Proximity to the Kyoto station, very friendly and helpful staff (including front desk/restaurant/doorman/porters), good-sized rooms, nice restaurants
The bed was a little too hard for my liking, but my wife thought hers was OK.
We found the New Miyako on-line so you never know exactly what you will find. From the time we entered the foyer and checked in, there was a clean, friendly, yet professional feeling about the hotel. We stayed for three nights and enjoyed three very nice breakfasts in the front restaurant. The men in charge there made us feel welcome. My wife was particularly taken by the doormen in their long black coats. They were very friendly.
Travel tip : You will find some excellent restaurants across the road in the shopping mall. Also, make sure you go to Nara for a day at least.

Conveniently located across from Kyoto station
The New Miyako Hotel at Kyoto is a good hotel for tourists, it is very conveniently located across from the Kyoto train station - making it very easy to catch trains for side trips to Osaka, Nara or Himeji.
The staff are very attentive and helpful.
The rooms are well maintained - we had three in our room (2 single beds and 1 rollaway) and there was enough room for us all.
We did not use the hotels restaurants so can't comment on the quality.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Make sure you check out the outdoor escalators at Isetan at Kyoto station - a very interesting layout!
