Mystays Shijo Hotel, Kyoto

I had a beautiful clean large room on a non-smoking floor with personal AC/heating controls and a view over the city from the 12th floor. The staff could not have been more helpful. When I arrived I had left my reading glasses in Shizuoka and the desk clerk personally took me to a "99 Shop" (like a dollar store") about 100 metres away so I could buy replacement glasses. There was a computer system available in a corridor off the main lobby. Combs, toothbrushes, razors, etc were all available in the reception area. I did not try the restaurant but it looked very nice. It is about 30 minutes walking distance to the Nijo Castle and maybe 45 mins to the Gion (Geisha) district). Five minutes walk from Shijo station/ Karasuma stations. At Karasuma you can get a Hankyu train to Osaka without going into Kyoto central and it is cheaper (about 390 yen vs 745 by Subway and JR trains. I highly recommend this hotel.

Nice and pleasant hotel with clean and comfortable rooms. However, rooms are small and rather cramped, so there is no way you can open up your luggage flat on the floor. Walking distance from nearest station can be considerable if you have lots of luggage. However, it is not difficult to locate. Staff are polite and have good command of English.

Very nice place, front staff was very helpful room ha a great chair to relax in, often missing from Japanese hotel rooms. No English language channels on TV.
