A Japanese Experience
It really feels like a traditional home

My hosts were lovely and picked me up from the train station. I always felt welcome and they went out of their way to help me. They hardly spoke any english but tried to understand me and help me when I asked. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting a traditional experience.

Economical hotel and clean room

this is one of the hotel with low price. the service is ok. it is not recommended for solo traveller as it is not so organize. we were a group of 4 and book 2 rooms. one of the room we got is kind of further away from the lobby and toilet and is hiding at the corner. another room is big enough to accomodate 4 of us and is closer to lobby, toilet and bathroom so we requested to have our 2 futons moved to this big room.
the service is good, they also have pick-up service from-to the station. we went there in december, the room is very cold, seemed like they did not have the heater on. but over all is ok.

Big rooms, friendly service but a bit lonesome

A good place to stay, if you just want to be yourself and relax. If you are travelling alone and want some company, I wouldn't recommend it. I felt a bit lonely even though I do speak Japanese.

Overall happy with this as a place to stay cheaply in Matsumoto - good value for Japan. It was a little quirky, ie had to hit a gong to attract staff attention, our room looked like it might have been a sitting room on days when the place is less full and could see reception when cleaning your teeth. But it was clean and conveniently located. Staff also accomodated our (advance)request for an extra futon.

It is a bit out of town, too far to walk with luggage, but the a lady at the train station's Info Centre rang the ryokan & requested a pickup. You need to speak Japanese or point to words in a Japanese dictionary to communicate, that is why the lady in the info centre ringing on our behalf was so wonderful. Being delivered from the train station to the ryokan was wonderful too & back again the next day (make sure you book in a time the night before). We walked into the town without luggage without problems. The room was very big - we fitted 4 people in a row on futons. The bathroom is very Japanese with pre washing & then you can hop in their steaming bathtub - onsen style of bathroom, except that you reserve the room to yourself with a sign on the door. This means you might have to wait for it, but it is good when you have it to yourself. It was a great experience.
Sightseeing/Attractions Tip:
The Goodwill guides at Matsumoto Castle are wonderful. Our guide really told us a lot & was a chance to know a local a bit more. It made our trip so much more fun.

Travel tip:
Call them when you get there, so they can go and pick you up

ac and wlan, only very litte english spoken. it's about 12 min from matsumoto station, go south , over the rail to your right, turn left go ahead cross the little river, there you are.
