WE HAVE STAYED IN THE TOKYU HOTEL IN KYOTO FOR SIX NIGHTS IN OCTOBER 2008.
WE REQUESTED A LOT OF SERVICES FROM THE GUEST RELATION MANAGER, INCLUDING RESERVATIONS, INFORMATION LOCATING ATTRACTIONS AWAY FROM KYOTO. THEY WERE EXTREAMELY HELPFUL,WROTE LETTERS FOR US, MADE PHONE CALLS AND DIDN'T GIVE UP UNTIL THE GOT SATISFACTORY RESULTS.
THIS IS ONLY ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE'LL GO BACK TO THIS HOTEL.
FROM THE MOMENT YOU GET IN,THE JAPANESE CHARACTER GREATS YOU WITH A SOOTHING CALM.
THE STAFF IS HELPFUL AND ATTENTIVE. THEY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO MAKE YOUR STAY A PLEASANT ONE.
THE ATTENTION TO DETAILS IS IMPRESSIVE- FROM SERVING THE FOOD IN THE RESTAURANT TO THE AMENITIES IN THE ROOM.
THE ROOM IS A BIT TOO SMALL FOR 2 PEOPLE.
THE HOTEL LOCATION IS FAR FROM MOST ATTRACTIONS,AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS HARD TO COME BY.

It was a very comfortable hotel except for the beds which were like concrete. Also very Japanese in that there was no flexibility. Could not access room at 10 to 1 even though it was made up. Had to wait until the advertised time of 1pm. Food good but expensive. Close to Buddhist temple and costume museum which was well worth looking through.
Well located. Very comfortable and spacious rooms and lobbies. Around Y2,000 by cab from Kyoto station. Staff moderately helpful but strict adherence to rules. Could not access room at 12.50. Had to wait until 1 pm.
The hardest beds we ever experienced in Japan.
Tokyu Hotel was the best hotel of our trip

We were very impressed with Tokyo Hotel. It was the cheapest place that we stayed, but was the nicest. There was excelent service and very extravigant suroundings. The rooms were larger than most in japan and so was the TV. The staff were very freindly, profesional, helpful and most spoke English. The only downside is that is is about a 15 min walk from the Kyoto train station and the restaurant is pretty expensive.
Excellent Value and service, and larger than normal rooms.
15 minute walk to Kyoto Train Station, and expensive restaurant.
- Restaurant Tip : The Royal Host accross the road is relaxed and a cheap restaurant. Going there for breakfast is very convenient.

On arrival at the Tokyu Hotel, we were already impressed by the elegance of the hotel: having paid such a low price, we were expecting something dirty and small. But the hotel is simple and attractive, as are the rooms. The location is also great: it is a 10-15 minute walk (or 4 minutes by bus) from Kyoto station, so we were able to get off the shinkansen in the morning, check into our room, and go exploring immediately. The hotel is also close to several temples, including Toji shrine, which is a must-see. We chose not to eat in the restaurant because it was a bit pricey, but everything else about the hotel was user-friendly and efficient. All in all, a great deal for the price.
Rooms were beautiful (if a bit small), Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful (they gave us a bus map and pass that got us around Kyoto all weekend long).
Rooms a bit small, beds a bit hard, restaurants a bit expensive... but nothing that you wouldn't find anywhere else.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : ask for a bus map at the desk: it makes getting around infinitely easier, and shows every bus route in the city. Then buy the bus pass for \500 a day and the whole city is within your grasp.
Excellent Hotel for under budget and good health

I will highly recommend this hotel if you are under budget and if you are looking for a good location (walk or take taxieto get to many places. The hotel garden had a Zen atmosphere and it was very relaxing to sit at the lobby.
Reasonable price for the room and location.
If you are used to walk for a few miles every day,
you can walk to Kyoto Station, Nishiki Market Place, Gion, Nishi and Higashi Honganji (temple)and many other places. If you are under budget, there is a family restaurant across the hotel, and it is open almost 24 hours. Everyone at the hotel was very kind, and took time to help us.
Room size is bigger for Japanese standards, clean, and organized.
None
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : Shopping and Eating (Nishiki Market place, underground shopping at Kyoto Station).
The best experience was at KIFUNE Shrine, and you can dine on top of the river. It is expensive, but if you can try to go Gion for lunch or dinner with Maiko and Geiko. They will serve sake and dance for you. The best sightseeing places are Nijyojo, Kiyomizu tera, Heiankyo, Kinkakuji, Ryuuanji and Uji (famous for Genji Monogatari). If you can buy an English book, I will highly recommend you to read it - one on the best love story written by a woman in Heian period.

Overall very nice hotel, nicer than we expected for the price. The location was rather inconvenient, but with the bus pass and bike rental, we could easily see the sites from the hotel.
Excellent room; all extras paid

The hotel was in a wonderful location, very near to historical sights, and very accessible to public transportation, very well centralized. The room was nicely decorated and very adequate for our needs, and even gave us enough room, which is somewhat unusual for Japanese rooms! We went during cherry blossom season, and the hotel had provided a lot of information on when peak blooming times were, and also great tour information. I highly recommend this hotel!
Friendly helpful staff, great breakfast, very nice hotel.

The best hotel we stayed on our Japan trip. Although a little out of the way of high traffic areas, but located next to a beautiful shrine, I would stay here again because the staff were so helpful. The rooms were great.
- Sightseeing/Attractions Tip : The major attractions were of a walkable distance, so the location wasn't too much of an issue. For the price you pay, this hotel was a great find.
