Every time an Agoda customer checks out of a hotel we send them an email asking them to write a review of their stay. This is the only way reviews can be submitted. Every review must then be approved by our content team before being posted on the Agoda website. Therefore, unlike many other travel sites, ALL Agoda reviews are certified and genuine.

the ryokan is nested in a neighbourhood of traditional building. it can be a challenge to locate at first but once you have been there, you will be able to find your way back from the train station easily. it is about 10 min walk from the closest train station and there are many small restaurants around. the room is a little small for the price but the staff is helpful.

Not exactly walking distance if you have luggage
Amiable service, very clean and new rooms, elevator, nice breakfast

This ryokan is a little bit far from the nearest station (Kyoto Station) if you are dragging your luggage along, but it is close to sightseeing destinations. Grab a cab if you have to, it won't cost more than.
We were very happy with the cleanliness of the rooms. The ryokan felt really new and has a lift, which is great if you have bulky luggage. We stayed in a Japanese tatami room and laid out our own futons every night. The toilets are a little small but it's pretty ok if you're just taking a shower.
The staff range from cordial to amiable, depending on who's on duty. There was an elderly gentleman on night duty who spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful - regrettably, we did not get his name. Overall I would definitely consider staying here again if I'm looking for good value, mid-priced accommodation.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
Cycling is a good way to get around if the weather permits, but not a good idea if you aren't keen on an uphill workout to places like Kiyomizu-dera.

Cute and interesting hotel
6.3
Very intersting Japanese style with Tatami. You have to make your own bed everyday and put them back in the day time. I suspect that they didn't change sheets during your staying, or it's because I stayed only 4 nights. Maybe they are doing it on a weekly basis. Not very easy to find if you do not have GPS. One advantage is the staff can speak English! Overall, it's a very interesting small hotel. And I have to say it's not the smallest room that I stayed during my 10 days' trip in Japan.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
you have to go to nara. it's great!!!

Beauty, simplicity and warm hospitality.
The great experience of both tradition japanese hospitality and western style hospitality without the all the fluff.
9.3
From the moment I checked-in, til the moment I checked out I was warmly greeted, attended to with big smiles and given great advice. This place gives you a great insight into what would be traditional japanese hospitality in a central location. Close to temples, transport and great food.

I was warmly welcomed when I entered the hotel. Was well-orientated by the staff.
Had to make my bed every day. It was a fun experience. However, the place was not very easily accessible. It was quite a distance from the train station.
