Great location, excellent service, very clean.
Room too hot (in November).
This is a very nice hotel. Small but very clean room. The service was excellent, the desk staff spoke English and were very helpful in arranging our tour. The location is also great for lots of walking and shopping.
Restaurant Tip : There's a terrific little coin machine payment style restaurant just down the street from the Gimmond. Great food on the cheap.

No WiFi, Rooms are showing their age
The Hotel Gimmond Kyoto was a decent hotel for the price. The rooms and facilities are a bit dated, however we could not fault the cleanliness of the hotel and the room (a double) was a decent size by Japanese standards. The hotel is a short walking distance (10-15 minutes) from the main shopping and dining streets and a very short walk to the subway station (which is conveniently where the two Kyoto subways lines cross). There are also dozens of small restaurants in the area around the hotel.
The rooms all have 100Mbs LAN connections to the Internet, but no WiFi (so my iPhone would not work). There are also two paid (100 Yen for 10 minutes) Internet PCs in the lobby.
We would definitely stay at the hotel again.
Restaurant Tip : Apollo restaurant is just three short blocks south of the hotel (just past the Museum of Kyoto) which serves great food (many small dishes) and has a great selection of Shochu.
