, bus numbers, restaurants, keeping luggage for us....etc. it was a very nice experience.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Well, it's Tokyo. There are numerous temples and castles for sightseeing. We used one day bus pass, which was so worthy. We visited 4 or 5 temples and castles.

Good location and value for money
Very clean and very spacious.
7.7
The Japanese style rooms were really quite big for Japan. There was plenty of room for two people. Shabu-shabu dinner served in room was quite nice. Nice, small public bath in basement was a bonus. A lot cheaper than most hotels in Kyoto.
