Good service, very helpful of staff.

The photo of standard room in hotel's website is much nicer than the real room when I got there. Very disappointed. The room that I got has old decoration.

  • Travel tip : I am not satisfied with the room because I stayed in the room that total different from what is in the Hotel's website. I selected this hotel because of the photos of room in hotel website. But overall, I am satisfied with the staff, they are nice and have a service - mind.

The boys and girls working at the reception desk were very helpful. The hotel has a wonderful location in downtown Kyoto.

I liked everything at the hotel.

This hotel was very conveniently located in the middle of Kyoto- the only draw back being it was a $12.00 cab ride from the train station. For other transportation it was very good and within a couple blocks from the bus as well as the subway. The lobby was unpleasant unless you were a smoker because it smelled of heavy smoke fumes but our non smoking room was fine. The staff were very helpful and pleasant and when we needed 2 single beds instead of a double they gave us a upgraded room on the top floor and there no extra charge. The beds were decent in Japanese standards- hard but tolerable. The bathroom was very clean and lots of hot water. Plus all the toiletry goodies that come as extras were there. I would recommend this to travelers on a budget that want a decent and inexpensive hotel in Kyoto.

When we had a problem with the beds they switched our room at no charge and gave us the upper floor in a quiet corner. Friendly and helpful service and very clean room. Small but comfortable.

Many smoking Europeans in the lobby so it smelled. Somewhat outdated but clean and tidy.

  • Shopping Tip : Small quaint streets immediately behind the hotel and slightly further a huge covered mall with fun shops and restaurants.

Once we found the hotel all was good. Friendly efficient staff at the front desk, clean and tidy rooms (albeit on the tiny side) and a handy location made it an easy stay. It's a short walk from the hotel to the shopping district and the main bus stops (a must to get around as the subway didn't seem to go anywhere near the places we wanted to visit). I do recommend the inhouse Japanese restaurant in the basement, it was the best meal we had in Japan (real Japanese - not just sushi).

Location - halfway between Nijo Castle on the one hand and the shopping district on the other. Great Japanese restaurant downstairs. Staff helpful with adequate english.

As with all Japanese hotels ... roomsize ! Two people and their luggage and there is no room move. A bit hard to find on foot from the station, the directions (just around the corner from the museum) weren't helpful.

  • Restaurant Tip : The hidden restaurant in the basement is excellent. High quality service, tasty and unusual food (try the soyabean paste steamed pork), or the duck ... and no too pricey (except maybe the sake).

Finding the Gimond hotel was quite easy as it is convenintly located on Oike-dori, one of Kyoto's main through streets. The staff was capable and friendly, but the hotel does not have on site parking which could be quite expensive if you leave your car during day time hours. The rooms were clean and comfotable but the bathrooms where small and cheap, like a plastic box. The on site restaurants were reasonably priced with good food and the Gion distrct is within walking distance.

Great location, good restaurants, capable friendly staff

Small, cheap bathrooms

  • Shopping Tip : Gion distrct is within walking distance and has many great shops and restaurants.

Excellent value for money. Good location. A large number and variety of restaurants in the hotel area. Excellent access for the subway and trains. The service is also good quality.

Location. Price and restaurants nearby.

No cons

An excellent accommodation. After some confusion over an appointment for a guided tour, the staff at the hotel arranged for a taxi to take us sightseeing at hotel expense, they provided us a taxi at no charge the next morning to take us to the train station and even made a small gift to us of beautiful Japanese fans. The staff was unbelievably attentive and concerned with our well being.

The staff at this hotel is extraordinarily concerned with the satisfaction of its guests. Frankly, a Westerner like me is not accustomed to such excellent service.

Like we found everywhere on our trip, the rooms are smaller than we are accustomed to in the West.

I probably would not stay here again Guest Rating: 3.5

I was not impressed by this hotel. It had a great price and location, those were the reasons I chose it. However I would not stay there again. The staff were nice and the room was clean, even though it was old. I would pay a little more for another hotel next time. We put on the robes and got bug bites. I would have been ok if the room didn't make me feel like I was in the early eighties. The hotel really needs a remodel. If you are looking for the cheapest hotel then go for this one, if you are looking for a good deal then choose another.

The best part was the location. The staff were very friendly. The price was OK, could have been better. Free internet. Close to the subway.

The room was old. You have to leave your key at the front desk when you leave (not check out). No English channels on the TV like other hotels. Super small bathroom.

  • Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The subway is only a few blocks away, use exit 3-1.

Front desk staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, speaking good English and offering advice on how to get around in Kyoto. The hotel's central location proved ideal for subway access, but required a longer walk (10 minutes) to the nearest bus stop. The hotel was considerably better than previous reviews had indicated.

Extremely convenient location - at junction of Kyoto's two subway lines. Small but well equipped room with tea/coffee making facilities and free internet access

Room decoration a little shabby - but it is an older well established hotel

  • Travel tip : Nearby museum restaurant

There was a kind of mite or similar bug in the beds you filled with painful stings and very annoying. The double room was very small with little space to open suitcases. The bathroom was tiny, you just arrived to enter and close.

Good treatment.

Mites very annoying. Room small.
