if you are coming on the JR line its right there on the station just a few feet away. The hotel is first class and well located to go anywhere.
I found little to none cons for this hotel
The personel were very pleasent and helpful and the room was very confortable and clean. There are lots of restaurants in the hotel and even more all around the mall of the station.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : you can take the metro to just about any of the temples. At early evening time its fun to go to Gion corner streets and watch for thr Maiko. the show at the theater its ok but not my favor.

good location, convenient to catch train, good view
unsatifactory for a 5 star hotel to charge to use their pool/spa facilities, expected something extra personal touch ie a gift of chocolates or something that 5 star hotels usually do
Good location if you want no hassle when you have lots of luggage. Room was very spacious and comfortable with nice modern interior design. One thing I was annoyed about was that the hotel charges extra for use of their facilities - pool, spa and steam room which I was looking forward to but didnt go because of the extra cost. For the high price I paid for the room, and the standards that you expect from 5 star hotel, one would expect a global standard ie includes use of gym, pool, spa, steam room etc. I would go stay the hotel again but only if I knew that I was not going to have time to relax in the hotel. I would most likely choose another hotel which offers more facilities.
Another issue was that even though I requested a queen bed or king bed when i booked online, they gave us 2 single beds which is most unprofessional for a premium hotel.

Excellent location above Kyoto Station
Distances to outermost rooms from lobby elevators is inconvenient.
A beautiful hotel. Rooms are spacious and modern. Great service and value. Location can't be beat relative to shinkansen, train and bus lines. Some of the hotel rooms are far from the lobby elevators which can make for a long hike, especially from the JR lines at the station. You must walk all the way to the lobby then double back to the room once you reach your floor. Not too bad, you just have to factor that extra time into your plans, especially if you have a train to catch.

Location is excellent if you plan to use Kyoto as a base and do trips by rail
Listening to the trains..
You can hear the trains!! We were on the 10th floor and you could hear every local train going by. Its a nice hotel in a great location, would be nice if there was actually some coffee in the room. Would probably stay again as the location is so good it makes the noise worth it.
Shopping Tip : Hit the Isetan food level if you want a quick take away

the modern architecture of the Kyoto Station, where the hotel is located, creates a fantastic setting. The concierge service was helpful. The rooms are comfortable, but lack charm. The bathroom was small, but comfortable and well lit up. The products (shampoo, shower gel, moisturizer) offered were of very good quality as well.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : easy to take trains or subway.

Proximity to the station (immediately above) and the shops and restaurants in the station malls.
When the station became busy after about 7am, you can hear station noise (announcements etc) from the room, but not too intrusive.
A real luxury hotel, from the meet and greet in the lobby to the rooms. Very good English language skills by many staff. Good views over Kyoto from the rooms. The proximity to the station is a real bonus for tired travellers - and if you like an upmarket, luxurious international style hotel, this is for you.
Restaurant Tip : Plenty of local restauarant choices in the station mall, if you don't want to dine in the hotel.

Helpful Conceirge for sightseeing and restaurants
Wonderful poll (50 meter), hot tub, sauna and steamroom (though the latter was closed)
Nice rooms
Excellent staff
Perfect location within attractive/futuristic mall, RR and restaurant complex
Excellent European restaurant, Le Fleur
They charge for the in-room coffee
Most accommodating hotel I have ever stayed at. Pool- exercise - jaccusi facilites were lovely, and not advertised. Location was a bit far from the Geon, but still an easy taxi ride, and the shopping in the 2 malls and easy access from the train lines below the hotel made up for this. I saw the future and it was Granvia. Don't miss this hotel experience and take advantage of the conceirge for all your sightseeing needs, including a trip to Nara (a must). Gracious hospitality and ultimate luxury at a very affordable rate.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Visit all the larger temples, shines and gardens, including those in Nara. And be sure to spend time in the old city called Geon by foot and the temple on the hill near it. Wear walking shoes!

All staff members could speak english, conveniently located on top of Kyoto station (with plenty of restaurant and shops).
staff were not knowledgeable
The property was excellent with numerous restaurants and shops surrounding the 5 star hotel. Rooms were good size and staff were trying to be helpful but in most cases they were not! e.g.
Q. What is a typical food for Kyoto.
A. the condor fish is very popular at this time of the year.
Q. So where can we find this fish
- she looks through books and rings a few places then tells us:
A. Sorry I don't know!
so to conclude if you want a nice place to stay but know what you want to do this is a great place to stay. But to be fair I am sure they tried.

Convenient Location. Good access to the subway and trains. No hassle of dragging baggage around as we kept it with the concierge. It allowed us to visit fer more temples after checking out since we departed Kyoto late evening.
Room pretty old. Staffs pretty OK.
We had no complaint for our 1 night stay in Kyoto. Except the bad experience during our check out when the front desk staff (a male receptionist) was very rude and not very professional. Overall, the staffs especially the females at the front desk and concierge have been very helpful in assisting us. The hotel is attached to a few shopping malls which allowed us to shop for last minute souvenier prior departing for our train. Prices can be slightly cheaper than places around the temple.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Ponto Cho is a must. Great dinner ambience.

Great location, nice clean rooms, all the amenities you could ask for, great staff with firm command of English - what's not to love?
Well, the $17 cake and coffee set in the Sky Lounge *was* a bit much...
Granvia is so convenient if only for the first stop on your Kyoto leg. For reason I won't go into here, I had to fly AA to Narita and go straight through to Kyoto. Believe me when I say that after that flight, plus Tokyo station, you do not want to go wandering after some in-city hotel. Granvia is it - clean, modern, free internet, easy access to JR trains and Kyoto city buses and subways. The "twin" beds are bigger than standard twin and really comfy.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Do not overlook Uji if you're in the Kyoto area - it's a tea lover's dream!

It is centrally located atop the the Kyoto main train station and is a stones throw away from endless restaurants and shopping. The hotel offers large luxurious rooms with floor to ceiling windows and amazing views of beautiful Kyoto. The room facilities are of a very high standard and the largest comfortable beds we encountered.
It is very expensive but well worth all it has to offer.
The Granvia Hotel is the perfect oasis in Kyoto. It is ideally located atop the Kyoto Central Station enabling easy access to the endless beauties Kyoto has to offer only a mere train stops away. It is centrally located to a wide variety of restaurant choices and shopping options which are located just below the hotel and available throughout and around the station. The hotel is a short train stop to the famous Gion District, where there are endless shops and restaurants, not to mention the spot ideal spot to see a Geisha and visit a pagoda or temple in your travels. The hotel itself offers endless high end dining experiences and the largest rooms we encountered throughout Japan, not to mention spectacular views from the large ceiling to floor windows. The staff are very proficient in English and offer the highest service levels encountered and are extreamly helpful with no demand being too difficult. A perfect hotel in more ways than one. We will definately be visiting the Granvia in Kyoto upon our next visit to Kyoto.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Be sure to visit the Gion district and walk around to visit the ancient temples & pagodas which are absolutely breathtaking. Make your way to the famous teapot lane where you will find endless stores offering Kyoto's best handcrafted treasures.

Location, modern, good service
As the hotel is located within Kyoto station it is very convenient for day trips to higashi yama and arashiyama.\n\nDon't be put off by the fact it is in a train station - in this case that is a huge plus.\n\nThe hotel is modern, the room was spacious though the bathroom was standard size in Japan (i.e. relatively small for western standards) but more than adequate.\n\nSpecial mention of the great concierge service who recommended us a truly wonderful restaurant in Kyoto.\n
