when you enter very clean so it's a very good impression..hotel close to station and convient to stores and eateries..rooms are very neat and set up in a comfortable setting even if they squeezed another bed for it it was not cramped...amenities are of good choice
not much to dislike...only elevators are small and slow..did not like the buffet for breakfast
i would like to stay at this hotel again when i go to kyoto. access to stations is easy and only a short walk. the "porta" is almost under the hotel so shopping is very easy and so many places to eat. hotel staff is very helpful and understands english so you are able to get good answers.they are super polite too
Restaurant Tip : so many to choose from the porta food is good and reasonable

Location was great. Directly across the road from the central bus and train station. As a result, we were quickly able to drop our bags off before heading out to explore. Also, due having the train station across the road, it was easy to get to any sights around Kyoto.
Like most of Japan, the staff on the front had a very limited grasp of English. Luckily one person was able to speak English, but if she was not there it would have been very difficult to ask questions!
Overall I was very happy with the hotel. The location is a real bonus, as it was easy to arrive at the hotel, and leave, by simply crossing the road to the central train station. The rooms were quiet and the staff were great. The only issue was the limited ability to speak English. Luckily a couple of people could, but when they were not behind the desk it was very difficult. Also, rooms were very small, but all rooms are in Japan!
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : There is not a lot to do around the hotel. Make sure you get a subway map when you arrive, as you will need it to navigate your way around Kyoto.

It's right opposite Kyotoeki-mae (kyoto station)
No ramp to wheel suitcases up - Have to carry up 6 steps.
Staff make out that you must take an upgrade for your room when none is necessary.
Waited for help at the information desk and was ignored... no acknowledgement whatsoever.
Right from when we had to carry our bags up the steps to get into the hotel we had that feeling that we were about to stay at the worst hotel of our trip. Unfortunately that turned out to be true.
The staff seemed to insist that we needed to take an upgrade to get our requested non-smoking room. Only after speaking with the supervisor there did we get our requested room without extra charge. We sort help from the information desk about attractions but were totally ignored. We were not even acknowledged. Fortunately reception was a little more helpful and set us on our way.
The rooms certainly didnt indicate that the New Hankyu was anywhere near new. There were stains on the wall from spillages and the amount of dust next to the beds was really atrocious. The pillows were absolute neck breakers and we couldnt wait to leave the hotel.
The pluses for the hotel are all about it's location right across the road from Kyoto Station where you can not only get the trains but every bus you need as well. It's also right above the Porta shopping arcade where there are many good restaurants to be found. There is also good coffee across the road at caffe veloce, better than starbucks and a good deal cheaper! And there is a Lawson's next door to that so you can pick up any daily neccesities.
Loved Kyoto, Loved the position of the hotel, but did not like the hotel one little bit....sorry guys!
Restaurant Tip : Caffe Veloce for decent espresso across the street from the hotel.
If you have a JR pass you can take a train on the JR line to Enmachi then take a bus to get to Kinkakuji....much quicker!

Hotel restaurants, a bit expensive
The Shin Hankyu is located just in Front of Tokyo station, what makes it ideal for Japan traveling (train). You can take shinkansen to Tokyo, Osaka, Kysuhu. Great. Good conections also to Nara. The hotel is fair combination of quality and price. I would recommend it.Reserve ahead in Japan, as many times, the hotels are full.
