Great location, excellent service, very clean.

Room too hot (in November).

This is a very nice hotel. Small but very clean room. The service was excellent, the desk staff spoke English and were very helpful in arranging our tour. The location is also great for lots of walking and shopping.

Restaurant Tip : There's a terrific little coin machine payment style restaurant just down the street from the Gimmond. Great food on the cheap.

Friendly, welcoming staff with enough English to be very helpful. Ten minute walk to centre of town. Easy access to the subway- a pass such as the Kansai Through Pass makes accessing all sites by train and bus easy. Close to Museum of Kyoto.

Room small compared to others at similar price, experienced in other Japanese cities.

We were at first a little disappointed in the hotel compared to other cities in Japan at similar cost for position, room size and decoration and provision of a simple inexpensive breakfast. However the pleasant helpful girl at reception allowed us to overlook these things in being able to achieve seeing as much of Kyoto as we wanted to through her guidance and accessibility to buses and subway. We enjoyed the pleasant 10 minute walk to the centre once orientated. The bed was comfortable though our view to the back of the hotel was blocked by the air con stack. Overall we enjoyed our stay and realised, small rooms and hence value for money, is just not met often in Japan.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Having a transport pass saves buying individual tickets and the bus and train routes cover well where tourists want to go.

1) location 2) size of beds in twin room 3) friendly personel

1) size of bathroom: really small 2) outdated furniture

Location: the location of this hotel is absolutely top! Very close to the shopping area, just behind the block you can already start exploring Kyoto. And just a few block away you can walk to the imperial palace and Nijo castle. Secondly: the metro exit is just in front of the hotel, so ideal to reach when you arrive by shinkansen in Kyoto. Beds: most important feature of a hotel, and it was OK. The bedsize is 195mx1 approximately with nice long bedlinen. The matrass was a bit hard, but I guess that's matter of preferences. Breakfast: good against a fair price bathroom: very small, but sufficiently equiped. So all-in-all this hotel was totally up to specs as far as I'm concerned.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : 'go just around the corner and explore the backalleys of Kyoto

Free internet, friendly english speaking staff.

Small room (but normal for Japanese) no water in the fridge.

Very pleasant atmosphere and clean. A bit of a walk to get to the main shopping spot, but there is a subway station close by. The free high speed internet was a real bonus! Comfortable clean beds. Surprisingly, the bacon and egg cook up was the least bad of any hotel I stayed in Japan. Happy with the hotel, and I'd recommend it to family and friends. (and you!)

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The subway station is left as you exit the hotel, about 100-200m down the road.

Has everything you need, friendly staff, big enough bed for 2. Friendly staff, 10 min walk to the main shopping streets. Even though the rooms are old, it's very clean.

Hotel needs an upgrade, its old, but kinda funky in an old way. It's about a 10 min walk from the main shopping streets. Out of all the hotels we stayed at in Japan, this one was the most expensive one and was the worst one (but we did stay in some decent ones).

Out of all the hotels we stayed at in Japan, this was by far the worst and most expensive. It was decent enough and had everything we needed, but it needs an urgent upgrade. It did it's job though, but not for what we paid at the time.

Location. Cleanliness. Courtesy of staff.

Rooms, by Western standards, are very small. Hardly any place to unpack one's suitcase.

Despite the small, cramped room, with no place to unpack your bag, the room was very clean; the staff was very courteous and helpful. And the ideal location in the center of the city, and at the crossroads of the two subway systems, makes this a hotel to which I will happily return.

Travel tip : Behind the very modern buildings on the main avenues, the "Old Japan" is still very close-by when you walk the small streets and arcades.

Location

Nothing particularly bad, given the price range compared to other comprable hotels across Japan.

As per most standard rooms in Japan, the room space isn't the greatest; however nor is it the worst. For the price of the stay I couldn't really complain. I only used the room to sleep/shower after a full day of exploring and I was not disappointed.

Nice Lobby, good location

none

Overall, this place was good. I don't have any complaints, but then again nothing about the hotel was that memorable. The staff was courteous, spoke English, and helpful with directions. The hotel itself is just a few blocks from the Karasumaoike Metro Station. The room itself was clean and decent. Behind the hotel is a great little neighborhood of shops, museums, and restaurants.

good location, helpful staff

small room

The location is good for any activity. Close to the main subway station, close to nightlife district... the size of the room is standard for Japan, that is.. SMALL. Except this, this is a standard hotel for Japan, though the staff was very helpful. Next time i will try to find another one with better room size.

Nice hotel with very friendly staf.

Slightly small and "oldish" room in european standard.

Nice hotel for one night stay at least. The staf was extremely friendly and helpfull. The hotel is not new so the rooms were somehow "oldish" but decent clean and tidy for European standards also. The location of the hotel is quite convenient from the attractions like Nijo castle and walk distance to Gion district. Lot of small restaurants around.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Close to Nijo castle

Comfortable rooms, lots to do nearby.

Not quite as close to the bus line as we had expected.

We used this hotel as our base of operations in Kyoto. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was friendly. They advertise that they sell bus passes at the front desk, but the problem is that the nearest stop for the busses that the passes are good for is quite far from the hotel. It's not that bad, but it would have been nice to be able to just get off the bus and go into the hotel instead of having to walk all the way back from the Shijo-Karasuma intersection when we were tired. All in all a nice quiet place to stay and a good value for the money.

Convenient location, good service, clean rooms with adjustable air conditioning, good bathroom

Room size a bit tight but on a par with similar and sometimes dearer hotels

This hotel was in a very covenient location, close to the train station and this made everything easily accessible, such as restaurants, shopping and sight seeing The staff understood English and were helpful and polite. The signage out the front in English made finding the Hotel easier in the first day. I would recomend it to budget conscious travellers as good value for money for a western style establishment

Travel tip : The underground station close by

Very good location. Close to the subway and shopping eating areas. Pleasant staff. Rooms were cleaned every day.

Room was a bit small. Didnt like smoking place in the lobby.

Very good location! We walk to Gion almost every day. Big shopping and eating places were on the way. Close to the subway and very easy to find. We came here to explore Japan and not to rest in the room so I almost fogot how the room looked.Actually,it was very small, not much space for the luggage.Staff was nice.Rooms were cleaned every day. There were few things which bother us a bit was the noise coming from the corridor and the smoking place in the lobby( we are both non-smokers). Oh,almost forgot,we were able to keep or luggage in the soridge room all day for free.Well,I would come back again.

Travel tip : Shopping and eating places are just around the corner!

Very centrally situated

Very outdated on room interior and bath.

Very nice location, nice friendly helpfull staff. But decoration and bath standards are very outdated consider we live in 2000 year and not 80` year. So you pay more for located place hotel rather than comfortable looking hotel room. The nice thing are airconditioner working effectiv with the air "freshner/cleaner" operated device. Overall, the room okay cleaned everyday.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Fish market is hot spot to explore along with the shopping "out-space-long-road-mall" which probably take 1-2 days. There a lotsa lots temple scattered around Kyoto if you consider visiting them, plan first which one in order to see them all, as this might be time-consuming if not planned.

Good size room, queen size bed, very helpful staff, central city location, close to subway station.

The hotel's Japanese restaurant didn't have a comprehensive menu in English. Because we weren't able to speak Japanese comfortably, we weren't able to order the specials. However, food was very delicious and service was good.

Hotel Gimmond was a very comfortable business hotel. All front desk staff were able to speak English very well and they were very helpful. They went out of their way to help us book tours and look up websites for attractions we wanted to visit. There is a subway station that is located close to the hotel, so it's very easy to go to Kyoto Central station, rather than catching a bus or walking. It's on a quiet street with mainly businesses on the street but is close enough to the main shopping streets. Really loved staying here.
