great location for shopping & resturants easy access to bus or subway - ask concierge for their hotel map - easy to read and understand rooms very comfortable with everthing you would expect from a 4star hotel - for a little extra - go for the twin/double room, bigger than standard double with two beds staff friendly and try hard, at times can be a little too formal, but make a real effort buffet breakfast fantastic - make sure your room deal includes breakfast spa facilities top class with great chill out lounge, however policy is not allow people with tattoos in - which in this day and age could be seen as not keeping up with the times

couldn't fault this hotel.some may say rooms small, but well planned out and got everything you need.

You could not fault this hotel, for the current deal, its very good value and worth considering. would stay there again and recommend it to friends. Great location, great breakfast. Staff that try hard and make a real effort. Spa club worth a visit, approx 1,500 yen, to escape and relax. Rooms got everthing, inc in-house movies, you just need to work out the remote control - if stuck, ask concierge to come up and show you.

Restaurant Tip : starbucks on every corner around the hotel walk across from the hotel and head east - you will find a great accarde with a market feel, great to get lost in for shopping a food. side streets across from the hotel all have fab resturants for food - both japanese and western/european

Spacious for Japan, excellent quality

This met our expectations. It's a nice hotel in kyoto and decent value compared against the other options I was considering (although hard to say for sure as obviously we didn't stay at the other hotels). We didn't eat here. Staff was helpful although sometimes struggled with English, but have recommendations for food and sightseeing. Overall I would definitely recommend it to those wanting to see the sights of Kyoto.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Make use of buses and the subway. We underestimated distances and tired ourselves out walking.

The hotel was very luxurious and in a good central location.

Very westernised, so not the best if you're looking for an authentic experience

We were greeted by very friendly staff who took our bags and helped us to navigate the security systems within the hotel. The hotel is very new and centrally located close to the shopping precint in Kyoto. There are also many shrines and gardens within walking distance to the hotel. Overall it was a very enjoyable stay and great value for money.

Shopping Tip : There's a shopping arcade nearby with a many food and clothing shops.

The location of this hotel is perfect. Close to all forms of transportation, shopping, Starbucks, great restaurants. The restaurants in the hotel were also great. What impressed me the most was the graciousness of the employees. They were so knowledgeable of the entire city and all the best spots to see. Arrangements for airport shuttle was also handled proficiently. Rooms are quiet and so clean. Great decor, comfy beds.!!!!

Shopping Tip : Go right across the road and follow the street to great shopping.

This was our fourth visit to Kyoto, but our first time at the Monterey. It was by far the nicest hotel we stayed in. It is well located and quite elegant. The concierge was very helpful with all the information one needs to tour Kyoto including helping us get tickets to concerts, dances, etc. She even had the latest information on which cherry blossoms were blooming. I highly recommend the Monterey.

location, staff and modern look

No bus stop out front you will walk 2 blocks each day to get to the bus/train

I have stayed at about 6 hotels in Japan, this was my favourite. It cost a little more than I usually pay but it was worth it as Kyoto was the wrap up of our second Japan holiday. Breakfast was good

New hotel, very clean , rooms are Ok for Japan, better to take twin rooms more spacious. Situation is ideal, close to city center, shopping area and in between station and Imperial Palace.

Decoration very kitch it`s up to you ...western breakfast not at the hotel category level. Also considering the price it`s not acceptable to pay to use the only one computer in lobby area.

We recomend this hotel mostly for his situation,in a quite area and in central Kyoto. Staff is very professional, efficient and courteous. May be the decoration can be "too much", looks like a Vegas Casino,we didn`t expect this.

the hotel right in the heart of the city and a good place to start

the rooms are a little small

We spend a night in Kyoto as a stop-over. Therefor was the hotel perfect, it is located right in the heart of the city and it is easy to get around. The only drawback was the room-size, compared to other hotels is was the smallest room we have had during our japan trip. A good thing was the breakfast, we had a piece of everything and my girlfriend loved it - especially the Japanese one.

Comfortable beds, roomy rooms, and friendly staff. It was in a great location to travel the city on the easy to use bus system. Breakfast was included and delicious.

They said they don't give receipts. Probably due to us booking through Agoda.

We had a great stay at the Hotel Monterey. Comfortable beds, roomy rooms, and friendly staff. We were very pleased with the decor and size of the rooms. Being in Japan we were a little concerned that we'd be cramped. It was in a great location to travel the city on the easy to use bus system. We were also able to walk there from the nearest subway stop after taking the train in from Osaka. Breakfast was included and delicious. They held our bags when we arrived early and when we checked out so we could maximize our sightseeing.

Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : You can purchase a one or two day bus/subway pass from the hotel front desk.

This is a very special hotel - not your usual run of the mill, American chain of hotels, but this Japanese hotel has a special ambience and style - all of the highest quality.

The Monterey Hotel in Kyoto is a very special hotel. It is magnificently designed and the rooms are very large (compared to the other hotels I have been in in Japan) and immensly comfortable. The bathroom, which is important to me, is large and full of the latest gigs. Breakfast is included here, which makes it very comfortable - no need to look for a Starbucks! There is a nice variety of foods, Japanese and Western breakfast, with everything one really needs. The location is also very good, 5 minute walk from the nearest JR line. The staff is very friendly (as everywhere in Japan) and there is even a Cathedral where weddings take place.'The Library' is a lovely little restaurant which serves super afternoon tea at reasonable prices. The owner of the hotel has his collection of paintings up on the walls and these include a couple of original Degas and Monet! There is one man whose job is to guard these paintings 24 hrs a day!

Customer Service and Information, Location, Design

The room was small, but not more so than your average Japanese hotel

We found our stay enjoyable. The staff were helpful when we asked directions and for advice about boat trips. There were also nice touches such as a free paper in the morning. The decoration was nice, especially the lobby. We did not eat at the restaurant, but we did have breakfast and found there was plenty of food that we liked to choose from- Both Japanese and Western. Overall I would stay there again as it was centrally located and near a station.

Close to Ginza mainstreet

The hotelroom is small, but it's normal in Tokyo

A good hotel for a reasonable price. The hotel is close to Ginza mainstreet. Close to a subway station. From Tokyo station is it better to take a taxi, because there is not a direct subway line to the hotel. Close to hotel the is a Starbuck look a like where you can have a good breakfast.

Restaurant Tip : Breakfast at a coffee-shop at 100 meters.

great breakfast buffet spread. very comfortable room.

small room.

You'll be shocked at the level of techiness this hotel indulges in. It impresses on so many counts. From the ever helpful concierge, to the ultra chic dining interiors, to the very comfortable twin beds. You'll never be caught short on things to marvel at the first time u step into this hotel and venture around it. It isn't too far away from Kyoto Station and an easy cab ride away from the city centre and Kyoto's many temples.

Overall we were very very impressed with this new property. Staff and facility far exceeded our expectations.

Restaurant Tip : We decided one night we just wanted to pick-up some take-away and bring back to the room and "chill". We found nearby the basement Food Court at Daimaru Dept Store. Truly an amazing place; reminds us of Harrod's in London. We bought the freshest sushi, a bottle of Chardonnay, and desserts to die for. All this in our spacious room and fresh hotel pajamas made for a fantastic respite from a hard day of touring temples.
