a lot of misscommunication my friends thought the owner was very rude but this is a 1/12 star hotel so for me after the language barrier got sorted i got on quite well with the owners. there is no luxury in this lodge so dont expect five star when you are only paying for 1. the food was enough and the beds are super warm. i would stay again but only if it was finacially necessary.
Travel tip:
There are plenty of restaurants in Hukuba so walk down the road a bit and find lots to eat of different varieties

Great Location but Owner was alittle overbearing

I had an issue with the onsen and hot water downstairs being turned on after 5pm. After a full days boarding getting home at 3:30-4 you just want to jump in and have a hot tub and get cleaned up. The owner tended to be a little bit overruling and it felt like you were boarding rather than staying in a hotel/lodge
Restaurant Tip:
Mama Chan just 50m down the road dose a great feed and she is a lovely women with a beautiful smile.........

Comfortable family-run lodge near gondola

Very basic but everything you need is there.
The location is fantastic for Happo One, being located literally a 50m downhill walk to the gondola
The family that runs it were very friendly and communication was generally ok despite them not speaking much English
In their defence, they did try which was appreciated as to be fair as the visitor to Japan the onus should have been on me to learn some Japanese (Thankfully I did)
The lodge style means that you are sure to meet and get to know fellow stayers in the communal areas which was a nice bonus to staying in a regular hotel
All in all, I had a very comfortable stay
Hotel Feature Tip:
The shared bathrooms are perfectly usable but if possible, try and get an en-suite. Its 1000 yen / night extra and well worth it
