The room was comfortable. Had a good sleep. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is near Matsumoto Castle. But this also means that it is quite a distance from the train station. The food in the hotel restaurant looks good though I didn't managed to try it, so I won't comment on that. There is a popular soba restaurant near the hotel.

The staff on 1st day were amazing. The lady at front desk told us abt Castle light up. When we went out for dinner another lady staff who happened to be by the door noticed the 1st drops of rain. She noticed my outfit & ran in to get me a matching umbrella instead of the standard transparent ones they have at the door. Such is her attention to detail. Our only grouse is the short flight of stairs in front making carrying luggage a challenge.

This hotel is good value for the price. We requested a room higher up and they put us on the top floor. Great views of Matsumoto - including the Alps and the castle. Within 15 min. walk to the train. Matsumoto has been very clearly mapped out with maps at most street intersections for the tourists (in Japanese and English), you will need the maps to help you get there as the streets are small and windy. Look out for the distinctive white ten storey building too. Fridenly and helpful staff, as a free onsen underneath the hotel. Room of a fairly good size, heated toilet.

A little funky western/japanese style but in authentic non upscale Japanese neighborhood with great small restaurants for locals nearby. A more suthentic experience can be had.

we booked this at the last minute and everything went well. despite only having a smoking room available (we wanted. non-smoking) the room did not have that taint many rooms have, so well done.
the location is great, just near the castle and still within walking distance of the jr station.

this hotel was a nice surprise...bigest hotel room i have ever had in japan...and at a very reasonable price. the hotel is an easy flay walk from matsumoto train station...even with luggage...and is only one street away from the fantastic matsumoto castle. and an added bonus is the hotel has a steambath "onsen"...grea relaxing after a all day walking as a tousist (but this facility is for men only). from my hotel room i could even see the snow-capped mountains of the japan alps !
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
A great day trip out of Matsumoto is to go to "Kamikochi" in the Japan Alps. It is like Yosemite National Park in California. And so easy to get to...every 30mins a train/bus combination leaves Matsumoto Train Station...trip is 2 hours each way thru great scenery...then great walking trails
