Love the hotel, very clean, close to many things to see and do, trains very close and the price was great.

better instructions of how to get there from the trains.

Love the hotel, very clean and great location. close to restaurants, clubs and shopping centers. excellent value and location. trains are very near by. the room are a bit small for US standards but excellent for Asia, with refrigerator and TV, very clean and very well taking care. the beds are very comfortable. Just look in Google maps for exact location before you go there, because it can be a bit confusing.

Restaurant Tip : Great place to have breakfast couple of blocks with lots of excellent options. close walking to clubs and restaurants to eat at night or just walk around

Not far from railway station

Restaurant clouses too early, at 22 o'clock

Good location, easy to find, not far from city center and from railway station, there are two beautiful and interesting big temples near the hotel - Nishi Honganji and Higashi Hongandji. Restaurant was closed at 22 o'clock. Seems to be inconvenient... Rooms are clean and quiete. Will recomend it to my friend for reservation.

Restaurant Tip : No late dinner in the hotel's restaurant. It is closed at 10 p.m.

Easy going, friendly atmosphere. English spoken. Located in a quieter area within walking distance of the main attractions.

Smallish rooms by western standards, but adequate. Decor not modern.

My partner and I spent 4 nights at the Hotel Gimmond and found it to be a really good base for our exploration of Kyoto. The rooms were of a reasonable size, clean and comfortable if a little old in their decor. Hi speed internet access was available as well as a fridge and tea making facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we had no trouble with communication using English. We did not eat at the hotel so we can't comment on the restaurants or food served. We preferred to eat all our meals at local cafes, noodle bars etc. Although they do not provide bicycles like some hotels, (which is an excellent way of exploring Kyoto), they looked after the bikes we hired at night which is a requirement of the hire company. Overall we were happy with the Hotel Gimmond for a midrange hotel and would consider staying their again.

A great place to stay in Kyoto. Guest Rating: 9

Friendly helpful staff. Location of the Hotel is very good.

I have no complaints.

Great Location, clean, neat, tidy, western style hotel. Our room was compact but had everything required for the end of a busy days sight seeing. The nearby subway exit is handy to transfer to and from Kyoto Station and for daily sightseeing, I would reccommend and use this Hotel as a base in Kyoto again.

The staff were helpful with a friendly disposition. The rooms were quite adequate and well appointed. The hotel is ideally situated for sightseeing.

There were very few cons, the shower had perhaps seen better days but was still perfectly functional. Guess I'm being over critical.

The hotel is some distance from the railway station but is ideally situated for all sightseeing. The reception staff in general spoke good English and were always available to assist with directions or indeed with any other related issues. The rooms albeit on the small side were quite adequate, they were clean and well appointed. I would have no hesitation in reccomending the hotel and would certainly stay again if the opportunity arose.

- Clean - Near to a subway station - 5 minute walk to the nightlife

- Small room - Not the most modern hotel

A very nice stay in Kyoto, good value - a lot of foreign tourists staying. Rooms were small [typical Japanese business hotel]. There was internet in the lobby for 100 yen. Another typical Japanese business hotel which provided good value in Kyoto. Staff were helpful and spoke some English. Would recommend this as a cheap hotel option in Kyoto.

Nightlife Tip : Near to all the nightlife - i recommend Karoke...

Double room is not small as we expected.

Bathroom is smell.

The location is good, but I would perfer to stay around Kyoto JR station. The hotel is not very old, the room is not small compared with standard hotel rooms in Japan. The staff are willing to help but still have problems with their English. A lots of restaurant and shops around the area. The night life was good.

Its very close to the Oike Subway Station. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean.

Though located new to subway. There's hardly anything to eat or do within a 5-10mins walk. It is a good 15 min walk to the main shopping street. So i would not recommend it if accessibility to shopping or food is your criteria. At US$200 with tax, it wasn't exactly cheap. There are far cheaper options at more convenient locations. The hotel rooms were old (compared to others i've stayed at.

Superb location, efficient staff, great breakfast at a good price

Toilets a little small, still using metal keys with a huge key chain instead of card keys?

The hotel is superbly placed between the Imperial Palace, Kiyomizu Temple, Gion, and most other sights in Kyoto. It is possible to walk to most of them. Plenty of food available at the nearby Nishiki Market as well as Teramachi shopping street. Although a little small, the rooms are clean and the hotel has thoughtfully provided a humidifier in the room. All in all a pleasant experience!

Friendly staff. Clean room. Ok location.

The room decor was dated and had a "yellow tinge" to it. The A/C only provided heat because it was cold outside but we like our room cool so we had to open the window to the outside to cool the room down. This introduced a lot of noise. No hot coffee available in hotel. Room key has an awkward, large plexiglass rod attached to it (about 10 inches long), no electronic room key.

The hotel is a nice quaint hotel with no frills but friendly staff. The beds were small but adequate (if you're under 6 ft.). The location is over 5 blocks from Teramachi shopping district and 3 blocks to the subway terminal and about 8 blocks to the closest hotel to take JTB tours. The location wasn't as convenient as I had thought. There is a 24hr convenience store and restaurant within a block which is good. If you're looking for a clean, low cost hotel and don't mind not having some of the amenities of the larger hotels then this is a good fit.

Travel tip : If you take the subway to the hotel use exit 3-1. We took the opposite exit and its quite a walk. If you walk to the shopping district take one of the side streets parallel to the main Oiki street. The side streets have many shops and boutiques and is a much nicer walk.

- Close to restaurants, bars, fish market, gion district, transportation - Close, easy access to big attractions like imperial palace and nijo castle - Friendly, helpful staff

- Room is small (expected anywhere in Japan) - Staff speaks limited English - No refrigerator

Hotel Gimmond is a decent place with very courteous staff. The rooms are small, but that's expected in most places anywhere in Japan. Our double room was big enough for the two of us and was clean. The location of the hotel is convenient to the nightlife district so you can walk there or take a short cab ride. Not too far from the Kyoto Station either (maybe 15-20mins), but if you have luggage, I wouldn't suggest walking. Overall, okay for its value.

The location was ideal, a 2 minute walk from the vibrant Dotonbori area, full of great restaurants and bars, and the shopping mall of Shinsaibashi. The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful and have great English. The rooms are immaculate, beautifully kept in the traditional style while still being comfortable for foreigners who may not be sure of going completely Japanese. The price was very fair for yen, exchange rates at the moment may say otherwise though!

None

This hotel is ideally situated in a lovely quiet back street that is a 2 minute walk from one of the livliest parts of Osaka. The Dotonbori area is full of bars and restaurants, the Shinsaibashi malls are full of fantastic shops. The staff in this hotel go out of their way to cater for everything, they are extremely helpful and have great English. They are also very appreciative for any little Japanese you may have. The rooms are very comfortable, and for those who have never experienced Japanese-style living before, the bathrooms are fully equipped with modern facilities. I have stayed in this ryokan (japanese style hotel) 3 times now, and I will go back again.

Restaurant Tip : Along the Dotonbori main street, where there are many restaurants, try a yaki niku (fried meat) or okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) place. Yaki niku is delicious and great fun to cook yourself, okonomiyaki is the speciality of the region, and should be tried at least once!

Great location, clean, helpful staff.

Small room but probably average for area.

Booked room on Agoda after i was unable to use the hotel's website. I received the booking email from agoda but never got the hotel voucher from agoda, but i did book less than 24 hours ahead in fairness, but did not get instant confirmation as agoda website stated, but once i got to hotel they had reservation. I booked a double room but it was only one bed they changed to 2 beds once i arrived, very nice hotel and staff went out of their way and would not except tips. Would stay again, price seemed high for small room, but sure that is in line for area.

Restaurant Tip : Great small quaint restaurant within one minute walk. As you walk out of the hotel and take a left, left at the corner and it is on the left hand side at the end of the block. Great food and helpful staff, no english menu but staff made it work.
