large room but not functional - no space to put any clothing away, no space at the vanity for toiletries, poor lighting.
restaurant was touted as special but just adequate.

We had so much fun in Kyoto because of the very friendly and helpful staffs in Kanra. they provided us with a map and directions to all the attractions with free bicycle rental service. And unlike most hotel staff in Japan, their English were pretty good!
Will definitely go back and stay in Kanra again if we visit Kyoto again.
Especially the room is big, extremely nice in design and comfortable!

one of the best hotels we experienced in japan
large room size with large beds.

it may not look much from the outside but the rooms are large and comfortable by japanese standards with two queensize beds and additional futons if required to sleep at least 4 to a room. 10 minute walk to the kyoto station and shopping area or 15 minute walk to the main shopping area in kyoto in the opposite direction. if travelling to kyoto by train you can get off at kyoto station for that 10 min walk but if it is raining take the subway to gojo and exit through exit 8. turn right and the first right again. the hotel is on the left, barely 200 metres from the subway entrance. a great place to stay and one we would use again
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
there is an older area of kyoto where geisha (known as geiko in kyoto)about 20 min walk from the hotel. explore thae back street and you may see one. there are evening shows you can attand but only on selected nights. the hotel will help

Very good Japanese hotel

This hotel is very useful for English speaking tourists trying to find there way around kyoto. The staff spoke English and gave us many useful tips as first time tourists in this city. This very clean, stylish hotel is centrally located and near all the major trains and bus routes which made for very easy traveling

See the temples, they are all different and interesting

Superb design, kind and helpful staff. Great restaurant food at reasonable prices.

Stayed a Thursday & Friday and would have stayed the Saturday as well but they wanted double the room rate so we checked out and went to The Screen for the Saturday. Still an excellent hotel and we would stay again.

Design hotel with charm but expensive
Japanese minimalist and contemporary design, near the station

Easy access from Kyoto station; the building is not particularly appealing but the design
of the room is sophisticated in a contemporary japanese style.
The hotel is small and the staff at the reception can be overwhelmed but they were friendly
and very helpful and attentive.
Service in general is below the level offered by hotels of the same category and price in Kyoto.

Loved our hotel room, with nice modern japanese decor. The room has a very cute door, comfortable wooden bathtub, huge beds and more tatami bedding to fit about 6 people if needed.

Aside from the warm, welcoming service from arrival - Hotel Kanra is beautifully appointed from the lobby to the floors to the room. One of the best bathrooms we have ever seen in a designer/boutique hotel. Light and spacious. The bedroom and living spaces are also very spacious and well finished. A welcome note and small confectionary in a beautifully presented wooden box was a nice touch. It's these little things that make a stay with Hotel Kanra well worth it! Staff here are genuinely excited about their hotel and ensuring your stay is perfect. Will definitely stay again.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
For visitors to Kyoto - get a day ticket for limitless travel on the buses around the city. Also the nearest subway is Goji for connection to metro stations.

the hotel features contemporary style, very lovely hotel about 2 years old. the price is quite expenseive, i need to pay additional for my 2 children where the bed can comfortly serve up to 4 persons. for travellers by train, down at kyoto station and connect to the subway to gojo station, out at exit 8 (if not mistaken:) ), the hotel is on your right hand side.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
about 1 or 2 blocks to a nearby temple, easy to walk there.
