the personnel were courteous very helpful and went out of their way to please you. I give a high rating for the hotel service. The room was well-kept, spacious and had comfortable beds. I have no complaint on this and find the room very nice indeed.

no free wifi. for the amount paid, it should have free wifi; only one english channel was available and that was CNN - should have more english channels.

the hotel is centrally located and quite near the JR railway station. it is easily accessible from the rail station. it is a well-appointed hotel and noting the japanese courteousness and their trait of deference, I would say that the hotel staff is tops - from the concierge who was very accommodating, to the front desk personnel who were as efficient and to the porter who provided service at every opportunity like giving directions, suggestions on places to eat and in helping out with the luggage - I have no complaint. The hotel staff knew pretty good english and could communicate well. with respect to the accommodations, the room was comfortable, clean, complete in all accessories and I say, nicely designed. it was spacious for a japanese hotel. the location is the best. it is near a buddhist temple and not too far from the nijo castle and the imperial palace as well as to other historic sites in kyoto. overall, I rate the hotel with a 5 star.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : easily accessible from the railway station and near almost all the must see places in kyoto.

This was agraet hotel. The room was what we expected - clean, comfortable and the hotel was well-situated for the day tour of Old Kyoto and Nara that we took. We were able to be picked up from our hotel and dropped off there. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were able to make ourself understood. They helped with all our enquiries and responded in a very friendly manner to all our requests.

As were most of the hotel rooms in Japan, the room was small but comfortable for 3 people. We did not get the double bed or non-smoker room requested so my husband and I had to sleep in single beds. This was my main complaint.

I would recommend this hotel as it was close to a train station. We were able to be picked up for our day tour and dropped off. Staff were well-trained, efficient and very helpful. it was a positive experience except for the single beds for my husband and I. The cost was excellent and we received value for money spent on the hotel.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : We booked a tour of Old Kyoto and Nara through Viator Tours. It was anh exceptio9nal tour that included a buffet lunch and was great5 value for money. We were picked up and dropped off as this hotel was on the list for that so was a very convenient place to stay.

Beautiful lobby Spacious rooms Wonderful Service

Expensive breakfast, but there is a reasonably priced restaurant right next door.

Located 15 minute walk from the train station or a 5 minute taxi ride. The accommodations were very clean and everything was high class. It was a very comfortable stay. If you are adventurous enough, it is about a 20 minute walk to the main downtown, or you can take a taxi or the bus. We also rented bicycles at the Kyoto Train Station which allowed us to get all around the city and have fun doing so.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : As noted above, renting bicycles is a great way to get around, and you can get them near the Kyoto Train Station.

the comfort and size of room

unpersonnal welcome

The hotel was very comfortable, very quiet and the room was clean. We had a little problem with the reservation because as we didn't specify our room was smoker. We finaly found another room with the reception but more expensive. The area of the hotel is good for person with a mean of transport , around the hotel, there is not much restaurants. this hotel is big and suitable for groups.

Quite central but more than 5 minutes from the railway station. Very obliging staff. Rooms are of good size, clean and reasonably well appointed. Breakfast buffet is good.

Decor could be a little brighter.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel over Christmas 2008 for 3 days. We are frequent travelers although our experience of Japanese hotels is limited. However we found the Tokyu Hotel to be well located, modern in appearance and fittings and with obliging staff who made us feel at home. Although not far from the station and the centre of Kyoto it is advisable for anyone staying more than a couple of days to buy a bus pass for sightseeing. The system is not too difficult to use.

Restaurant Tip : Go for the small restaurants in streets near the hotel. They are fun and offer good value and delicious food. Language problems are easily resolved by pointing to other customers' dishes!

Beautiful and dramatic lobby.

I think that breakfast was priced too high and should have been included.

This is a good hotel with friendly service. I came on a business trip during a very busy time in Kyoto so this hotel was the only one I could get within a reasonable price range. Although it is not on the subway line, it was only a block away.

The hotel is clean, tidy and neat. I especially like the fact that they have already arranged 3 beds before my arrival.

I find the air ventilation stuffy in the room. The window opens only partially (for safety of course) but it does not help in air circulation. It is uncomfortably hot when the heater is on.

FROM THE MOMENT YOU GET IN,THE JAPANESE CHARACTER GREATS YOU WITH A SOOTHING CALM. THE STAFF IS HELPFUL AND ATTENTIVE. THEY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE YOUR STAY A PLEASANT ONE. THE ATTENTION TO DETAILS IS IMPRESSIVE- FROM SERVING THE FOOD IN THE RESTAURANT TO THE AMENITIES IN THE ROOM.

THE ROOM IS A BIT TOO SMALL FOR 2 PEOPLE. THE HOTEL LOCATION IS FAR FROM MOST ATTRACTIONS,AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS HARD TO COME BY.

WE HAVE STAYED IN THE TOKYU HOTEL IN KYOTO FOR SIX NIGHTS IN OCTOBER 2008. WE REQUESTED A LOT OF SERVICES FROM THE GUEST RELATION MANAGER, INCLUDING RESERVATIONS, INFORMATION LOCATING ATTRACTIONS AWAY FROM KYOTO. THEY WERE EXTREAMELY HELPFUL,WROTE LETTERS FOR US, MADE PHONE CALLS AND DIDN'T GIVE UP UNTIL THE GOT SATISFACTORY RESULTS. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE'LL GO BACK TO THIS HOTEL.

Convenient location, public transport available outside front door, friendly helpful staff, great breakfast and dining

We disliked that although we booked a non-smoking room, but there was a distinct smell of cigarette smoke and the hotel corridors smelt particularly bad.

The Tokyu was a fantastic hotel that suited our needs in Kyoto. It was very easy to find and the location was accessible via the efficient Kyoto bus services and within close proximity to the Kyoto Station. The dining especially for a hearty breakfast was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The Hotel amenities were second to none. We would recommend this Hotel to our family and friends.

Shopping Tip : Fantastic shopping just a short bus ride away.

Well located. Very comfortable and spacious rooms and lobbies. Around Y2,000 by cab from Kyoto station. Staff moderately helpful but strict adherence to rules. Could not access room at 12.50. Had to wait until 1 pm.

The hardest beds we ever experienced in Japan.

It was a very comfortable hotel except for the beds which were like concrete. Also very Japanese in that there was no flexibility. Could not access room at 10 to 1 even though it was made up. Had to wait until the advertised time of 1pm. Food good but expensive. Close to Buddhist temple and costume museum which was well worth looking through.

Excellent Value and service, and larger than normal rooms.

15 minute walk to Kyoto Train Station, and expensive restaurant.

We were very impressed with Tokyo Hotel. It was the cheapest place that we stayed, but was the nicest. There was excelent service and very extravigant suroundings. The rooms were larger than most in japan and so was the TV. The staff were very freindly, profesional, helpful and most spoke English. The only downside is that is is about a 15 min walk from the Kyoto train station and the restaurant is pretty expensive.

Restaurant Tip : The Royal Host accross the road is relaxed and a cheap restaurant. Going there for breakfast is very convenient.

Rooms were beautiful (if a bit small), Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful (they gave us a bus map and pass that got us around Kyoto all weekend long).

Rooms a bit small, beds a bit hard, restaurants a bit expensive... but nothing that you wouldn't find anywhere else.

On arrival at the Tokyu Hotel, we were already impressed by the elegance of the hotel: having paid such a low price, we were expecting something dirty and small. But the hotel is simple and attractive, as are the rooms. The location is also great: it is a 10-15 minute walk (or 4 minutes by bus) from Kyoto station, so we were able to get off the shinkansen in the morning, check into our room, and go exploring immediately. The hotel is also close to several temples, including Toji shrine, which is a must-see. We chose not to eat in the restaurant because it was a bit pricey, but everything else about the hotel was user-friendly and efficient. All in all, a great deal for the price.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : ask for a bus map at the desk: it makes getting around infinitely easier, and shows every bus route in the city. Then buy the bus pass for \500 a day and the whole city is within your grasp.

Reasonable price for the room and location. If you are used to walk for a few miles every day, you can walk to Kyoto Station, Nishiki Market Place, Gion, Nishi and Higashi Honganji (temple)and many other places. If you are under budget, there is a family restaurant across the hotel, and it is open almost 24 hours. Everyone at the hotel was very kind, and took time to help us. Room size is bigger for Japanese standards, clean, and organized.

None

I will highly recommend this hotel if you are under budget and if you are looking for a good location (walk or take taxieto get to many places. The hotel garden had a Zen atmosphere and it was very relaxing to sit at the lobby.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Shopping and Eating (Nishiki Market place, underground shopping at Kyoto Station). The best experience was at KIFUNE Shrine, and you can dine on top of the river. It is expensive, but if you can try to go Gion for lunch or dinner with Maiko and Geiko. They will serve sake and dance for you. The best sightseeing places are Nijyojo, Kiyomizu tera, Heiankyo, Kinkakuji, Ryuuanji and Uji (famous for Genji Monogatari). If you can buy an English book, I will highly recommend you to read it - one on the best love story written by a woman in Heian period.
